Chapter 4: A Warrior's Test
The Golden Temple in the region of Izuhara has been turned into a haven for the villagers of Tsushima to escape from Mongolian invaders. Here they are being healed by the monks of the Omi Monastery, waiting for any updates regarding Jin Sakai rescuing Lord Shimura, with his allies, and to see if Lord Shimura will ask the Shogun for aid. Here is Lord Sakai, alive and well, to see if the Golden Temple is still standing and if they need any protection. Yet, here he sees Junshin arriving back at the temple with eight mysterious individuals, seven carrying unique-looking blades, and all having a similar headband with a metal plate with 4 small waves as a symbol.
Jin: "Junshin. Are you alright?" He asked the monk.
Junshin: "I'm fine, Lord Sakai. I just went out to gather more supplies for our people. That's where I met these warriors. They have been sent here by the Gods to aid us." He told the Samurai.
Jin looks at Junshin for a bit before turning his gaze to the eight individuals. He can see that they are not samurai, but they could handle fighting one. Lord Sakai looked back at Junshin and nodded his head before returning his gaze to them and greeting them.
Jin: "Greetings. I am Jin Sakai of Clan Sakai. I thank you for protecting Junshin. He is important to keep the people safe from the invaders."
Zabuza: "We weren't protecting him. He just arrived at the wrong time and found us." The Demon of the Mist explains this to Jin.
Mangetsu: "We only escorted him back here cause we were starving for something to eat."
Junshin: "Oh yes. I'll have someone bring you all rice and fish, please excuse me." He bows before leaving to attend his duties.
Jin: "I can tell that you're not a samurai, so who are you?" He asked with his arms crossed.
Kushimaru: "Ha, of course, we're not samurai." He said with a chuckle. "We better than that."
Jin: "Is that so? Then, how did you kill the Mongols?"
Ameyuri: "Ha, those ugly bastards didn't have a chance against us. We just butchered them easily." The wielder of Kiba said with a smirk, showing her sharp teeth.
Jin: "How exactly? Not even the samurai or ronin can handle the Mongols." He informed them.
Kisame: "That's because we're shinobi, friend." The shark-man said with a smile.
Jin: "Shinobi? I have not heard of that?"
Jinpachi: "There's no shinobi here? That makes it better for us." He said with the others agreeing.
Haku: "Lord Sakai, shinobis are warriors that are hidden in the shadows. We're not meant to fight head-on." The androgynous shinobi said concerning the lord.
Jin: "So you fight without honor. Without, looking into your opponent's eye."
Jinin: "Hmph, that's right. Honor doesn't mean anything to a shinobi." The wielder of Kabutowari said. "We are trained to kill our enemies without being seen."
Jin takes a minute to process what he has listened to. These warriors seemed to not have samurai from where they were from. They fight without honor and are trained to kill without their enemies knowing. He needs to take this information to his uncle and the rest of the Samurai to see what they should do.
Jin: "I have a request. I would like for you all to follow me to Castle Kaneda to meet my uncle, Lord Shimura. He is the Jito of Tsushima and he can offer you anything if you help us against the Mongols."
Zabuza: "Hm, and why would we do that? You have nothing to offer us, and considering that we aren't samurai, your lord has no authority over us." He said with his arms crossed.
Jin: "Considering that you have no idea where you are and that you're not a samurai or even ronin, you'll probably be hunted down by the Shogun forces and the Mongols. You will be on the run for a long time."
Mangetsu: "Ha, you don't think we can handle an army. We seven have destroyed towns and nations on our own." He said as he drank from his flask.
Jinin: "Plus, we have faced off against samurai before, boy." He said with a snarl. "It's not a difficult fight we can handle."
Jin: "Then, I proposed a wager. A duel between our blades. If I win, you'll follow me to meet Lord Shimura. If you win, then you can request anything from me."
Kisame: "Hmm, what an interesting proposal. Who wants to handle this duel?" He asked his teammates.
Zabuza: "I'm out on this." He said while rolling his eyes.
Mangetsu: "I'm not feeling it."
Kushimaru: "Too hungry to fight."
Jinpachi: "I don't know fuckin care."
Ameyuri: "I don't want to ruin that handsome face." She said with a smirk.
Jinin: "Just fight him, Kisame." He said with a sigh.
Kisame: "Fine with me." He said with a shrug.
Jin: "We'll duel outside of the temple. Please, follow me." He said as he walked out of the temple with the Mist Shinobis following him.
Lord Sakai has taken the shinobis away from the Golden Temple and into an open area surrounded by the trees, away from the villagers. Both Kisame and Jin head to the middle of the area, a few feet away from each other with hands near the handles. Jin and Kisame are looking at each other, ready to draw their swords. Then at the same time, Jin drew the Sakai Blade and Kisame shunshins in front of Jin and punched him in the stomach. The head of Clan Sakai spits out saliva and a bit of blood as he drops his blade and goes down on one knee he holds his gut in pain.
Jin: "W-What? W- Why didn't you draw your weapon?" He asked while gritting his teeth in pain.
Kisame: "I didn't need to. I can tell how much of a swordsman you are by the look in your eyes. It's a disappointment." He said with a frown.
Jin: "W-What?"
Kisame: "To us, it wasn't a duel, but a test to see what kind of swordsman you are."
Zabuza: "It's atrocious."
Mangetsu: "Yeah man, compared to a low-level shinobi, you are still weak." He said as he drank from his flask.
Kushimaru: "Even someone from our academy can defeat you without difficulty.
Ameyuri: "Yeah sorry handsome, but you're not a swordsman." She said with a shrug.
Jinpachi: "Look samurai, the truth is Kisame could have killed even before you could have drawn your sword."
Jinin: "Exactly. You are still too weak to be considered a warrior."
Jin can only take the insults as he slowly stands. He picks up the Sakai blade and readies his stance. He then raises the blade and charges at Kisame. Only for the Ex-Akatsuki member to hold Jin's hands and kick Jin's chest, making him let go of his katana as he was sent a few feet away in pain. Kisame brings down his leg and picks up the samurai's clan blade.
Kisame: "This sword is very beautiful and pristine. It's potential is wasted on someone like you. You were trained to be samurai, but you have not trained on yourself first." He raised the blade in the sky, gleaming from the sun. "You think you can just wield a sword even with just training with a bokken." He then brings the sword down to him and points at Jin. "You know what I want? I want you to take us to your Jito so we can see if you samurai are true warriors!" He yells as he shows sharp teeth. "Until you can bring it to us, I will keep your blade at all times." He said as he holstered the Sakai Blade underneath Samehada. "Now then, Jin Sakai of Clan Sakai, take us to see your uncle."
Lord Sakai, who has saved his uncle, can only do what the Mist shinobi said as he lost the wager. With utter humiliation and shame.
