19. Reflection

"So, do you guys remember the plan? Say something if you do."

You tapped your walkie-talkie, flinching a bit when it buzzed at the same time Jimin's voice rang through it. Adjusting the cap which was concealing your silver hair, you looked up and stared at the signboard, which was rusty and hanging by the hinges. Standing in front of a federal prison disguised as a college student made you feel distraught, but you had to do it in order to gain access to Namjoon. Since none of you are related to him, there was no other way to do it.

"Yeah, we do," Jungkook peered over your shoulder and spoke to the walkie-talkie, which you were both sharing since Jin didn't have enough (only God knows why Jin had multiple walkie-talkies stacked away in his storage room). Changing out of his bathrobe, he was now wearing a brown leather jacket over a plain white tee, ripped blue jeans and a red beanie on his blonde hair.

"I definitely do," Emily, who was paired with Jimin and was hiding behind the building, laughed through the walkie-talkie.

"I obviously do," Jin huffed and for some reason, he sounded like he was pissed. You chuckled, knowing exactly why he was in a bad mood. According to Jungkook, while they were grouping together, he had wanted to paired up with Emily but Jimin volunteered to stay with her instead. In other words, Jin didn't want to be with Yoongi.

"I don't," Yoongi's voice rang a few seconds later, his voice flat and dripping with boredom. A few groans were heard from the rest. "What? I'm a forgetful person."

"Fine," Jimin groaned loudly. There was a shuffle and a soft crumple, which you could just assume was the written plan being pulled out of his pocket. You could hear Emily conversing with him but she was too far away from Jimin's walkie-talkie for you to make out her words. "Sky and Jungkook are disguised as college students who will attempt to interview Namjoon for a fake study. If they don't agree, that's when you come in, Yoongi."

"Your job is to trigger the fire alarm in the prison to evacuate everyone in the building, including the guards, leaving behind Sky, Jungkook and Namjoon. But... it depends. We'll adjust the plan depending on the situation," Jin's voice was gradually getting louder and thicker in accent, which was one thing you noticed about him whenever he was in a sour mood. "Before you ask me why I'm with you, Yoongi, it's to make sure that you don't do any bullshi—"

"And," Emily cut Jin off before he could finish swearing. Jin huffed once more. "As soon as Sky and Jungkook enter, Jimin here is going to shut down the CCTV cameras in Namjoon's cell. Then, boom! Literally. That's when they break him out. I'm with Jimin because I need to assist his... electrical needs."

You heard both Jimin and Emily burst into laughter after the joke and you suddenly imagined Jin's tomato red face with smoke coming out of his ears, making you smile because of how funny that would look in reality.

There was a silence as the voices died out and there was only dead air present. You took this as an opportunity to think everything through — honestly, you were still in shock after finding out about Emily's true identity, which made you think if you were the only one who actually wasn't aware of who you really were. Among the billions of people in the world, why were you chosen to be the guardian of the seven wonders? You just couldn't understand...

"It's because your special," Although bland and emotionless, K's voice actually comforted you. "It is not because I am in your mind but it is a definite fact. Sky, you are no ordinary girl."

K's words made you chuckle and you covered your face with the sleeve of your jacket to hide your reddening cheeks. Strangely, you found it hilarious that you were slandered before for being different but now, you realized that you weren't different — you were unique, designed to save the world alongside Emily and the seven wonders.

Feeling two eyeballs boring stares into your skull, you turned around and saw Jungkook staring at you with big eyes and pursed lips. This shocked you, especially since his face was so close to yours. You tilted your head a bit, confused at why he was giving you such an intense stare. But, based on his expression, you could tell that he was thinking deeply or even... doubting you. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Jungkook blinked, his big eyes widening even more, if possible, when he realized that he had been staring at you the whole time. He immediately stepped backwards and looked away while puffing both of his cheeks. "Sorry, I was thinking about something."

You raised an eyebrow but before you could question Jungkook, Yoongi's deep voice rumbled through the walkie-talkie. "Jungkook."

It took you both a full minute to realize what Yoongi had just said. Jungkook hastily took a step forward, this time putting a bit of distance between you and himself. He glanced at you in confusion before taking the walkie-talkie. "Yeah?"

The static made Yoongi's words sound a bit fuzzy but you were still able to make them out. His voice was stinging, full of venom and seriousness. "If you fail to protect Sky, I'll make sure to burn the feathers of your wings before ripping them off your back."

