17. Reunion
"Emily?"
You blinked multiple times, not believing that you were really seeing Emily, your best friend, staring at you with a wide smile. You rubbed your eyes, thinking that you were hallucinating due to the amount of blood you lost, and gasped softly when Emily still remained. Indeed, she wasn't a figment of your imagination.
"Hey," Emily smirked, her eyes glossy with tears. You always thought that she would look beautiful in a pink dress and there was no doubt that she was. The electric bow in her hand rendered you speechless but to be frank, that was the least of your concerns right now.
Despite the confusion and blood soaking your dress, you pulled Emily into a hug and let your tears fall freely. You couldn't believe that you were seeing Emily in the flesh after so long, especially since you thought that you would never see each other again.
"I— I don't understand," You sniffed and pulled away from the hug, noticing that the wound in your abdomen was completely healed. You were definitely going to thank Jin after this. "How are you— but—"
Emily placed a finger on your lips to silence you and smiled, cupping your cheek with one hand and wiping your tears with the other. "Didn't you say yourself that we would meet again? Well, here I am."
Those words made you cry harder, so you held Emily's hand and squeezed it, hoping that you would make her feel your love and how much you missed her during all those weeks without her.
You and Emily's reunion had touched everyone in some way. Jin's eyes were glossy as well and he was squeezing Emily's shoulder for comfort. Jimin and Jungkook were smiling widely, their heart warmed by the scene before them. Even Yoongi and Taehyung were smiling just a bit, although Taehyung was hiding his expression with his hand, since he didn't want anyone to see him.
Then, you looked around, realizing that there was an unfamiliar man in the room — the blonde man, who sported white feathered wings on his back. At first, you wondered who he was, then you noticed the white gem, accompanied by a silver chain, which was resting on his chest. He's the bearer of the light gem? Who—
"Jungkook," You were surprised when Jungkook spoke suddenly, then he cleared his throat. "My name is Jungkook and yes, I'm the bearer of the light gem."
You blinked in confusion. "How—"
"For the third time today, Jungkook has the ability to hear thoughts," The familiar voice made you turn around and you saw Taehyung standing a foot away from you, arms crossed and eyes boring into your skull. Seeing Taehyung always reminded you of your first encounter with him and it felt... strange. Somehow, that event held a special place in your heart. "You should thank him, you know, if it wasn't for him you'd still be bleeding out."
Jungkook was wearing a scowl but his expression shifted instantly upon hearing Taehyung's words. "Huh, that's the first nice thing you said today, Taehyung."
Taehyung merely scoffed and turned away. "Whatever."
"You found three wonders in one day, Sky. Impressive."
The voice made you jump slightly, then your eyes widened when you realized who it was. Thankfully, Emily was conversing with Jin (who you noticed was a bit attached to your best friend), so you turned around and whispered. "K! Are you alright?"
"I am fine, Sky, no need to worry about me," K's voice sounded strained, as if she had just come back from a war she fought alone, and no matter how rude and indifferent she was towards you, you were still worries about her. After all, she was a part of you. "Shay was blocking me, preventing me from contacting or protecting you. I apologize for not being able to contribute anything, which lead to your injury."
"It's fine, K, really," You said slowly, wondering what happened to K in the amount of time that Shay had been blocking her. However, you could feel that she didn't want to tell you, so you didn't push it. "What matters is that you're back and alright."
Honestly, you expected K to express her gratitude even with a short thanks but she didn't say anything at all, which was expected of her — someone who didn't know how to feel. "I've identified who the remaining wonders are while I was gone."
Your eyes widened at K's words. You glanced at your watch, which was no longer glowing since Jimin had unlocked his gem — you knew because you noticed that his ring's gem was now a bright yellow. Obviously, he was the bearer of the thunder gem. "Who are they? And where can we find them?"
"Their names are Jung Hoseok and Kim Namjoon."
Yoongi was watching you closely, since he had absolutely no trust in the other wonders. Well, he had learned to trust Jin in the amount of time they had spent together and he was grateful towards Jungkook for helping you but he still wan't that sure about Taehyung and Jimin, since he had just met the two. Especially Taehyung, since he was emitting an aura that just made Yoongi feel uneasy, and it didn't help that he was bearing the darkness gem, giving Yoongi the idea of him being evil.
