2.) The Quest for Decent Food

Alright, so I wanted to put up a new chapter of something on Halloween, but this is the only one finished.

Happy Halloween to the two people who read this!

Sonic led them all to a cute, little shack. He knocked on the door and the pink hedgehog opened the door.

“Oh, hey, Sonic. What mess did you get into this time.” She crossed her arms and leaned against the doorway, unamused.

“Remember those humans that came here all of those years ago, before Shadow and I got together?” Sonic asked.

“I’ve suppressed all of those memories from my past. Can’t believe I use to like you.”

Sonic smiled awkwardly. “Haha, yeah…. Well, could you watch their kids for us?”

Amy peeked behind the hedgehog, seeing the three human children. “Aw, of course, Sonic! Sticks is coming over soon, so it really shouldn’t be such a problem.”

“Great! Thanks, Ames!”

“Do you have a place I can put this one down?” Marklin asked.

“Of course!” Amy smiled, leading them inside. She gestured to her couch.

Marklin laid down the sleeping toddler gently, planting a kiss on the child's forehead.

Amy smiled, and was about to say something before a badger walked in, looked at the humans, and said, “I told you aliens were real!”

“Sticks, they aren’t aliens, they’re hu-”

“I’m not falling for your mind tricks! You’re under mind control, aren’t you!?”

“Sticks, calm down.” Amy tried.

“I’ll go get my alien destruction device!” she yelled before running off.

Amy looked back to the group. “I’ll explain it to her when she gets back.”

“It’s fine as long as she doesn’t dissect a kid.” Jasper sighed.

“Don’t worry, she’ll probably stop if I explain.” Amy smiled.

“Now, let’s go on an adventure!” Sonic smiled.

“Alright- Wait.” Marklin took a count of the kids. “Wasn’t Eden with us?”

“We dropped him off at the Library right?” Jasper asked.

“That was our next stop after lunch.” Marklin pailed.

“So there’s another one on the loose?” Shadow groaned.

“Uh, guys?” They turned their attention to a rather large echidna carrying a human child upside down. “I found this at my workout bench, and I have no idea what it is.”

“Uh, Knuckles?” Sonic blinked. “That’s a human child, and I don’t think you should be holding it upside down.”

“MOM!” Eden cried out, he was having a bad panic attack, “It’s touching me!”

“And it won’t stop crying!” Knuckles groaned. “What did I do wrong!?”

“I’d just put him down.” Marklin said quickly. Knuckles shrugged and put the child down. Eden curled up on the floor and kept sobbing.

“I. Want. To. Go. Home.” Eden cried, Marklin knelt next to his child.

“When we get home I’ll let you clean all you want, now come on, calm down, and I’ll make sure dinner runs as normal as I can make it.” Marklin cooed, Edens crying calmed suddenly.

“Ok.” Eden said, his voice rough but himself nonetheless.

“Sorry about Knuckles.” Sonic smiled to the child. “He can be a bit dense at times.”

Eden just stared at Sonic, then nodded. Sonic felt a bit awkward but kept his smile anyways. He then looked to Amy. “You okay with taking care of one more?”

“Of course.” Amy smiled gently.

“If he cleans I’m sorry.” Marklin apologized in advance as he stood with Eden.

“Oh, I’m sure it’ll be fine.” Amy smiled.

“It should be.” Jasper said, he glared at Marklin. “Eden should be better than he used to be.”

“Alright!” Sonic smiled, not wanting to go into another awkward moment. “Let’s go have an adventure!”

“Oh great.” Jasper sighed heavily.

“What is it with their sudden appearance that makes you so hyper all of a sudden?” Shadow asked.

Sonic simply shrugged. “They just kinda remind me of the old days, I guess.”

“Ahh, the old days, before-” Marklin sighed.

“Oh shut up.” Jasper snapped.

Sonic groaned, not liking how awkward they made things, but instantly ran outside, not grabbing Marklin surprisingly, and calling, “Come on! Let’s go!”

Marklin and Jasper followed, both tired already. Shadow walked out, closing the door behind him, and following behind. Sonic adjusted his bandana. “So, uh, I actually have no idea what to do…. There isn’t really much to do on the island…. Normally something just happens by chance, and it’s typically a mediocre 11 minute adventure.”

“Oh good, no apocalypse.” Jasper sighed.

“Yeah, no apocalypse.” Shadow confirmed.