Yoongi's protectiveness over you made you blush slightly, your cheeks turning cherry red. You didn't know why Yoongi was acting this way, especially since the two of you have known each other for barely a month. You were weirded out, yes, but at the same time you were confused.

Jungkook just chuckled, as if he had already expected Yoongi to say such odd things. "Yeah, yeah. Calm down Romeo, I'll make sure to return Juliet to you in one piece."

"Yah—"

Yoongi's words were cut off after Jungkook turned off the walkie-talkie, pocketing it before yawning loudly. He turned around with a smug expression and caught your clueless look and hanging jaw. "Well, now look who's staring."

"Why would Yoongi say that...?," You spoke in a daze, stroking your chin in confusion.

"Sky, please tell me that you are trying to be humorous," K released an exasperated sigh, making you even more confused than you already were. "...I am not at all surprised."

"Wait, what? You seriously still don't get it?!," Jungkook raised both of his arms in the air, eyes widened in disbelief. You slowly shook your head at him, making him face-palm and pinch his nose-bridge. "I— You know what? I won't even bother, I'll let Yoongi explain himself. That is, if he ever grows the balls to. Come on, let's get in and break out Namjoon."

-

Contrary to your expectations, the air inside the prison house was chill and crisp, even with the single ceiling fan and closed windows, and it hit you as soon as you pushed the glass doors opened. You released a breath and hugged your shoulders, teeth chattering because you had forgotten to bring your sweater with you.

The door closed then something soft hit your back. You turned to the side a bit, seeing Jungkook wrapping his own jacket around you. He smiled, showing his cute little bunny teeth. "You were shivering. Don't worry about me, you can have my jacket."

"T-Thanks," You stuttered while you put on Jungkook's jacket, which was twice your size. The hem of the jacket nearly reached your hips and the sleeves covered your hands completely. Because his tall and bulky frame completely opposed your small and petite body, you felt like a dwarf wearing a giant's shirt. Still, it made you happy because you felt so warm.

You immediately spotted the head guard of the prison house, whose face was covered by a newspaper (which thankfully didn't have your face on the cover), both of his feet crossed and resting on the table. There was nothing in the room but the head guard, his desk and a giant metal door that looked heavier than the three of you combined.

Jungkook grabbed your arm and started walking towards the head guard with noisy steps, catching the older man's attention. "Uh, hello?"

"What do you brats want? Didn't you read the sign? It's lunch break," The head guard didn't even look away from his newspaper, his rudeness making you frown. He pointed upwards using his hand, which held a cigarette, you and Jungkook following his gesture to see a poorly written sign that said: Lunch Breaks every 12-1 pm.

You glanced at your watch and with luck completely not by your side, it was 12:02 pm.

"If it's lunch break, why didn't you close shop and leave to eat with the other guards?," Jungkook's eyebrows scrunched together as he crossed his arms, glaring at the head guard with so much intensity that even you flinched.

The head guard was silent for a while, then he placed the newspaper on his desk. You were greeted by a young man's face with smooth skin and it was completely the opposite of what you expected. His eyes were feline-like, reminding you of Hoseok's girlfriend Jia, and his cheekbones were relatively high. Your eyes flicked towards the nameplate which was pinned to his right breast: Joshua. "Someone has to keep guard in case the prisoners escape, right? So I ate like my life depended on it. Common sense, kid. Common sense."

Jungkook's eye twitched and you saw his gem glow a bright blue. You started to panic when his eyes slowly changed colors, so you covered his face with your hands (which required you to tiptoe) and dragged him backwards. "Sorry about my friend, Mister head guard named Joshua. Let me knock some sense into him."

Joshua rolled his eyes and continued to  read his newspaper, placing the cigarette in his mouth as you and Jungkook went out of his sight.

"I'm going to rip his head off," Jungkook hissed with gritted teeth, his completely light blue. "Who eats lunch in two minutes?! That's absolute disrespect to the food—"

"Jungkook, calm down!," You tiptoed and squished Jungkook's cheeks, making his lips pout intentionally. He stared at you as you shook him, hoping to calm him down. "You can't just kill him! Remember what we all promised, we will do everything peacefully, no violence unless it's absolutely necessary."

Blinking rapidly, Jungkook's eyes went back to their original chocolate brown color. He rubbed his nape and turned away, puffing his cheeks once again. "Sorry, it's just that he pissed me off."