Maybe Yoongi was just mad at Taehyung because he didn't even spare you a glance, despite the look you had every time he was in your view. Or maybe he hated how he would only help if he wanted to. No, he was admitting, he was jealous of him — both of his good looks and how he had caught your attention. One thing was for sure, though, Yoongi despised Taehyung's guts.
"Sky is going to melt if you keep staring at her like that," Jimin piped up from next to Yoongi, who jumped in his skin at the sudden voice. He turned around and saw Jimin staring at him with a smile, his eyes disappearing because of his toothy grin.
"What are you saying," Contrary to Yoongi's words, his eyes were still locked on you. Ever since his talk with Jin in the kitchen, he had gained a sense of protectiveness over you. He was willing to use his whole body to protect you, so when he found out that you were gravely injured, he blamed himself for not being there for you. He knew that he could protect you, he really did, he just had to be in your presence.
Jimin massaged his head and fluffed his orange hair, his thick lips forming into a pout. Yoongi could tell by his scrunched eyebrows that he was being mocked. "Well, think of it as a recipe. Putting together what Jungkook said about your thoughts of Sky and the way you are staring at her right now, there's an obvious answer — you are whipped."
"Your point?," Yoongi seethed through gritted teeth, his eyes twitching since he hated the idea of someone as bubbly as Jimin to be mocking him.
Jimin shrugged and pushed up his glasses with two fingers. "I don't know... I'm just saying that you should tell Sky how you feel about her before it's too late. I wasn't able to tell my parents and younger brother that I loved them before they died so... Trust me, you don't want to commit the same mistake as I did."
Yoongi was a bit disturbed by how Jimin said it so casually, to the point that he was just cleaning the lenses of his glasses, as if he didn't say anything at all. This made Yoongi remember his own parents — no, his abusive mother and missing father. It made him wonder what it was like to have loving parents, just to have them disappear into thin air. It saddened him, yes, but at the same time, he wasn't really feeling any empathy towards Jimin — after all he's been through, he learned that empathy would only bring him bad consequences.
Thus, Yoongi only placed a hand on Jimin's shoulder and awkwardly replied with: "I'm sorry."
Well, at least Yoongi tried to be sympathetic.
Jimin massaged his nape and gave out a wry smile. Still, he was glad that Yoongi at least tried to comfort him. "I don't think about it much now so... Thanks. Oh, by the way, it looks like your girl is about to make an announcement."
Yoongi turned around instantly, making Jimin snicker, and saw you standing up with a determined expression, hands on your hips and eyebrows creased together. Obviously, you were going to say something important, so he pursed his lips and listened to your booming voice.
"Guys," You raised an eyebrow since you didn't catch anyone's attention — with the exception of Yoongi and Jimin. Clearing your throat, you screamed again with an even louder voice. "Guys!"
Suddenly, there was a loud whistle and everyone's heads rose like they were a group of meerkats. You turned around and saw Taehyung with his thumb and index finger in between his lips but he shoved them in his pocket as soon as you made eye contact with him.
Taehyung looked away and released a puff of air, blowing the bangs off his face, while you continued to stare at him. "What? Don't look at me like that. Weren't you going to say something?"
You smiled, nodding at Taehyung to express your gratitude, even though he wasn't looking. "We need to get out of here. With the amount of damage we caused and all the people who made it out, it's a fact that at least one of them called the police on us."
"Sky is right," Emily stood up next to you, flicking her wrist so that her electric faded into sparks and entered the mechanism on her arm. "The last thing we want is to be in jail until the world is destroyed."
"So we just leave? Like we were never here?," Jin asked, earning a look from Taehyung, while picking on the hole in his jacket.
"That's exactly what we have to do," Jungkook replied and you noticed that his wings were gone and he was now wearing a long sleeved white polo. Your eyes flicked towards Manager Kang, whose upper body was naked, and you had to hold in your laughter. "We disappear."
