(5) The one to truly fear...

"...Sloth...you have a job to do, you can't just keep pushing it off..." a man pointed out, his head bowed lowly in respect.

Yoongi stopped, mid-writing, and looked up very slowly from the parchment on his desk.

The room seemed to have grown infinitely colder just by that one movement.

Without blinking an eye, he placed the pen down and let out a loud sigh, running his finger through his hair languidly.

The man watched, face stuck in utter horror as a trail of cold sweat dripped down his face.

His heart dropped, knowing that he messed up, now that Sloth's attention was on him.

Everyone knew that there was one rule Sloth had and it was to NEVER force him to work.

Yoongi placed his elbows on the desk and placed his chin onto his palms, focusing his gaze straight to the, now, trembling man.

Without uttering a word, he gestured the man to step forward.

The man gulped anxiously but shuffled closer until he was directly in front of his master.

Yoon shifted and studied him impassively. "...Tell me, have I ever failed to complete ANY of my missions in the last hundred of years?" He spoke -his tone carrying a lazy drawl.

Despite the aloof look on his face, no one could miss the increasing amount of killing intent that was radiating from him.

The man shook like a leaf. "N-no Acedia..." he answered back and Yoongi nodded approvingly.

His fingers drummed the table and the man could only watch, completely enraptured as he wondered if he had dodged the bullet.

Clack

Clack

Clack

Cla-

Yoon stopped and his hand shot forward so quickly that if you blinked, you would have completely missed it.

His hand wrapped loosely around the man's neck -not quite grasping yet- and a sharp gasp echoed around the dimly lit room.

Yoon smiled but there was nothing pleasant about it. "Great. I'm glad we understand each other now..." he murmured stoically and the man nodded hastily.

"P-please, Acedia I won't ever question you again" he whimpered while cowering away in fear and Yoongi nodded once more, shooting him an understanding smile but still his hand didn't move.

"You're right, you won't ever do that again..." he said in agreement, making the man sigh in relief and relax.

That is, until Yoon's hand started glowing a dark blue. "...because you won't be able to." he finished with a whisper and then clasped his hand firmly around the man's neck.

A shrill scream tore through the silent night like a knife.

————————————————

"That's the 20th assistant that you've incapacitated this last month alone! You can't keep turning them into motiveless zombies, Sloth!" His only friend, Greed, muttered annoyedly.

Yoon tch'd and cleaned his ear with one finger. "Stop whining. You know I won't have a problem finding another one. I know people who know people that know other people. It won't be difficult to find another man who will eventually piss me off again." He drawled dismissively with a wave of his hand.

Greed shook his head with a sigh.

There was no point in arguing with Sloth. Not only was he the laziest man that Greed knew, but he was also one of the most stubborn too.

It was true though, Sloth had connections with everyone that had a useful skill; He had to in order to stay on top of others -it made up for his laziness.

It was also the reason why nobody questioned his work ethics.

Yoongi was simply a powerful man.

He stopped walking for a second, as if realizing something, and turned with a scowl. "...I thought I told you to stop calling me Sloth...It makes me sound so dreary..." he muttered with a frown and Greed smirked.

"...aaaand that's why I'll keep saying it, Sloth." He responded back cheekily with an amused roll of his eyes.

Yoongi only scowled darkly.

Greed shrugged noncommittally. "Ah, by the way, have you heard about Envy?" He said with a conspiratorial tone and Yoongi paused because he hadn't.

Greed grinned at his reaction. "Ohoho~ so even the well connected Sloth hasn't heard about the biggest news?" He teased but then threw his hands up in a placating manner at the deadly look that was sent his way.

"What happened?" Yoon demanded and Greed sighed, finally turning serious.

"...he's been banished and from what I've heard it's because of a girl..." he answered back with a solemn look.

Neither of the two had ever encountered the youngest member of the Deadly Sins but all of them were connected by their title and so they couldn't ignore such gravitational news.

Actually, now that Yoon thought about it, Envy was the only one out of the 7 that none of them had met and that strangely brought a foreboding feeling for reasons he couldn't explain.

On the other hand, it wasn't exactly his concern so he didn't bother reacting to Greed's answer.

Greed sighed, already used his friend's indifferent personality. "You're just like Pride...all cold and stoic. Lighten up" he muttered jokingly with a pout and Yoongi rolled his eyes.

"Don't compare me to him. You and I both know that he only acts that way because he doesn't want anyone getting close to him after what happened in his other life...I, on the other hand, just don't give a shit." He simply rectified with a yawn and Greed's eye twitched vexedly but he let it go.