You sighed and pat his chest, since he was too tall for you to reach his shoulders. "Don't worry, I'll talk to him."

Putting on a fake smile, you skipped towards Joshua's desk, Jungkook following closely and awkwardly. You rocked back and forth in place and stared at Joshua until he finally got the clue and put his newspaper away. "I thought you brats left."

"Well, Mister head guard named Joshua, my friend and I are here to interview one of the convicts," Your cheerful tone started to falter when you noticed two silhouettes from the window behind Joshua. The blonde hair made you realize who they were. Jin was waving at you while Yoongi was just cupping his chin, looking extremely bored.

Joshua laughed out loud, his cackles bouncing off the empty walls of the prison house as you and Jungkook glanced at each other awkwardly. Was it something you said? "Interview the convicts? Kid, you must be joking. This prison houses the most notorious and most dangerous criminals of Seoul. Why would you want to interview one of them?"

Jin started waving his hands around like an insane man, Yoongi judging him from the side. You were about to question him, then you saw Jungkook doing the same at the corner of your eye. Ah, so they were communicating. "You see, Mister head guard named Joshua—"

"Just call me Joshua, kid. It's getting annoying."

You stared at Jin as his eyes turned ocean blue before he wriggled his fingers, water dripping down from the space between the window and the wall. The water reached the floor, flowing towards Joshua's chair.

"...Joshua, my friend and I decided to interview one of your convicts, Kim Namjoon, for a university project," You brought your eyes back to Joshua, then you noticed the cabinet behind his chair, which was filled with keys marked with different numbers. Then, you realized that there were keys hanging from one of Joshua's belt loops. Ah, so that's what Jin was trying to do.

Catching your stare and deeming it as suspicious, Joshua turned towards the window. Thankfully, Yoongi was fast enough to pull Jin out of sight, so they weren't seen. Joshua faced you and Jungkook once more with a blank expression. "You brats must really be insane. Not only do you want to personally interview one of the convicts but you chose the most dangerous one?"

"That's exactly the point," Jungkook spoke up, pausing a bit when Jin and Yoongi popped up again, the water continuing its route towards Joshua. He crossed his arms, tapping his foot on the ground in a rhythm, giving off an intimidating vibe. "We're majoring in criminology so we want to know what goes on in a criminal's head."

"You two won't even survive a minute with Namjoon, even if I do let you in," The water was snaking up Joshua's chair but Jin paused, in fear of catching his attention. Yoongi tapped his shoulder, smirking as his eyes flashed orange and a small flame lit on his fingertip.

Oh God.

"So you won't let us in?," Jungkook insisted, intending to drag out the conversation. Yoongi licked his lips, slowly drawing a circle on the glass with his flaming finger. It only took a few seconds until there was a big hole in the glass and luckily, there was enough water on the floor for Jin to command it to catch the glass. The noise of the shatter would have caused chaos.

"Nope, sorry brats. Against the rules, nothing I can do about that," Joshua leaned on his chair as Yoongi made an imaginary slingshot behind him. He flicked a finger, a small flame flying and landing on his hair. "Now leave."

"Uh," You stared at the pillar of smoke that was starting to rise from Joshua's hair blankly, Jungkook desperately holding in his laughter behind you. "Mister head guard named Joshua, your hair is on fire."

"I told you to call me—," Joshua paused after he put a hand on his head, eyes widening when he felt the heat against his palm. In a split-second, he was running out of the room, screaming for water.

"Wow, that was extremely anti-climactic. Still, nice going, Yoongi," Jin groaned and tossed the keys towards you with a puddle of water. "You guys are okay now, I guess. Be careful around Namjoon you two, I re-read the article and he's a dangerous man."

"Thanks, Jin," You shuffled towards the door, leaving behind Jungkook to converse with Jin and Yoongi, and struggled to find the right key for the lock. It actually took you a few minutes to get it right. "Finally... Jungkook, let's go!"

Jungkook nodded and walked towards you, patting your shoulder as he passed by you and disappeared behind the door. You were about to enter as well, when you heard a deep voice call out to you.

"Yo, Cloud," You froze when Yoongi called your name, turning around to see him peeking his head through the hole in the window. His face was void of any expressions, contrary to his words. "Be careful. I won't forgive you if you get hurt."

You smiled, touched by how Yoongi actually was worried about you, making his cheeks redden and his heart skip a few beats. "Thanks, Yoongi. I'll make sure that I won't."

