22. Tenderness

"Are you alright? Do you need anything?"

"Your feathers are a bit red."

"Join the Single Men Club!"

"Jimin, what the fu—"

"I can whip up a delicious meal for you, if you would like me to. Do you prefer pork or fish?"

Jungkook blinked, his head spinning at the multiple voices around him. His vision was blurry, so he only saw dark silhouettes around him. He rubbed his aching shoulder, rolling them and stretching his wings, flinching when his right wing stung, as if a bolt of electricity shot through it. He yelped in pain, arching his back. Everyone around him ducked when his wing spazzed out of instinct.

"Whoa there, don't move too much," Jin placed a hand on Jungkook's chest, the latter calming down and flapping his wing to rest when he recognized the voice. "Even though I healed your wing, you should let it rest for a while. I just sped up the process of healing but there's still a small fracture."

Jungkook looked around the room, realizing that he was sitting on a bed, in one of the guest bedrooms of Jin's beach vacation house. The room's wallpaper was a cream color, fading into a dark brown shade as it reached the blue-carpeted floor. The lighting was dim and because he owned the light gem, this made him feel uncomfortable.

When the tip of his left wing brushed against something, Jungkook looked up and saw a framed picture hanging on the wall. After seeing the young boy and couple, he didn't need to read anybody's mind to figure out that it was Jin and his parents.

Seeing the photo suddenly made Jungkook think of his own father, who was way back in Vrede, ruling in the war against Hel. He sighed, recalling all the years he spent with his father and mother, bless her soul. If only there was another option, then he would have stayed with his parents instead.

...But still, Jungkook knew there was a reason he was selected to keep the light gem and was sent to Earth. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have met you, Emily or the other wonders. Most importantly, Taehyung would have still remained as a memory hidden at the back of his mind.

Jungkook then wondered if telling all of you about his identity as the prince of Hemel would affect the way they look at him. It probably will, he told himself. Some of them were already doubtful towards him because of his wings and he definitely didn't want to add fuel to the fire.

But that person? Jungkook was frustrated because it was the first time he had encountered such a scenario. This person's mind was blocked, cloaked in a protective veil, preventing him from gaining access to this person's thoughts.

"Sorry about my attitude, Jungkook," Everyone turned towards Namjoon, who was scratching his cheek and was awkwardly standing at the corner of the room. Jungkook was still processing the fact that he was there. "Because of my hesitation, you and Sky were gravely injured."

"Don't blame yourself, Namjoon. You're with us now and that's what matters the most," You were standing across the bed, arms crossed over your chest. Yoongi was next to you — a bit too close for Jungkook's taste — with a hand tightly gripping your waist. Jungkook raised an eyebrow at the sight, knowing that Yoongi didn't have any guts to even touch you.

Then, Jungkook read Yoongi's mind, biting the inside of his cheek when he realized why.

"Oh God," Jungkook groaned, placing a hand on his forehead. "Yoongi, I didn't know you were capable of such unholy thoughts."

"And the mind reader shatters the tension," Jimin snickered while everyone bursted into laughter, making both you and Yoongi blush hard.

"Anyways," Jin was still chuckling when he checked his wristwatch. "It's almost time for dinner. Like I asked, Jungkook, do you prefer pork or fish?"

Jungkook leaned on the headrest of the bed, tucking his wings behind his back, and tapped his chin while he thought of his answer. He chuckled at Jimin's thoughts of how cool it was to have your very own pair of wings before he replied with: "Anything will do, really."

Jin nodded, turning around to exit the room, but was stopped when Emily grabbed his arm. "I'll help you out."

There was a silence as Emily and Jin spoke to each other through eye contact. Everyone's eyes were following them like hawks until the door slammed, the two of them out of their sight.

Since you told Jungkook about how Emily sucked when it came to cooking or anything related to the kitchen, he was confused by her decision and it was obvious that you were as well. Huh, something must be brewing between Jin and Emily, then.

