15. Stigma

"I feel very uncomfortable regarding this situation, Sky," K said in a whisper which was barely audible, making you frown. Yoongi was now conversing with Jimin — unfortunately you and Yoongi were unaware that he was a fake — although he still kept you behind him and was holding onto your forearms protectively.

"What do you mean?," You whispered with furrowed eyebrows, still feeling uneasy about the fact that Jimin would glance at you from time to time, his green eyes piercing into yours. "He's a wonder. Why are you doubting him?"

"Something isn't right with him, Sky. He's— no— fe—"

"K?," You received a glance from Yoongi, who had definitely sensed that something was wrong. Since he didn't know about K, it looked like you were talking to yourself. "Are you okay?"

"Someone is blocking me—"

And K was gone. Even her presence itself had disappeared completely, making you break into cold sweat. You clutched Yoongi's arm as he continued to converse with Jimin, nervousness resting at the pit of your gut.

"So you bear the fire gem?," Jimin said while pointing at Yoongi's ring, the latter instinctively hiding his hand behind his back.

Yoongi squinted his eyes, not starting to feel a bit doubtful towards Jimin, who was just giving him an eye smile. You scanned his body, utter confusion hitting you when you realized that Jimin didn't have a gem on him. "How did you know?"

Jimin paused, his expression shifting multiple times before he finally decided to keep his smile. He clasped his hands together and released a heavy sigh, both you and Yoongi sensing how tense and nervous he was. "I just do."

"Where's your gem?," You said slowly as you felt the knife you strapped to your leg, hidden under your skirt. "And which gem is it."

"Stop asking so many questions," Jimin snapped through gritted teeth, his green eyes glowing and arms crossed over his chest. "You're the guardian, aren't you? You should know."

"I never told you that," By now, most of the people had left and only you, Yoongi and Jimin were backstage.

Being hit with realization, Yoongi summoned flames in his palms and made sure he was behind you, his eyes glowing orange. "You aren't Jimin. Where is he?"

For a moment, Jimin — at least that's who this creature was disguised as — was silent as you unsheathed the knife from the scabbard strapped to your leg. You transformed it into a sword while flames wrapped around Yoongi's arms, burning his sleeves.

"Reveal yourself," Yoongi hissed.

Jimin cackled before he waved his hand, his whole body being coated in purple mist, before his true form was revealed — making you and Yoongi's eyes widen.

The woman looked extremely similar to K, except that she had green eyes, a thinner stature and was also taller. She was sporting tight black tights, a long purple cape flowing down her back. She had dark purple skin and jet black hair, a long silver staff in her hands.

"You're smarter than you look, guardian," She had a semi English accent, making you wonder if aliens were British — what a stupid thought. "Vrede belongs to the King of Darkness, neither you or your superhero friend are going to change that."

"I'm not a superhero bitch, I'm a wonder," Yoongi smirked as he enlarged a fireball on his palm before throwing it towards the girl. Both your smiles faded when a portal appeared in front of her after she waved her staff, the fireball shooting through the red curtains behind her.

"Pathetic," The girl stepped towards you and you positioned into a fighting stance, which was quite difficult because of the gown you were currently wearing. Yoongi's flames strengthened, the thought of protecting you being the only thing in his mind. "Is that all you can do flame-boy? I see that you haven't got a full hold of your powers yet. You, Sky, that's what they call you? Such a petty and weak little—"

Suddenly, a purple ball shot through the air and hit the woman, cutting her off and throwing her out of your eye of sight. You and Yoongi stared at each other with a mixture of utter shock and relief. You thought of only one possibility of where that purple ball came from but you doubted that it was—

"Sorry, she was talking way too much. I had to stop her somehow."

Then, he came into view. The bearer of the gem of darkness — the one who had saved your life on that faithful day in the orphanage — wearing a suit and tie, contrary to his usual attire of a hoodie and jeans. You stared at, stunned at how handsome he was in formal attire, actually you thought all men were — although he was definitely an exception. He wasn't hiding his face at all — he had no mask — and it was obvious that he was uncomfortable.

Tailing behind the bearer of the gem of darkness was the real Jimin, big brown eyes full of confusion and fear. He was clutching on the other's tuxedo in a tight grip, his round glasses hanging at the tip of his nose. You were absolutely sure that it was Park Jimin, especially because he wore a ring that enclosed a grey gem.

"Are you guys alright?," Although his face was stoic, you could tell that he was worried — at least that's what you wanted to think. "Did she hurt you?"