When you were out of sight, Yoongi cupped his red cheeks with both of hands, smiling so widely that his gums were showing. Now he himself was giving in, he was absolutely head over heels for you. You were just so beautiful and so brave... everything that he himself wasn't.

Jin giggled like a freaking girl, instantly shattering Yoongi's great mood and getting rid of the sparkles surrounding him. "Looks like someone is finally growing some ba—"

"Shut up, Blondie."

-

The hallway of the prison hall was long and dark and no matter how much Jungkook looked, he couldn't see the end of it. Suddenly, he was hit by the thoughts of all the prisoners in the other cells, making him cover his ears due to the shock. He could hear them. He could hear the twisted minds of every single convict in the room. They were disgusting, terrifying, and he himself was horrified at how a human was capable of such thoughts.

Kill. Rape. Sex. Drugs. Blood. Insanity. Everyone in the prison house had the same thoughts. Jungkook gritted his teeth, knees buckling until they gave in and he fell on his knees. His eyes were shaking, the multiple voices reminding him of the first time he gained his mind-reading abilities. It was too much, it nearly drove him insane.

"Jungkook?!," Despite how his name was being called, Jungkook could only a silhouette of you kneeling down to his level and shaking his shoulders. His vision was a complete blur, chest tightening and sweat ice cold. "A-Are you okay?! Y-You're sweating really badly."

Jungkook closed his eyes. He was telling himself to remember his method against his panic attacks. The very method that his mother had taught him: Close your eyes, take a deep breath and focus on one voice. Find a soothing voice that's different from the rest—

I hate myself.

A pause.

It's all my fault.

Jungkook had found it, the one voice that didn't have the aggressiveness of the rest. It was deep, soothing, yet filled with sadness and despair. It didn't take a complicated process of elimination for him to figure out who it was.

They're all dead because of me. I'm a murderer. I'm a demon.

"I found him," Jungkook breathed, vision clearing and chest loosening. He looked up and found you still kneeling in front of him, face contorted in worry and hands still on his shoulders.

"What?," You blinked, not really understanding what Jungkook was saying.

I deserve this life... no, I deserve death.

"Namjoon," Jungkook pointed at the door at the corner of the left side, where the voice was the strongest. He tuned out the voices of the other prisoners, only concentrating on Namjoon's, and you helped him stand up with still shaking legs. "He's in there. I can hear him."

It should have been me instead.

You stared at what Jungkook was pointing at for a while before nodding. Jungkook watched closely as you took the walkie-talkie from him and spoke to it. "Jimin, could you shut off the CCTV cameras for us?"

"Sure thing," Jimin's voice rang before there was a loud pop from the ceiling, the lightbulbs shattering one by one until it reached the cameras and fried their circuits. Now it was really dark. "Oops."

Jungkook spread open his palm, a bright ball of light floating just a centimeter above his skin. It was enough to illuminate the whole room and you had to squint your eyes because of the sudden brightness.

Since you were shielding your eyes with your hand, Jungkook — who was used to the brightness — laughed. "It's alright, Jimin. Thanks."

Leading the way, Jungkook slowly walked towards Namjoon's cell, his voice louder and more miserable with each step. You were clutching his shirt behind him, afraid that you would disappear in the darkness if you let go.

I'm so sorry. If only I could turn back time...

Jungkook blinked away his tears, feeling Namjoon's desperation and sadness in his heart. He could hear his thoughts and in a split-second, he had already found out why Namjoon was so full of regret.

Oh. For some reason, Jungkook wasn't surprised.

Contrary to the air in the hallway, Namjoon's cell was warm and... soothing. The single lightbulb in the room was dim but it was enough for Jungkook to no longer use his abilities to control light. A rusty old ceiling fan which was meant to cool the room was shut off, thanks to Jimin. Long metal bars reached the ceiling, caging the purple- haired convict in an orange suit — Kim Namjoon.

Jungkook honestly didn't know what to say in this kind of situation. He glanced at you, seeing you sweating profusely and chewing your lip. It was obvious that you too were taken aback by the current scenario. Namjoon saw the two of you, Jungkook was sure because he could hear his thoughts, but he wasn't acknowledging them, making it even more awkward.

Finally, after a long and suffocating silence, Namjoon spoke while staring at floor, hugging his knees close to his chest. He was sitting on the floor, leaving his bed in an unusually neat fashion. "I wasn't informed that I would have visitors today."

"Yeah... about that," You stepped forward while scratching your cheek. "We're here to break you out."