"Well," Jimin clasped his hands together, a cheeky smile on his face. "About the single men club—"

"Jimin, please shut up."

Jungkook chuckled at Yoongi's words, then he heard footsteps coming towards him. You were standing next to the bed, originally where Jin was, while twirling some strands of your silver hair in your fingers.

"You didn't need to protect me like that, you know," You bit your bottom lip, Jungkook's left wing flailing slightly at the action. "I'm the guardian, it's my job to protect you and... I'm sorry. You're in this state because of me. If only I could protect myself—"

"Don't degrade yourself like that, Sky," Jungkook smiled, showing off his big bunny teeth. Since he was in too much pain to move, he used his wing to tickle your cheek with his feathers, making you giggle at the contact. Yoongi was staring like a hawk. "I protected you because you're my friend. Besides, I doubt that you could even stand right now if I hadn't shielded you with my wings."

You puffed your cheeks and Jungkook would have called you cute, if Yoongi wasn't glaring at him to the point that it could eat him up. "Thanks."

-

You inhaled, smiling as you savored the delicious scent of the meals on the table. While Jin cooked, you decided to take a night shower, so you were rubbing your wet hair with a towel when you entered the dining room.

"I can't believe you accepted Yoongi right then and there," K spoke as you sat down next to Emily, staring at the fried fish and omelet with wide eyes. "In my opinion, you should have given him some time before you truly decided."

For a while, you just looked around, observing everyone in the kitchen. Namjoon was noisily chewing on a spicy chicken wing, nearly crying while he complained about the prison's food. Jimin was staring at Jungkook with wide, child-like eyes, showering the angel with praises and questions regarding his wings. Jin was walking around with a pink apron, carrying a tray of varieties of food, Emily tailing behind him with a glass pitcher of water, brown hair tied into a bun. You were still confused at why Emily had decided to help Jin and wondered how many glasses she broke in the process.

"—so the last wonder is a man named Hoseok?," You heard Namjoon speak with a mouth full of chicken wings after overhearing Jungkook and Jimin's conversation, which somehow went from wings to Hoseok.

"Yeah, he lives in Gwangju with his girlfriend. He owns the remaining air gem," Jin replied as he passed by with a bowl of strawberries, disappearing in the kitchen within a few minutes.

Namjoon chewed for a while before swallowing loudly, specks of chili paste on his lips. "Do you think he knows? About the gem and... all this?"

"Probably not," Jimin shrugged while pouring himself a glass of orange juice and chugging it down with one gulp. He unintentionally slammed the glass on the table when he set it down, wiping his mouth with his sleeve. "Among the six of us so far, only Jungkook and Taehyung knew about their powers."

Namjoon sucked on a chicken bone for a good five seconds before he replied with: "Taehyung?"

"Right, you haven't met him," Jungkook licked his lips, poking the steak on his plate with a ceramic fork. "Taehyung bears the darkness gem and is... a good friend of mine. He was with us when we found Jimin but he had to leave for, let's say, personal reasons."

Personal reasons? Somehow, even though it was Jungkook, you didn't buy it. Even with your short time knowing Taehyung, you knew that something like personal reasons isn't why he needed to leave so badly. As you studied your fried egg, you started to wonder where he was doing at this very moment, if he was doing fine or eating enough... Strangely, because he was also a wonder and you were literally his guardian, you were extremely about him.

"Sky...," You heard K whisper, and you were no longer shocked because you were used to her voice. "I would just like to remind you, sometimes there are others who know you more than yourself. Also, please do not merely be in love with the idea of love. If you do not mind, what do you see in Yoongi?"

You couldn't really understand what K was trying to say and there was definitely something between the lines of her reminders. While you thought of it, Jin and Emily appeared with even more food.

"I can't believe you broke a whole tea set when I merely asked you to fetch me a towel," Jin chuckled at a blushing Emily while placing a bowl of fried rice on the table, answering your question immediately. "Do not fret, there is a lot more where that came from."