You were definitely stunned by his handsome features and Yoongi saw your expression, which honestly pained his heart a little. Unintentionally, Yoongi had a sour tone as he spoke: "We're fine."

He took a glance at Yoongi before he looked at Jimin, who was just looking around in confusion, his thicks lips in a pout. "I'm guessing you need an explanation."

"Uh, yeah I do," Jimin said sartiscally with a raised eyebrow. "I need to know who all of you are and a clarification of—"

"Sky will be happy to explain," You wanted to protest but couldn't when Jimin was shoved at you. The bearer of the gem of darkness cocked his head at Yoongi, who was glaring at him. "The two of you need to get out of here and be safe — at least until Jimin unlocks his powers. Yoongi, you and I will stay here and stop Shay from injuring any civilians."

"Powers?," Everyone turned towards Jimin, who was glancing back and forth at your sword, Yoongi's flame-coated arms and the purple mist flying around them. "...What powers? I don't have powers, I'm just—"

"I'll explain everything, Jimin. First, we need to get you to safety. I'll protect you, don't worry, it's my job," Jimin was definitely confused but he still grabbed your hand and let you drag him away. He had a gut feeling that being with you would keep him safe.

"Be careful," You expected Yoongi to say that — actually he was going to — but instead it came from the bearer of the gem of darkness, who was staring at you with blank eyes, purple mist fluttering around his hands.

"I will...," You trailed off, since you still hadn't gotten his name. Yoongi was staring, hating how the two of you actually had a connection. He was jealous, he admitted.

"I go by many names, if that's what you're asking yourself right now," He said with a smirk, showing his pointed teeth, purple eyes glinting. "But... You can call me Taehyung. Now scram, it isn't safe here."

As soon as you and Jimin were out of sight, Yoongi glared at Taehyung, a bit annoyed by his very presence. He hated the look you had whenever you mentioned or looked at Taehyung and he wished you acted the same way towards himself. "Do you have a plan?"

"Of course I do," Taehyung tilted his head towards Yoongi, a cocky smile on his face. He lifted a finger and twirled it, purple mist forming into a shape similar to the milky way. "I always do."

"Arrogant much?"

"I heard that."

Suddenly, Shay — the woman who had tried to attack you — slowly rose from the ground like a puppet, her neck snapping back into place as she stood up. She fixed her broken jaw by pushing it, before smiling at the two men in front of her. "Dat is lang geleden, Taehyung."

"Ik ben niet echt blij om je jier te zien, Shay," Taehyung's hands balled to fists, the purple mist snaking up his arms. He glanced at Yoongi, who was summoning flames around his feet, confused by the strange language he just heard. He wondered if Taehyung and Shay knew each other, which sounded farfetched but it was possible.

"Listen, Yoongi. Shay is one of the most powerful magicals from Vrede and she won't hesitate to kill both of us with a flick of her wrist," Taehyung whispered, making sure that Shay wouldn't hear a single word he said. His purple eyes stared at Yoongi, who was listening to every word. "She's strong, can make portals that will lead you to dimensions and more. However, she has a weakness."

"Which is?"

"She's alone. You know what they say, two heads are better than one."

Jin squinted his eyes, not believing the scene that was playing out in front of him like a movie. The winged man — the bartender he was speaking to not so long ago — was in the air, battling the lizard like thing that had tried to attack him.

"Don't just stand there, Jin!," The bearer of the gem of light screamed as he wrapped his arms around the monster, which flailed around. "Find Emily!"

"Why do you know my na—"

"Just go!"

Jin started to walk away but he paused, glancing back up at the bearer of the light gem. "Thanks bartender."

"It's Jungkook," The bearer of the light gem — Jungkook scoffed at the nickname given to him and shot out a beam of light from his palm, pushing the monster, making it crash into the wall across him. "Don't call me bartender, it was my disguise so that I could help in case anything like this happened. Go!"

A bit hesitant, Jin nodded and summoned a wave of water, elevating him so he could avoid the crowd. He surfed through the area, screaming Emily's name as he scanned through the chaos of panic.

Jungkook watched Jin as he surfed away, high in the air and wings fluttering behind him. He crossed his arms, wondering how he dealt with being a wonder, not noticing the lizard monster that pounced towards him.

Due to this, Jungkook and the monster crashed to the ground, making more civilians scream, also giving him one hell of a backache.

Jungkook was frustrated. Not only because the lizard monster was breathing on his face with the stinkiest smell he's ever encountered, also because the war that should have just been in Vrede had been brought to Earth, putting millions of innocent lives at stake. None of them — not even you, Emily and the rest of the wonders — deserved to be involved in any of this chaos.