The two stopped walking, finally at the end of the hall. "Anyways, I've been thinking again, especially with Envy gone now...is being stuck as a Sin for all eternity the only thing out there for us?..." he questioned wistfully and Yoon froze.

He gave Greed a sharp look. "Don't start. You know there's no escape from this life...I've accepted that years ago and even though I'd drop everything to leave, I also have been doing this longer than you and I know there's nothing we can do about it, so don't bother...you know better than to bring this up again" he berated seriously and Greed sighed.

"Yeah I know. I know...Where you off to anyways?" he asked, quickly steering the conversation away from the forbidden topic.

Yoongi frowned but let it go -for now- and stretched. "I need to check up with the humans again. There seems to be some problems and I need to figure out what it's about..." he finished with a scowl.

"They're probably just slacking off...useless" he added on with a scowl and Greed bursted out into laughter.

"That's rich coming from you Sloth...you off all people put off your work the most..." he pointed out and Yoon didn't even bother arguing. It was too much of a pain in the ass.

Yoongi gave him a side glance. "...don't you have mortals to antagonize and kill?" He asked boredly and Greed scoffed.

He knew a dismissal when he heard one.

Greed crossed his arms. "Whatever Sloth, you can leave now. But for your information, I don't kill any of them" he corrected and Yoongi smirked.

"Right...because making them go insane is any better?" he asked and Greed shrugged noncommittally.

"Isn't it though?" He questioned back innocently and Yoongi shook his head.

"...not quite.." he responded dryly and Greed sighed but nevertheless agreed, muttering a short goodbye.

Yoongi tilted his head -using as little movement as possible- and then vanished, leaving a trail of dark blue smoke behind.

Greed scowled at the empty space, wishing his quirk was the power of teleportation just like Sloth.

Well, he couldn't have everything.

After a couple of seconds he turned, heading back to work. "I'll get out of this life soon. You'll see...Yoongi..." he thought promisingly, finally uttering Sloth's true name.

He then whistled cheerfully as he stalked off, a complete 180 from his solemn thoughts only seconds ago.

Soon...

————————————————

Chim scowled.

You gave him an equally frosty look. "Quit glaring already! You're the one freeloading off of my house! Why should I give this to you?" You argued, the item that Chim wanted weighing heavily in your hand.

He glanced at his nails boredly. "So who's the one helping you save lover boy again?" He retorted smugly, making you clench your fist.

He was right, without his help you may as well call everything off.

Pride had won this round.

With that said, you didn't break eye contact with the infuriating demon as you slammed the carton on the table, making Chim's eyes dance triumphantly.

You turned around and stalked off to the bathroom, in hopes that a shower would help you cool down from the acts of one insufferable man.

Your hand grasped the doorknob loosely and you paused, shooting a childish look towards the kitchen.

"...You were better off when you were unemotional and didn't smile, you ass!" You bellowed loudly but he only hummed gleefully in response.

"...and if you finish my damn milk you're buying the next one!" You added on before finally slamming the door behind you.

Chim whistled happily while pouring the said milk into his 4th bowl of cereal as he continued to ignore you.

————————————————

You ruffle the towel through your wet hair and joined Chim back at the dining table, your mood much better than 7 minutes ago.

Chim was almost finished, his attention elsewhere so you took this moment to study him.

It had been weeks after your risky confrontation with this particular Sin and you were startled by how different he had already become.

Everyday he opened up to you more and you were now starting to see the man who he was before he had become Pride.

Gone was the man who brought fear into people with one cruel stare.

He had been replaced by the cheekiest and most teasing man you've ever had the displeasure of knowing.

You shake your head exasperatedly, somehow reminded of Jungkook in that sense and you realized that there were many questions you had been keeping in the back of your mind.

Now was the perfect time to bring them up.

You leaned forward in your chair. "So how did you become Pride?" You questioned tactlessly.

Chim choked on his food.

After he recovered, he wiped his lips and glanced at you suspiciously.

"...why do you want to know?..." he asked and you frowned slightly, recalling Kook's inability to remember his own past.

You answered Chim honestly.

"...because Kook didn't know how he became Envy so I wanted to hear your story" you answered, making Chim's eyes widen fractionally.

That was odd. He didn't know any of the others who weren't able to remember how they became a part of the Deadly Sins.

He was under the impression that Envy had been the same.