You sighed longingly and cupped your chin with your hand, watching everyone with a smile. Although you still had to find and convince Hoseok to join the team, you felt like the family was nearly complete, even though it only had been about two months since you met K.

"Come on, K. Yoongi is protective, a really sweet guy and is very considerate. Is there really anything more that I can ask for?," You grinned as people started to take their seats one by one. The seat next to you was empty and judging by everyone's expressions, they had all reserved it for Yoongi.

"You can ask for this, babe," As if on cue, Yoongi wrapped his arms around you from behind and kissed your cheek. You blushed at the contact, lacing your fingers together, everyone on the table cringing and curling their fingers (in Jungkook's case, he curled his wings). You were still taken aback at how Yoongi had suddenly become so touchy but you were glad that he was finally being open.

"Oh God, not the PDA!," Jimin shrieked and slid off his seat. You stared as you heard a loud thump and you can only assume that he was on the floor.

Yoongi sat next to you with a chuckle, Jin setting the final plate of food on the table before claiming the seat across you. "Wow, Yoongi, you're like a different person."

"Thank Sky for that," You turned towards Yoongi, who wrapped an arm around your shoulders and nuzzled his face on your neck, your hair tickling his cheeks. Blushing once again, you bit your lip to prevent yourself from squealing. Since you were the kind of girl who was satisfied with physical touch, you absolutely loved how he was treating you.

Still, it was slightly strange since you weren't officially Yoongi's girlfriend... yet.

"Can we eat before I throw up yesterday's lunch?," Jimin groaned as he got up from the floor and sat down on the chair harshly, making his ass ache. Everyone laughed at the scene.

"Time to eat!"

Hoseok yawned loudly, stretching his arms and releasing a groan. He took off his square-rimmed glasses, staring at the computer screen while running a hand through his chestnut brown hair. His eyes rapidly scanned the screen back and forth, mentally computing the ticket prices. This took no effort for someone like him, who was the top of his class and was an expert when it came to anything high-tech.

Hoseok still remembered the first day he met Jia, his girlfriend of three years. He had been working in his mother's bakery (before he entered the college of computer science) and Jia was a regular customer, buying the same flavored cupcakes once a week. He always looked forward to the day of the week when she would come and after finally mustering up his courage and asking her out, here he was now, the proud boyfriend of the most wonderful and pure-hearted girl in all of Korea.

"Hey, don't stress yourself out, Hobi," Jia placed a cup of steaming hot coffee on the table and wrapped her arms around Hoseok, who hummed at the contact. "You don't have to be so serious about planning our anniversary celebration. Something as simple as dinner with you is enough to satisfy me."

Hoseok chuckled and took a sip of his coffee — freshly brewed, no creamer, just sugar — just the way he liked it. He smiled, loving how Jia knew exactly how to please him, even with the simplest of ways. He had to give back to her somehow and the vacation he was planning was the perfect way to do it. "Jia, a sweet and beautiful girl like you deserves the world. I'm going to plan out the best vacation you can't even imagine, just for you."

Jia giggled and tilted Hoseok's head upwards to plant a soft yet love-filled kiss on his lips. Instead of breaking the kiss, Hoseok pulled Jia's nape and started to kiss her passionately. The two released after a few minutes. "You're so sweet, Hobi."

"Only for you," Hobi smiled brightly before facing the computer screen once more, his expression shifting drastically. Jia massaged his shoulders as he continued to compute in his mind. "Hey, Jia, do you prefer Seoul or Jeju island?"

Jia smacked her lips together, resting her chin on Hoseok's head and humming as she thought of her answer. After a few minutes of Hoseok typing while secretly sniffing her apple-scented hair, she finally replied with: "If I'll be honest, I'd like to come visit Seoul. I've never been there in my life."

Hoseok smirked and pressed on the most expensive ticket on the list, making Jia gasp a bit in shock. He whispered as he filled out his credit card information. "Seoul it is, then."