"You know what?," Jungkook's eyes glowed light blue as he grabbed the monster's face, pointed teeth gritted. He shoved his hand deep into the monster's slimy throat, anger taking over him. "If you survive, relay this message to the King of Darkness: Neuken. Van Hier."

Jungkook shot out a beam of light from his palm, piercing through the monster's body and onto the floor, creating a small crater. He tossed the monster's body away — not caring if it was alive, most probably it was — and wiped his bloody hand on his pants. He rolled his shoulders, relaxing and stretching his wings.

Jungkook slowly lifted himself in the air with his wings, peering at the crowd of panicked civilians. "It's been a while since I've been part of a little action. Let's have fun, shall we?"

-

"Emily! Emily, can you hear me?!"

"Jin!"

Landing on the table of desserts, Jin paused and looked around, trying to find the source of Emily's voice. He almost fell due to the surge of people but he kept his balance. "Emily? Where are you—"

"Under the table, you dimwit!"

Jin bent his waist and peeked under the table, seeing Emily clutching her bleeding leg. A piece of wood was sticking out of her thigh and staining her pink dress in blood. He crawled under the table and sat in front of her, flinching at the injury.

"Hey, what are you doing?!," Emily screamed when Jin ripped her dress, revealing her legs.

"I'll assume that you're thinking of me being a pervert but I'm not. In order to treat your wound, I need to see it," Jin held the piece of wound, Emily tensing and grabbing his shoulders. "Listen, I'm going to have to pull this out. Are you ready? Just breath."

Emily froze but she knew it was necessary, so she nodded. "I might punch you, it's an instinct I have when I feel pain."

"Sure," Jin wasn't really listening because of all the blood he was seeing, so he didn't understand what Emily said. "On three, one, two—"

As soon as Jin pulled out the bloody piece of wood, Emily screamed and punched him across the face. Jin fell backwards, his knees hitting the frame of the table.

"I warned you," Emily shrugged while Jin rubbed his aching cheek. "Sorry."

"It's fine," Jin licked his lips and healed Emily's leg with his water, the later staring at her healed leg with wide eyes. "It might ache a bit but you'll be fine."

"...Thanks, Jin."

There was a moment of silence, the two only staring in each other's eyes, before Jin broke it by speaking. "We need to find Sky."

"Yeah," Emily coughed before crawling out from under the table. Thankfully, most of the people had ran out of the building, so only a few people were left inside. "Yeah, we should."

Jin was feeling something he couldn't describe when he followed Emily. It was something... weird and he knew the last time he felt it was when he was around Ross and Foy, many years ago.

What was it? Jin stared at the back of Emily's head as they made it through the crowd, trying to find an answer.

Jin paused when Emily turned around, their faces merely inches apart. He opened his mouth to say something, then he was tackled to the ground.

Something flew through the air, brushing only a centimeter past Jin's ear, and struck the ground. It was a black, scaly spike, it's tip glowing purple. The floor around the arrow was rotting, turning charcoal black and cracking.

"Poison arrow," Emily stood up, slapping her gloved hand on the metal brace on her other arm. It sparked, then a bolt of electricity was made, forming into a bow. Another spark, then an arrow made of pure electricity formed. Jin stared at the weapon in awe. "This is a full-blown attack."

"We have to get all the civilians— Watch out!," Jin had seen another poison arrow fly in the air, so he formed a water slicer around his fist and split it into two before it could hit him or Emily. "Wow, that was close."

"Look," Emily pointed to the ceiling, seeing the monster which was shooting the poison arrows. It looked exactly like the lizard Jungkook was fighting, except it had armor and was holding a bow and arrow. She glanced at the pool of water around Jin's feet, a smirk forming on her face. "Hey, Jin, I have a plan."

"Really? What is it?"

"Well, it involves a little shock."

-

"So you're saying that this ring has powers in it?"

You and Jimin were currently inside the kitchen, which you deemed was the safest place in the whole building — as of right now. The two of you were behind a cabinet of dishes, hiding just in case something would enter.

"I guess you can put it that way," You whispered and clutched the sword in front of you, feeling uncomfortable because you were wearing a gown. Since you felt cold, Jimin had given you his suit, and now he was wearing a long-sleeved white polo. "Your father passed it onto you, so now you're replacing his position as one of the seven wonders."