“We could find a decent restaurant.” Marklin sneered.

Sonic started laughing. “Decent restaurant in Bygone Island! That’s hilarious!”

“So, no one cooks, no good restaurants, how are you alive.” Marklin squacked.

Sonic shrugged. “Your guess is as good as mine.”

“Do you have a market?” Marklin asked. “Can you even buy ingredients?”

“Yes, we do have a market.” Sonic nodded.

“It’s run by a sarcastic asshole who also works for the mayor.” Shadow crossed his arms.

“Of course, maybe our adventure can be an edible meal.” Marklin growled.

“Better than nothing.” Shadow shrugged. Sonic nodded in agreement.

“To the market then, I hope one of you’s has a kitchen.” Marklin sighed.

“He doesn’t even have a door.” Shadow said before walking towards the market.

“Why does that not surprise me.” Jasper exasperated, dragging Marklin by the arm as he followed Shadow.

Sonic shrugged, following behind. “I don’t get paid enough to save anyone, I guess.”

They soon found themselves in a very small market with a bat eared fox looking like he was about to actually die of boredom behind the stand.

“So, fox, what do you have fresh?” Marklin ask.

“Everything but my life.” The fox grunted, glaring at the group.

“What do you have for meat then?” Marklin asked, as he saw mostly only produce.

The fox eyed the other up and down before replying, “No. It doesn’t look like you have any meat either.”

Marklin almost died. “Honey, that’s not important for where I enjoy my fun.” Marklin started to pick out some produce.

The fox rolled his eyes, watching the other tiredly. He then proceeded to pull out a piece of cake out of nowhere, and began eating it.

“Seems you have plenty to eat at night then, how much for the lame edibles?” Marklin asked.

“Probably about as much as you can take.” the fox said in between bites. “20 rings.”

“Sweetheart I can take quite a lot.” Marklin looked at Sonic and Shadow. “Whats a ring?”

“1. I can’t believe that just happened.” Sonic blinked. “2. These are rings.” he pulled 20 out of nowhere, putting them on the counter. The fox grabbed them and they dispersed into glitter.

“That’s better than my old show-” Jasper elbowed Marklin in the ribs again, Marklin collapsed again, but saved the food.

The fox crossed his arms. “Don’t die in my store. I need money to live, and my boss isn’t going to like a dead person near the produce.”

“Yet he hires an over sized rat to look over it.” Marklin groaned as he stood back up.

The fox looked unamused. “If I had a nickle for everytime I’ve heard that, I wouldn’t have to work here. Your opinion doesn’t matter.”

“At least if you didn’t work here we wouldn’t have to look at your ugly face.” Marklin spat.

“Wow. Pulling the ugly card.” The fox rolled his eyes. “So creative.”

“At-” Jasper grabbed Marklin by the ear and walked out of the market.

“Smell ya later, grandpa.” the fox said as they walked out.

“That all you got hang glider!” Marklin snapped.

“Fuck you!”

“Well that just happened.” Sonic blinked.

“Is there anywhere to buy meat?” Marklin asked as he rubbed his ear.

Sonic thought for a moment before shaking his head. “As far as I know, no.”

“Alright then.” Marklin sighed.

Sonic shrugged. “Even Meh Burger doesn’t have meat.”

“Well, if we are done shopping, we better find a kitchen.” Jasper sighed.

“Amy has one.” Sonic said.

“Back to Amy’s then.” Marklin sighed.

“Yep.” Sonic nodded, and they all walked back to Amy’s. He knocked on the door and Amy opened it almost immediately, and let them in.

“Were the kids good?” Jasper asked.

Amy paused for a second before replying. “Sure.”

“Well, If you don’t mind, I have some things to make dinner, if I can borrow your kitchen?” Marklin asked.

“Of course.” Amy smiled and gestured towards her kitchen.

“Thank you.” Marklin said quickly, he grabbed Eden by the sleeve as he walked past the boy adjusting the pillows on the couch and dragged him to the kitchen with him.

“Wow, Ames, the place looks so neat.” Sonic whistled.

“Heh….” Amy smiled nervously. “Yep….”

“Eden cleaned, Eden cleaned-”

“Shut up!” Eden yelled from the kitchen to his chanting younger siblings.

Shadow tiredly sat down on the couch, Sonic sitting right beside him.