Namjoon turned towards you and Jungkook, eye-bags evident on his face. His eyes were dark, dead, void of any emotion. There was only little light to illuminate his face but it was enough for Jungkook to see how pale he was. He was so close to looking like a zombie. "Please stop, I don't take those kind of jokes lightly."

"We aren't joking," Jungkook spoke up and crossed his arms. Namjoon's thoughts were chaotic, full of denial, disbelief and regret, and the angel knew that it was going to take a while to explain everything to him. "We're going to break you out, whether you like it or not."

Namjoon released a low chuckle before he slowly stood up, walking towards the metal bars with big and noisy steps. He pressed his face on the cold metal, a disturbingly wide smile on his face that was showing off his dimples. Jungkook followed his first instinct and stood in front of you protectively. There was a bit of something horrifying that flashed in Namjoon's eyes that made Jungkook swallow dryly. "Really? Why would two teenage kids want to break out a murderer like me? Are you two a bit loose in the head? Or maybe you're like me?"

"I-It isn't like that at all," Your voice shook because of how nervous you were around Namjoon. Jungkook could sense it from you, since he felt the same way. "We're breaking you out because of that."

Namjoon looked down, scrunching his eyebrows at the object you were pointing at. "My choker? Why—"

"Because," Jungkook cut Namjoon off before he could voice out his strange reasoning. He reached out behind his back, tearing a part of his shirt, making you blush slightly at the amount of skin he was showing. Then, he rolled his shoulders, spreading his wings, which nearly took up the whole room. He then held the gem of his necklace, which was glowing light blue. "We are similar, yes, in a way. That gem in your hand contains power beyond your imagination. My friend Sky here is in charge of gathering you, me and five others. Namely, we're called the seven wonders. Your planet is in danger of annihilation and only the seven of us can save it. So, we need to break you out."

"Yeah, what Jungkook said," You whispered, a bit impressed by how Jungkook had decided to explain everything to Namjoon.

Jungkook stared at Namjoon, whose wide eyes were locked onto his white feathered wings. His thoughts were still scrambled, and he was deciding whether he should believe him or not. Of course, the answer was obvious.

Namjoon laughed out loud, breaking the silence and making you and Jungkook glance at each other awkwardly. He smiled once more, even lightly slapping himself in the cheeks. "So, two strangers come to my cell without warning and tell me that my choker contains magical powers? Ha, that stupid head guard must have slipped some drugs into my breakfast this morning."

"Didn't your parents ever tell you?," You asked innocently, Jungkook giving you a look because he knew that it was a sensitive topic for Namjoon.

Upon hearing your words, Namjoon's smile faded in an instant. Now his thoughts were back to being negatively chaotic. He slid to the floor, falling on his knees while gripping the cold metal bars with both hands. His face was back to the emotionless, blank canvas that it was. "If ever my parents wanted to tell me... Maybe they could have, if I hadn't killed them."

Silence fell in the room as a short gasp left your lips. Jungkook folded his wings, knowing very well that Namjoon was no longer fit to be convinced . "I-I'm sorry—"

"There's no need to apologize for being in the presence of a murderer," Namjoon said slowly, going back to his position on the floor, hugging his knees. "Please leave."

"We can't—"

"Leave!"

Sensing how you flinched at Namjoon's tone, Jungkook held your shoulders in hopes of comforting you. "We should go, Sky. There's nothing we can say or do that can make Namjoon listen to us now."

Your expression turned sour and it was obvious that you were blaming yourself for triggering Namjoon. Before Jungkook could relay words of reassurance to you, however, the door swung open.

In an instant, Jungkook was leaning on the wall to hide his wings. You stood there in confusion upon seeing the head guard, Joshua, wearing a beanie and holding a huge wrapped box in his hands. "Delivery for Kim Namjoon."

"Uh," You were speechless as the box was passed to you and the door was slammed shut. "Okay?"

Jungkook squinted his eyes. He looked for Joshua's mind, attempting to read it, and left Namjoon's procrastinating thoughts. Upon hearing the thoughts, his eyes widened.

Mission complete. They'll go out with a bang.

"Sky!," Jungkook screamed and pulled you by the jacket, making you drop the box and revealing its contents. In it was a bomb, timer set to blow in merely ten seconds. "Get away from there!"

"Wha—," Your voice was blocked by Jungkook's wings, which shielded you as the timer went off.

Boom.