"Disappear? That's easy," Taehyung mused with a sly smirk and started walking towards the building's exit, the rest following — with the exception of one person.
Jimin's shadow casted over Manager Kang, who was half-naked and still knocked out cold. His hands were in his pockets, the wind blowing his orange hair, revealing his eyes, which were void of any emotions. He was staring down at older man with mixed feelings, glad to finally be free from the clutches of his gold-digging manager but also saddened at how Manager Kang will be alone if he leaves. After all, even with all the arguments, they were still a family.
Sixteen year old Jimin sat in front of three tombstones, a bouquet of white roses in between his trembling hands, his body shivering due to the cold. Tears silently fell down his cheeks as he placed the bouquet in front of his mother's grave.
He hugged his knees close to his chest and heard the shutters of cameras not so far away. He was angered because the paparazzi couldn't even leave him alone while he mourned the deaths of his family. What were they going to do? Put his crouched, crying figure on the tabloid and uncomfortably state details of how his mother, father and younger brother all passed away in a terrible car accident? Just the thought of it infuriated Jimin to the core.
So, Jimin stood up, ignoring the screams of reporters and flashes of cameras surrounding him. He closed his eyes, imagining his mother, father and younger brother standing before him, breathing, alive. Then, he opened his eyes and was greeted by the pale grass and tombstones — which served as a grim reminder that his family was gone and they were never coming back.
Now he was truly alone in the world.
"I'm sorry," Jimin whispered softly before he turned around, becoming face to face with numerous cameras. Inside, he was fueled with anger and hatred towards the media. How dare they crash into a funeral with the thirst to entertain hungry civilians with tragedies and drama? Outside, however, he kept a straight face, eyes blank as he started to walk towards the reporters.
Jimin was going to give those reporters a lesson. If they had no respect towards his family, then he didn't have any respect towards them as well. It was give and take. He didn't care about his image as a singer and actor at all.
Before Jimin could be in close proximity with one of the female reporters, a tall and buff man stood in front of him and blocked his way. He paused, looking up to see an unfamiliar man with the same formal attire as him, and tapped his rock hard chest.
"Get out of my way," Jimin muttered with no inkling of emotion in his voice at all. He tried to overtake the buff man but was held in place with an arm on his waist.
"Think about what you're doing. You wouldn't want your image to get flushed down the toilet," The man whispered back, loud enough for only he and Jimin to hear.
Jimin looked up once more, silent, since he was in no mood to argue. Instead, he scanned the man's face, seeing a bit of familiarity since the man resembled his father. "Who are you?"
"I'm Park Kang, your uncle. I've only recently arrived in Korea. I'm sorry for our loss," Our? Jimin didn't think so. If this so called uncle really did care, he wouldn't have left the country in the first place. "From now on, I'm going to take care of you. Your father would have wanted that."
"Jimin. Hey, Jimin."
Upon hearing his name, Jimin snapped out of his flashback and turned around, seeing you standing there with your flowing purple dress and loose silver hair.
Your eyes flicked towards Manager Kang's unconscious body, then at Jimin, who was staring at you with no specific expression or whatsoever. "Are you coming?"
Jimin looked back at Manager Kang, realizing that this was a decision that could change his whole life. He could stay and continue his life as a singer and actor forced to do things against his will, or he could leave and start from scratch, pursuing his destiny as a wonder, as the bearer of the gem of thunder. He was meant for something much more.
To Jimin, the answer was obvious.
"Yeah... I am," Jimin took one last look at Manager Kang before turning around and whispering softly to himself. "Goodbye, Park Kang. I hope you find somebody else to milk money out of."
Thus, Jimin walked away, leaving behind his life as a celebrity and starting anew as one of the seven wonders.
-
"Ernstig?" Taehyung whispered as he raised his arms in the air. He rolled his eyes as policemen pointed their guns at him and the others. The chief of Seoul Police Department stood on one of the cars, demanding that all seven of them surrender with his giant headphone.
At this moment, you and Jimin walked out of the building, the two of you pausing upon realizing that the whole compound was filled with police cars and officers.
"What the—"
"I said nobody move!"