“So Amy, how where the kids, really.” Jasper asked.

“I mean, they weren’t bad by all means.” Amy smiled. “They were just a bit… much….”

“Of course.” Jasper sighed.

“At least the place is clean though.” She smiled as she sat on the couch. Meanwhile, Shadow fell asleep. Jasper sat next to the couch, and sighed.

“Yeah, it is.” Jasper said with a bit of his soul gone.

Sonic smiled and hugged his sleeping boyfriend.

“Well, everyone seems to be getting along well now.”  Jasper said quickly. The others nodded.

Sonic looked like he wanted to say something, but didn’t know how. Finally, he sighed. “Hey, Jasper?”

“Yeah?” Jasper replied.

“How is it like, raising children?”

“Hell, on earth at least.” Jasper sighed. “It’s fulfilling, but greats on everything.”

Sonic simply nodded. “Oh….” He bit his lip nervously.

“I mean, it’s not the worst thing, but like, if you're not ready you end up with a shitty counselor and a divide on how to raise your kids, be sure you ready for hell, not just prepared.” Jasper sighed.

Sonic nodded. “I’ve been wanting to talk to Shadow about having kids, but he always finds a way to change the subject. I mean, I don’t want kids now, but I do want to know how Shadow actually feels about them….”

“Just sit him down, and be direct.” Jasper told.

Sonic took a deep breath and nodded, looking to the sleeping hedgehog with a sigh. “Oh, and, uh, one last question….”

“Yeah?” Jasper sighed.

“How’s the best way to propose?”

“Mark proposed with desert and a promise of not being a whore, so like, do something he loves and make him an impossible promise, it was very moving.” Jasper leaned back and smiled a small bit.

Sonic nodded and smiled. “Okay. Thanks, Jasper.”

“No problem.”

Sonic looked to Shadow, kissing his forehead gently; Shadow curled up in his sleep.

Jasper hummed a bit as he sat, thinking about how his and Marklins relationship had been previously. The kids squealed as they messed about. Sonic smiled as he watched the kids. There was a yell from the kitchen but it quickly subsided.

Sonic's ear twitched as he looked towards the kitchen. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah!” Marklin called, there was a quick series of bangs but everything subsided again. Sonic looked to Jasper with a questioning glance.

“Small kitchen and a kid his size I’m guessing.” Jasper spat.

Sonic simply nodded before looking away and asking, “What happened to you two? You use to be at least somewhat happy, but now….”

“I-, Maybe-... I don’t know.” Jasper muttered.

Sonic’s ears flattened to his head. “What changed?”

“Kids, stress levels, jobs… You know, what normally splits up people.” Jasper thought, “Maybe we wouldn’t be like this if he wasn’t a whore.”

Sonic looked to Jasper. “You two really seemed like you worked for each other though.”

“Yeah, thought.” Jasper spat.

“Wait, wasn’t he the nice otter boy that saved your ass?” Amy questioned, crossing her arms.

“Amy! We’re suppose to be a kids show!” Sonic briefly scolded.

“They’ve heard worse.” Jasper sighed, not catching the fourth wall.

The two blinked, glancing at Jasper, but Sonic moved on. “Yes, he is the otter that helped us save the world last story.”

“That was a long time ago.” Jasper sneered

“Not according to the fans.” Sonic winked to the invisible wall that inexplicably shattered. Jasper glanced to where sonic winked but saw nothing and let it go.

“Screaming readers aside, why are you still with him if you two act like that?” Sonic got off the topic as well, preferring to go back to the original topic.

“We have kids, and we never see eachother anymore for long enough for fighting like this.” Jasper sighed.

“Well, I know how to fix that!” Amy smiled, nudging herself in between the human and hedgehog. “You two need to communicate how you feel with each other.”

Shadow woke up, due to the persistent female, and mumbled a tired, “Don’t budge into other people’s business.”

“Oh enough people already try and budge in, what makes a difference with this one, do as you feel oh pink one.” Jasper mumbled.

Amy smiled confidently. “Sonic and Shadow can go out and watch the kids while we solve these issues.”

“Watching kids….” Shadow drowsily looked to Sonic. “Don’t let your friend do this.”

Sonic shrugged. “I don’t see the harm in it.”

“I do.” He grumbled back.

“Well I don’t so-”

“Foods up.” Marklin barked

“We’ll do this after food.” Sonic quickly said.
