Chapter Three
Previously...
The servants left one by one leaving Hiram alone. He looked at himself in the mirror. An evil smirk formed on his face, scaring even the mirror in front of him...
Kyrah's kidnapper was handsome. In fact, handsome would be just an understatement. He looked like a Greek God. His light blue eyes were the first thing you would notice, holding mysteries within them.
His face was of a serious type, his jaw stiff and his faced lined with a soft stubble. His pink lips were soft and plump. He was muscular, but lean.
He noticed the unconscious princess with worry etching his fine features. He bent down to touch her hurt leg. With a handy first-aid kit, he quickly began nursing her wound.
He couldn't let anything happen to her, he thought.
His gaze shifted at her face, marveling her beautiful features.
She looks like an angel, he thought, touching her long eyelashes.
He carried her gently, shifting her from the hard cold floor to the warm bed, tucking her in. He gave her one last look.
"Good night, Kyrah," he murmured softly.
***
"Kyrah," someone hissed in Kyrah's ear. She screamed clutching the blanket with fear.
"Who is there? Please don't hurt me," she begged.
"Kyrah."
She jumped out of the bed and ran around the house, looking for an exit.
"You cannot escape..."
A pair of bright green eyes shone against the darkness. Slowly, they were moving towards her.
Her shriek deafened even the still silence. Running was of no use now. Her end was near. She thought of her beloved parents, her sweet uncle Hiram, and all the people she knew for the last time.
The pair of eyes belonged to a slender brown body, to a snake from an earthy corner of the world.
"I will be waiting for you princess," it hissed, revealing its forked pink tongue and vanished mysteriously.
Kyrah woke up with a start. Beads of sweat rolled from her forehead. She looked around searching for the monster she had seen just a minute ago.
"Shh! Calm down, it's just a dream, you are safe," she said, patting her cheeks with shaky hands.
But, consoling herself was of no use, she was terrified. She had never had nightmares before, until now. She cried her heart out, feeling utterly alone and helpless.
"Where are you mother and father? Take me home!" she said as she sobbed.
***
A splash of cold water hit her the next morning. She got up hurriedly, shaking her head at the sudden impact. She shuddered and goosebumps arose on her supple skin.
"Is this the way to wake somebody up?" she groaned, her teeth clenched and her eyes burned due to sleeplessness.
"I only know this way, to wake up sleepy heads like you," her kidnapper replied coldly.
Kyrah rubbed her eyes to look around properly. She noticed the man standing in front of her and stared wide-eyed, taking in his appearance.
"You are so handsome, how can you be a kidnapper?"
"That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard," he said scornfully.
He couldn't let her ask more questions, he thought.
"You didn't tell me your name Mr. Kidnapper," Kyrah said, brushing off his comment.
"Zuber."
"What does it mean?" she inquired.
He chose not to answer her.
"Where am I? How long will I stay here? Why am I here in the first place? Take me home now!" she yelled.
Zuber clamped her mouth, glaring at her. "Yelling won't get you anywhere. Don't get on my nerves, princess, and you will stay safe."
The princess sat dumbfoundedly. A tear escaped from her eye. She brushed it off angrily, scowling at him.
"You may want to clean yourself," he said, pointing to a small wooden door.
"Breakfast is kept on that table, make yourself comfortable," he added.
"I am not hungry!" she scowled, folding her arms over her chest.
But her rumbling stomach said another story.
"Don't trouble your tummy by being angry," he said calmly.
"One more thing," he paused, "don't even try to find an exit, there isn't any for you, princess." Saying this, he left her alone, exiting the cottage from the main door. The door was then locked from the outside.
"Don't call me princess," she yelled, hoping it would be loud enough for him to hear.
"That was weird," she said loudly. She got up from the bed, stretching her sore muscles. Her eyes fell on her bandaged leg.
"This is new, why would he do this for me? He is so mean," she said with a frown.
She entered the bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror.
"Goodness," she said, her mouth forming a big O.
Her golden hair was tousled, making it look like a bird's nest. Her blue eyes were red and puffy from crying, her cheeks stained with dry tears. She looked like a mess. Cleaning herself up quickly, she took her torn gown and folded it neatly. Wrapping a towel around herself, she looked around the house for some clothes.
Her eyes fell upon a closet.
"Open me when you need clothes," she read aloud, taking the sticky note in her hand.
"May be Mr. Meanie isn't such a meanie after all," she said while opening the closet.
"Everything is pink, yuck!" she exclaimed, her face scrunched up in disgust. "He must have done this on purpose. No, but I never told him that I hate pink!"
"I dont want to wear pink," she whined.
"Well you can't stay in a towel whole day," a voice hissed.
"Huh? Who's there?" Kyrah asked fearfully.
The house was in a pin-drop silence.
"Maybe I am just imagining things."
She threw on some random, pink pajamas, making a face.
Her stomach rumbled loudly. She stared at the magnificent meal served on the table. Unable to decide what to eat first, she grabbed a sandwich and munched on hungrily, savoring the delicious taste.
"Impossible! How can he cook so well?" she moaned, licking her fingers hungrily.
After a while, she sighed contentedly.
"You are safe now tummy!" she giggled to herself.
Her eyes felt heavy, her eyelids closing off on their own. She let out a large yawn. She sprawled out on the floor with sleep beckoning her name.
***
"Kyrah! What's wrong? What happened?" Zuber asked, holding her by her arms as he shook her.
He had come back home and the first thing he saw was Kyrah sitting on the floor clutching herself, fear evident in her teary eyes.
"Say something!" he asked frantically.