Jimin, having his first time experiencing a possible arrest, immediately raised both of his arms in the air with wide eyes and hitched breath. You, on the other hand, simply rolled your eyes, annoyed that the police already caught wind of the situation, before slowly raising your hands.
"The cops came a little quicker than expected," Jungkook whispered through gritted teeth, not peeling his eyes off the officer closest to him because he definitely didn't want to get shot. "Does anyone here have some sort of plan?"
"I do," Everyone faced Jin, who had been unusually calm during the whole situation. Experience, perhaps? "At least, I think I do."
"Spill it, Blondie. We have to get away somehow," Yoongi hissed, who was also as unusually calm as Jin. His teeth were gritted and he was releasing a literally burning glare from his eyes, which flashed orange for a split second. "I don't want to be put in jail again."
"Again? What do you mean again?"
Before Yoongi could answer your question, Jin thankfully started to narrate the details of his plan. "Do you guys see the black sedan just behind the last police car? That's our ride home. We have to somehow get in and lose the police so we can arrive at my vacation house safely."
"How?," Jimin squeaked out with bus little voice while the police demanded they surrender within five minutes, else forced to use brutality against them. "They will stop at nothing to catch us, especially because we ran away. It will be easier to surrender."
"Surrender? And then what? We escape?," Emily spat, making Jimin flinch. She was obviously pissed and you knew that nothing could calm her down right now, so you silently watched and hoped that she wouldn't throw a fist at the thunder gem bearer. "We just let them take away our personal belongings – including your gems and our weapons, preventing anyone from having the ability to escape – and land our asses behind rusty metal bars until the King of Vrede takes over Earth and leads humanity into extinction? Sorry but that isn't an option."
"Which is why Taehyung and I will distract the police," Jungkook nodded while glancing at Taehyung, who had an eyebrow raised and looked as if he was going to protest, although he didn't say anything. "Right, Tae?"
Taehyung paused for an uncomfortably long time, making you wonder what was going on through that mind of his. It looked like Jungkook did though, with the way he was smirking slightly at Taehyung's hesitation. You weren't surprised, after all he could read minds. Still, you wondered if Taehyung was protesting or weighing the current situation at hand. "I told you not to call me Tae."
"He agrees," Jungkook shrugged whilst Taehyung clicked his tongue.
"On the count of three, we will be forced to shoot you!"
"Are you guys ready?," You glanced at Emily and the five wonders, all of them – with the exception of Taehyung – giving you small nods. "Please don't hurt any of the officers, they're only doing their jobs."
"One!"
Taehyung stared at all six people around him before flicking his wrist, purple mist flying in the air and snaking around everyone's faces. You jumped a bit when your vision was blocked for a while, expecting to be suffocated but was surprised that nothing happened.
What did he just do?
"What did you just do?," Yoongi mimicked your thoughts, his hands now balled into fists.
"Two!"
"Relax," Taehyung just rolled his eyes and twirled his fingers, the purple mist going around his own face before disappearing completely. "I put an enchantment on all of us. You wouldn't want the whole country to recognize you when you continue to stroll around the streets in search of the others, don't you?"
Taehyung pointed upwards, all of you looking up to see a helicopter, just in time for its blinding light to flash on all seven of you like a spotlight. "That's... actually pretty smart."
When Taehyung smirked, you swore that your heart skipped a bit. Yoongi scoffed from the side. "Thank me later."
"Guys, the plan?!," Jimin was ecstatic as the policemen started to cock their guns.
"Three!"
"Just dodge the bullets and run!," Jin screamed before grabbing the person nearest to him, Emily, carrying her bridal style whilst he summoned a wave of water to surf on, bullets flying past him and barely grazing his arms.
Yoongi tugged on Jimin's arm, pulling him, and created a pillar of fire to distract nearby policemen. You grabbed the knife, which you had placed back in a secret pocket in your dress, and ran as it turned into a katana in your hands. From the corner of your eye, you saw Jungkook spring off the ground and spread his white wings in mid-air, nearly tearing his shirt completely off his body.
You wondered if Jungkook had chiseled abs, then you realized that it wasn't the right time to be thinking about that.
