Training with Nagisa was nothing short of hell, Miki decided. They were incredibly grateful for the help, don't get them wrong, but they certainly were going to complain about it.
Nagisa had given Miki a whole slew of preliminary tests to gauge their skills, some of which Miki never even thought had anything to do with assassination, but they weren't going to tell the literal best assassin that. Nagisa had decided that while Miki was very agile and had amazing aim with many different weapons, along with a pretty good knowledge of fatal points on the body, they really needed to work on stealth and hand to hand combat without their spider assets. Those were another thing Nagisa decided Miki could work on, as for now it appeared Miki had decided one use for each of their hybrid parts, something Nagisa vehemently disagreed with, claiming with physical hybridization like Miki's, each part had millions of uses and, just like a knife could be used for cutting or stabbing, Miki needed to know more than just one.
Miki agreed with the thought, but man if it wasn't tiring. What was even worse was the hand-to-hand training.
Nagisa certainly didn't look it but the man packed a punch. Miki already knew they would have bruises for weeks but it was worth it for the tutelage of the master assassin, who technically was still his boss. Nagisa's organization worked in the dark, and due to the nature of assassins most of them worked on their own most of the time, but nobody was under any delusions that they were their own boss. Nagisa had tight reins around every assassin's neck, dangling knowledge that could ruin them in front of their face to keep them obedient--and it worked. Well.
Miki shuddered as they thought about the last time someone tried to rebel against Nagisa, trying to take the title of the God of Death.
It was a display of power Miki didn't have any interest in seeing again, that's for sure. They were glad they were on Nagisa's side and not trying to kill the God. The power Nagisa held, the grace, Miki couldn't believe it. It was beautiful, divine; fitting his title well.
The living room was quiet, the only noise being the soft chirping of birds outside, the Akabane manor being much to far from the bustling city for any noises to reach. Miki sighed as they sat down, greedily drinking a glass of water. Misui, sitting on one of the many armchairs, chuckled.
"Is Nagisa working you hard?" She asked, smiling over the book in her hands.
Miki rolled their eyes as they bonelessly threw themselves down onto the couch, body language loudly displaying the sentiment of 'what do you think?'
"Karma told me you two would be working on hand-to-hand combat today, I wasn't expecting you to be this tired. Nagisa is very powerful but he's never been physically the strongest." Misui shrugged.
Miki sat up stick straight, glaring at the girl with all their might. "What would you know about Nagisa-sama? He's more powerful than you could ever dream of being and you should respect how easily he could kill everyone in this house without a thought."
Misui jolted back, eyes wide at the sudden harshness of Miki's tone. "Calm down Miki-kun, I'm not trying to--"
"It doesn't matter what you're trying to do!" Miki snapped. "Nagisa-sama doesn't deserve any criticisms from someone as weak as you! You're lucky he even lets you live!"
Without another word, Miki stormed out of the room, leaving Misui shocked and confused.
-time skip-
It was just around dinnertime when Yumi showed up at the Akabane mansion. Misui greeted her in the same way she always had yet, Yumi felt something was off. She wasn't as chipper. She decided to wait until after dinner to talk to her, no need to ruin the mood.
"Ah Yumi-chan, perfect. Dinner is just about done," called Karma from the kitchen, she acknowledged him and proceeded to go to her and Misui's room. Once she was changed she returned only to see that her usual seat by Nagisa was taken by some stranger. Her confusion must have shown because Nagisa smiled and quickly introduced the stranger.
"This is Kumoko Miki, they will be staying with us while I train him."
Yumi smiled.
"Very nice to meet you Miki-san. I hope we can get along." she gave a polite bow and joined Misui across from Miki and Nagisa
"Its nice to meet you too Yumi-san. Nagisa-sama has many good things to say about you. And please call me Mikkun, -san is too formal." Yumi noticed Nagisa and Misui flinch at the use of -sama but she brushed it off.