Jimin fell silent, trying to take in all the information he was getting. Then, he laughed out loud, head thrown back and hands clutching his stomach, making you glance at him with a raised eyebrow. He stood up, brushing the dust off his knees. "Powers? Another planet? Listen, Sky, right? I don't even know why I came with a total stranger but maybe it was because I wanted a little excitement in my singer life. Look, you have my attention now, so what do you want? My autograph? Money? Or maybe even—"

"God dammit Park Jimin I am not here for anything!," You snapped, using your free hand to grab Jimin by the collar. "You are a wonder and I am your guardian. We are here to save the world—"

A loud hiss cut you off, making both you and Jimin snap your heads towards the source of the noise. Something was standing in front of the now open kitchen door, watching the two of you.

The creature looked like a snake, except that it had purple skin and long, slender arms with clawed hands. It's beady black eyes stared into your soul, its long red tongue reaching below its chin. It had no feet, just an endless and disgustingly slimy rattlesnake tail.

"Don't. Move," You told Jimin through gritted teeth, clutching his arm tightly. Both of you froze like statues as the creature slithered across the room, searching for both. Based on its eyes and the way it acted, you could tell that its senses relied on motion alone.

Jimin tensed as the monster slid up the counter and continued searching, getting closer with each second. At one point, the creature was standing right next to him, hissing while sniffing the air. He look at it through the corner of his eye, gulping and trembling.

You saw how close the monster was and tightened your grip on Jimin's arm to reassure him. You knew that as long as neither of you moved, the creature wouldn't try to hurt you both.

However, you did not expect Jimin to suddenly pull himself free from your grasp and bolt across the kitchen, instantly catching the attention of the monster.

"Jimin, no!," You hissed as the creature chased Jimin, tripping on your gown when you tried to follow. Now completely pissed off, you cut your skirt with your sword and finally ran after them. "Why did he have to run, dammit!"

Jimin himself didn't know why but he just couldn't control the urge to run. He always ran. The snake monster was right behind him and it was fast, it didn't help that he was running out of space for running. Now that he thought about it, he made a very stupid decision.

Just like all the other decisions he had made throughout his life.

The monster used its tail to trip Jimin, so he fell on the floor face first, making his nose bleed. He tried to get up but the creature grabbed him by the throat and raised him in the air, its nails digging into the skin of his neck.

Jimin clawed at the hand wrapped his neck as the monster growled at his face, showing off its multiple pointed teeth. He choked, not only because of the stinky breath but also because he was running out of air.

"Let go of him!," You screamed as you jumped and landed on the monster's back, making it drop Jimin, placing the blade of your sword on its neck. "No wonder will die on my watch!"

Jimin only stared, completely frozen as you and the monster struggled. You were frustrated because for some reason, your sword couldn't wound the monster.

"Jimin, get out of here!," You screamed while dodging the monster's claws. "Go—"

You gasped when the monster pierced through your stomach with its tail, making you look down at the blood that was seeping through your purple dress. There was no pain, since the sudden event shocked you. Jimin stared at you and made eye contact, before you collapsed to the ground.

K was still being blocked by Shay, so she couldn't come to your aid. You were bleeding out and there was nothing you could do.

"Sky!," Jimin screamed and attempted to run to your aid, failing when the monster dragged him away by wrapping its tail around his waist. Once again, he was lifted in the air.

You were fighting with your life to keep conscious so that you could watch Jimin and he was begging you to help him through his eyes, but even you knew that there was nothing you could do. You were losing too much blood and was slowly losing consciousness.

And you did.

All of Jimin's hope was lost when he realized that you were unconscious and now nobody was going to help him. The monster tightened its grip on Jimin's waist, the latter squirming, doing his best to free himself but of course, he failed miserably.

The monster opened its mouth — which was unnaturally wide — before lifting Jimin in an upside down position. His stomach turned queasy at the sight of the monster's insides. It was no doubt that he was going to be eaten.

Jimin shut his eyes then a certain memory flashed through his mind.

"You're so pathetic."

Jimin was seventeen when he told Manager Kang the truth about what he really was passionate about in life. Well, it wasn't exactly something he had planned out. He didn't think things through and just told him, since the burden of not being able to tell anyone was slowly eating him inside.

"Do you really think writing will get you anywhere?," Manager Kang — who was not only his manager but also his uncle — snapped and held up Jimin's notebook, which contained drafts of poems and stories. "Think about it."

"Give it back," Jimin seethed and attempted to take back his notebook but Manager Kang used his height to his advantage and held it higher.

"You're a world star, Jimin. What would your fans think when you give up singing just for a paper and pen. Don't be stupid," Manager Kang flipped open the notebook, frowning at the dribbles on every page.