At first, you wondered why you couldn't even feel the bullets graze past your hair, then you saw Taehyung standing in the middle of the chaos, both palms raised, forcefields surrounding everyone including himself. He looked tired, nonetheless, and his face was contorted in pain so you were confused at how he was the only wonder so far who had difficulty using his powers.
"Cloud, watch out!"
You turned around upon hearing Yoongi's voice, your eyes widening when you saw a grenade flying in the air towards you.
"Jungkook!," Taehyung screamed as he continued to protect himself from the bullets.
"Got it!," Jungkook literally swooped in like a bird, spinning around and using his wings to shield himself from the bullets. It was almost as if his wings were bulletproof. He caught the grenade and threw it high in the sky, right before it exploded, not harming anyone on the ground.
"That's so cool," Jimin was awestruck as he put on a stupid expression, Yoongi pulling him away with a scoff.
"Sky! Get to the car!"
When you heard Jin's voice, you turned around, just in time to see him surf through with a road of water, Emily clung onto his back and armed with her bow. He tossed the car keys of his black sedan towards you and you barely caught it due to how sudden it was.
You wanted to say that you couldn't drive but decided against it and made your way towards the black sedan. Thankfully, no officers were after you and Taehyung was still making a forcefield around you, so you were able to get in the driver's seat with no problems. You plugged in the keys and revived the engine.
However, as soon as you shut the car door and stared at the multiple buttons and controls, your head spun. Seeing all the complicated mechanisms made you feel like you were in an alien spaceship.
"Handbreak."
"What?," You unintentionally snapped at K, since you were frustrated by how you couldn't think straight in a situation as drastic as this.
"Pull the handbreak — the lever between the driver seat and the passenger seat — to release the brakes and allow you to drive," You paused for a while before you realized that K was giving you instructions on how to drive. You wondered why an alien spirit knew how to drive a car but that was the least of your worries as of now.
You pulled the handbreak, hearing a click and feeling something pop beneath your seat. Quietly, you waited for K's next instructions.
"There is another lever just above the handbreak. This allows you to shift gears. Push it upwards until the gear has been set to drive."
All the confusion made your head spin even more. Still, you assumed that D was drive and set it to that gear before aggressively pressing your foot on the acceleration. At least, you knew which pedals were the brake and the acceleration.
However, you accelerated too much, the car speeding off the parking slot and crashing into the car in front of you, triggering its alarm. Thankfully, the impact wasn't strong enough to trigger any air bags or cause any permanent damage, so you calmly shifted to the reverse gear – courtesy of K – and drove backwards until you could see Jin and Emily skidding away from police officers.
You frantically spun the steering wheel, basing your actions on video games you played before, and drifted until the car skidded into a stop, Jin stopping just in time before he could bump into it. The window had already shattered when you crashed into another car so there was no need to bring it down. "Get in!"
"I can walk on my own!," Emily hissed at Jin and released herself from her grasp, hiding her electric bow before stepping into the backseat. Jin silently entered and sat on the passenger seat. You were a big saddened by his expression, since you could see that was a bit hurt by Emily's tone.
You instantly started the car again, alerting some of the policemen and making them run towards their own cars to chase you. It only took a while until you spotted Yoongi and Jimin, who were cornered against a wall. After you listened closely, you realized that Jimin was telling them not to shoot because he was a celebrity, which actually did make them hesitate.
"Yoongi! Jimin! Come on!," You blared the car horn, unsafely catching everyone's attention. Emily facepalmed behind you and you laughed awkwardly when you realized that you just worsened the situation.
Suddenly, Jimin's eyes turned golden yellow and sparks started to fly in the air around his hands. "Close your eyes!"
At first, you were confused, until a ball of electricity started to form above Jimin's palms and you finally got whiff of what he was planning to do. You instantly ducked and shut your eyes tight, a blinding light flashing even through your eyelids, accompanied with screams of policemen.
After a long silence, you opened your eyes and peeked outside to see policemen clutching their eyes and groaning in pain on the ground. The police cars were also a charred black, their bumpers split open and hoods ripped apart, smoke bellowing out from the engines.