Chim was silent so you kicked his shin under the table and he broke out of his thoughts, shooting you an unamused look.

He let out a weary sigh. "...I was murdered" he finally muttered after a couple of seconds and you froze.

You had an inkling that none of them had an easy past -why would they be chosen as the embodiment of Sins if otherwise?- but you hadn't been expecting that kind of response from him.

It must have been why he was so cold when you first encountered him.

You noticed how uncomfortable he was after he answered your question and you knew it was none of your business to continue pushing him about it.

A smile hastily graced your face. "So can you read minds too?" You question, not missing the flash of relief that crossed his eyes.

He smiled softly and again you were captivated by how drastically one smile could change how Jimin appeared.

His features softened, making him look so innocent. His nose scrunched up at the action and his eyes crinkled as well.

Looks were definitely deceiving.

He chuckled softly, cutting your thoughts off.

"Read minds?" He reiterated with an amused look and you nodded.

"...yeah? Kook was able to read mine so..." you admitted and then you remembered something.

"Oh! And people couldn't see him...which is how we started talking...I, I was the only one who could..." you trailed off sadly at the memories of your past.

Chim watched seriously, unsure of why his heart clenched painfully at the forlorn look on your face.

He ignored it and pushed his bowl away while clearing his throat.

"Ah. Reading minds? That must have been his quirk. It was probably how he could distinguish the people who envied." Jimin explained and your attention was on him again as your brows furrowed.

"Quirk?" You repeated and Chim nodded.

"Yeah, each one of us has a power that comes with the Sin we represent" he clarified and you watched his hand glow purple -the same way it did the first time you had seen him.

He stared at his palms absentmindedly. "The first is our hands; all of us have flames that we use to carry out our missions...When mine manifests and I touch a person, I can break their soul..." he muttered and you gaped, completely enraptured by his explanation.

You remembered how the green flames burned his booklet down but you had no idea about the powers behind them...

"Kook could do this too?..." you thought in shock; he had never mentioned it to you before and now you knew why.

Such power carried so much burden...

Chim's hands went back to normal and you looked him back in the eye. "The second is another form of our power that makes our jobs slightly easier. Envy's was telepathy and mine?" he drawls cunningly with a thoughtful look.

"Why don't I just show you..." he concluded, standing up from his seat.

You watched, curious as to what his quirk was.

He took in a couple of deep breaths and you raised a brow amusedly.

He certainly was putting on quite a show for y-

You cut yourself off as your jaw dropped in disbelief and you blinked furiously.

Had h-he just sprouted...w-wings?

Chim chuckled at your astounded look and stretched his neck -his wings stretching as well.

It had been some time since he last brought them out.

"Y-you're an angel?" You whispered dumbly, finding it hard at that second to breathe.

His lips quirked amusedly and he laughed as he shot you a disbelieving look.

"What? No? I'm a Sin remember? The Angels and the other Demons are on a different department from us. I can just fly" he amended easily, as if talking about angels and demons was of everyday conversation.

Your head spun.

Things were much more supernatural than you realized...

He didn't seem to notice your stupefied state as his wings folded away.

He sat back down and shot you a smirk. "So enough questions now?" He asked and you slowly nodded.

He inhaled deeply, reaching into his pocket to pull out a book. "...well then. Let's begin planning how we'll do this..." he muttered and you straightened your back, pushing aside your shock as you focused on him now.

Yoongi growled.

This was turning out to be more of a pain than he'd initially thought.

It seemed that the turmoil that had been left behind after Jungkook's punishment was the reason why his entire network was breaking down.

His rebellion caused an uproar in their world and even indirectly affected the hierarchy of the humans as well.

Since there was no one here to control people's envy, the human's jealousy had, as of late, been spiraling out of control, causing a lot of the people in his circle to want better things for themselves.

Everything was falling apart and it didn't look like it would be getting better any time soon unless Jungkook magically came back and sorted all his shit out.

Yoongi growled, pressing his palms into his face in growing anger.

He hated problems but what he hated even more than that was not being able to solve them.

If the damn brat hadn't grown a conscience, then Yoongi wouldn't be here trying to get his people to work again nor would he personally be here solving it himself.

He felt signs of a headache incoming. It was just too much work and all he wanted to do was take a nap.

Maybe in his next life he'd be reborn as rock -if he was lucky.

Yoongi clenched his teeth, contemplating what he should do.

After a moment he disappeared as once again a trail of smoke trailing behind him.

He needed a drink