"I said give it back," Jimin snarled, not at all listening to Manager Kang's remarks. He didn't want to say it but he knew that as long as he put his heart into it, he would be successful — after all, that's how he became a famous singer, through his own blood, sweat and tears.

"I didn't agree to your father to take you in only for you to be like this," Manager Kang suddenly tore a page from the notebook, making Jimin freeze. "From a rich singer to a starving writer... It's like the opposite of climbing the social ladder."

But Jimin didn't want to climb the social ladder, he just wanted to be himself. He couldn't move as he watched Manager Kang tear off the pages of his notebook one by one and he felt he was watching his dreams literally get torn apart in front of his very eyes.

Jimin had a strong urge to punch Manager Kang in the face but he wanted to be the better person and remained calm. Instead, he tiptoed until he reached the other's height and spat at his face. "You bastard, what have you done?!"

"I'm putting you back on your right path," Manager Kang tossed the notebook — which was now nothing but torn pages — and crossed his arms over his chest. "Your only path."

"You can't control me. I have my own life."

"No, you don't, Jimin. The moment you signed the contract for the company, you lost control over your own life. You will be a singer and you will always be a singer. I don't want to hear another word regarding your so-called dream."

Once Manager Kang left the room, Jimin crawled to his ruined notebook and tried to salvage at least one of his works but they were all ruined, torn to shreds.

Jimin hugged the pieces of paper and cried. He wondered if it would have made a difference if his parents and brother were still alive. He thought of the same scenario playing out, except that he was talking to his loving father, instead of Manager Kang.

Although Jimin never tried, he thought that his father would act the same way if he ever told him, which was his mistake. He never spoke the truth about himself, even when it was absolutely necessary. Nevertheless, just like the song he wrote himself, he was caught in a lie.

"It's over for me," Jimin sobbed. "I'm a puppeteer that lost its puppet. There's no hope."

In reality, there was, and Jimin finally knew. He had the freedom to make his own decisions and he just needed the courage. Thus, he opened his eyes, becoming face to face with the monster's throat.

Finally, Jimin's gem had been unlocked.

Jimin's eyes turned golden yellow as electricity crackled around his fingers. His whole body surged with power and even the monster itself was taken aback by the sudden change. His gem — which was now the same color as his eyes — glowed as an inscription appeared on its core. Thunder.

With gritted and pointed teeth, Jimin grabbed both sides of the monster's mouth. His nails — which were now claws — dug into the monster's cheeks as it screamed. He conducted electricity all around his body, becoming so hot — literally and not figuratively — that the creature's tail started to sizzle.

"I have the freedom to choose the way I live," Jimin snapped, using his strength from working out to tear the monster's cheeks. His waist was finally released, so he jumped and landed on its face. "I'll show you. I'll show everyone that I'm not a puppet. I'm the master."

Sparks were in the air as Jimin gathered the electricity in his arms. The sleeves of his tuxedo started to burn and even his glasses cracked, but he didn't care. He had to get rid of the monster. He had to get rid of the lie.

"I'm the master!," Jimin screamed one last time before shocking the monster with bolts of electricity, its body burning and convulsing. Soon, the creature's body was nothing more than charred meat.

Jimin stepped down to the floor, regaining his senses and staring at his hands with wide eyes. He slumped to the ground, still processing the fact that everything you said was true. He glanced at his gem, realizing that he really did have powers and he was a wonder.

"Sky! Jimin!," Jungkook flew into the kitchen, making Jimin jump, and landed right next to your unconscious body. His eyes widened and he immediately checked your pulse, releasing a sigh of relief when he found out that you were still alive.

Jimin stared at Jungkook's white-feathered wings. To be honest, after all that happened, he was longer shocked by what he was seeing. "Will she be okay?"

"She will. Jin can definitely heal her... but she lost too much blood, which is why she's unconscious right now," Jungkook picked you up and carried you bridal style, stretching his wings a bit because he was starting to feel strained. He turned towards Jimin, who was still staring at the electricity sparking around him. "Oh, so you bear the thunder gem."

"Yeah... I guess so," Jimin glanced up at Jungkook and saw the light gem, which was hanging from his neck and was glowing white. He glanced back at his gem, everything you said finally making sense to him. "Who's Jin?"

"Another wonder, just like you and I, except that he bears the water gem and I bear the light gem. I'm Jungkook, by the way."

"Jimin. Park Jimin."

"I know. We better get going and let Jin heal Sky. You can help us out, the fight isn't over yet."