"I fried their cars so they can't come after us. I fried the helicopter too but Taehyung and Jungkook made sure that it wouldn't crash," Jimin winked and sat next to Emily, Yoongi following and sitting on his other side. You snapped out of your trance when the car door was slammed shut. "No need to thank me. Also, I only temporarily blinded the policemen, don't worry, they'll be fine."
A loud bang came from the ceiling of the car, making both you and Emily squeal a bit. Jin, although a bit terrified, rolled down the window and looked at what, or who, made that noise. He released a sigh of relief after a few seconds. "It's just Jungkook, thank God. You should move a bit, Yoongi, he's about to go in."
Although hesitating a bit, Yoongi ended up scooting to the side when the door opened once again. He raised an eyebrow at the nearly half-naked Jungkook before he took off his semi-tattered coat and tossed it towards the angel. He could see part of his abs under the ruined cloth and he definitely didn't want you to see them. "Wear something. You look like one of the naked angel babies in Christian paintings."
"Thanks," Jungkook replied sarcastically and entered the car wearing Yoongi's buttoned-up black coat.
There was a long silence, since everyone was definitely taken aback by the events that just took place, before Jin spoke: "Do you want me to drive?"
When you realized that you were gripping on the steering wheel so tightly that your knuckles were turning white, you nodded and silently stepped out of the car, letting Jin take your place.
Outside was chaotic. Policemen were still on the floor clutching their eyes in pain and the building which held the party had shattered windows and holes in the walls. Smoke was rising from the cars, helicopter and building. The ground was full of cracks, some patches of grass burnt or wet.
Something was definitely off and it took a few minutes for you to realize – Taehyung was gone.
"He left. I didn't stop him. Never could, anyways," Jungkook called out after rolling down his window, his elbow leaning outside. The wind blew your loose silver hair as you stood next to the passenger side, looking up at the sky, wondering where he was.
You thought you saw a figure on the smoking building's roof, staring back at you with an expression like he had to leave even though he didn't want to but you just dismissed it as your imagination.
-
Taehyung was silent during your brief eye contact with each other and he continued to not utter out any words as you stepped back into the car, before Jin drove away. He released a deep sigh and swung his legs from the corner of the roof, staring up into the empty and starless night sky.
It's not like Taehyung didn't want to leave but it's not like he wanted to either. Being alone most of his life, he actually enjoyed the company of others, even when he was around the annoying angel named Jeon Jungkook. But... he needed to go, for his own sake and for everyone else's. It was necessary for his plan.
Taehyung stood up, cracking his knuckles and stretching his arms, feeling a presence behind him. It no longer surprised that a lot of his acquaintances had the habit of come and go whenever they wanted to, much like himself.
"You are pathetic," Shay hissed and emphasized each word, floating half a foot above the ground and purple mist dancing on the floor around her.
Taehyung turned around, eyes purple like violet orchids, arms crossed over his chest and a sly smile spread across his face. "You ran away from the others while nobody was looking and you call me pathetic?"
"I cannot fathom why you still have difficulty grasping the full potential of your abilities, even after all these years," Shay landed on the ground, twirling her staff, her long purple cape transforming into a thin, see-through long-sleeved dress that was flowing down to the floor.
Seeing Shay's and trick and having the slight urge to show off, Taehyung flicked his wrist, purple mist wrapping around his body and fading away, to reveal that he was once again wearing his black hoodie. He covered his face with his hood, only revealing his lips, before sighing. "Your point is?"
"I can give you the assistance needed for you to gain full control over your gem. In the simplest human language — I am offering you power."
For a moment, Taehyung felt like he was in the presence of the Devil, who was whispering sweet temptations into his ear. Power. It was all he needed to fulfill his plan. But, alas, he would not let himself be swayed. There were always two sides of a coin — the consequences greater then the benefits — and through experience, he knew that if it's too sweet, it's too evil.
So, instead of agreeing in a heartbeat like an idiot would, Taehyung stepped backwards and cocked an eyebrow in suspicion. "What's in it for you?"
Shay smiled.
