Chapter 4

Narrator POV

Izuku was slumped in his seat, going in and out from consciousness. The bus was crowded and the air was thick with the sweat and breath of his classmates. The constant sound of Bakugo's voice made his head throb even more. Izuku closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. The sensation of the spider bite was now spreading up his arm, and he could feel his heart racing. He wondered if he should say something to the teacher, but he didn't want to make a scene. The bus ride felt like it was taking forever, and Izuku couldn't wait to get off and be in the comfort of his own home.

As the bus pulled into the school parking lot, Izuku felt a sense of relief that the field trip was over. Students were getting off the bus in an disorderly manner. Izuku decided to wait until everyone got off so he doesn't have to deal with the awkward situation of 'oh are you getting off? Do I go first or are you going first? You know what, let's just both go at the same time and crash into each other' As Izuku saw that basically everyone left Izuku slowly gathered his belongings. He was taking longer than usual due to him being lost in thought after the field trip to the science exhibit. As he was about to leave his seat, he heard the engine roar.

"Wa-wait! Stop the bus!" Izuku shouted, making his way towards the driver's seat. "I'm still on here!"

The bus driver glanced back at him "What the hell, kid? You should have gotten off with everyone else! You're holding up my schedule."

"I'm sorry, I-i-i didn't mean to hold you up," Izuku said "I just got lost in thought...."

"It's fine. Just hurry up and get off already. I've got places to be, you know." the bus driver grumbled, slamming on the brakes and opening the door for Izuku to get off.

"Thanks" Izuku said.

As Izuku got off the bus, Izuku could feel his face turning red as he heard the people snickering behind him. He didn't understand why they found it so amusing. It wasn't his fault that the bus driver almost kidnapped him basically. Not wanting to be there anymore and just wanting to go to class and lay his head down. He kept his head down and quickened his pace.

(Imagine he's wearing his glasses)

Izuku dragged his tired feet across the school hallway, he could still feel the effects of the spider bite. Izuku decided to just push through and get to class putting himself on autopilot mode just mindlessly going to class. Finally, he reached the 900 hallway where his classroom was located. The sight of the door brought him a sense of relief and a wave of despair all at once. But just as he was heading to his classroom, Uraraka called out to him.

"Hey Midoriya, did you manage to snap some photos of the exhibit?" Uraraka chirped with her usual cheerful tone while making a camera gesture with her hands.

"Y-yeah," stammered Izuku, his voice barely above a whisper. "I-I managed to take a picture of everything, every single thing. Even the outside of the building, and, uh, a picture of Dr. Connors... and, uh, a picture with a s-student in it." He fidgeted with his hands nervously, feeling like he had said too much or not enough.

"That's awesome, Midoriya! I knew you wouldn't miss a thing," Uraraka exclaimed with a grin. "But, hey, did you manage to get a group photo of everyone too? It would look great as the front cover of the article were writing about of the trip"

As Uraraka asked about a group photo, Izuku's eyes widened in realization. 'shit, how did I not think of that? I always take group photos but I somehow managed to forget about it,' Izuku thought. Uraraka could sense Izuku's disappointment and decided to move on.

"Hey, don't sweat it Midoriya," Uraraka said reassuringly, sensing his disappointment. "We can use the Oscorp building for the front cover instead, I think it looks much cooler. just send me the photos through my email, okay?"

Izuku nodded gratefully, feeling relieved that Uraraka was understanding about his forgetfulness. He watched as she waved goodbye and made her way to her own class. Izuku sighed making his way to his classroom and took his usual seat, feeling a sense of exhaustion wash over him. As he lay his head down on his desk, he couldn't help but feel a pair of eyes staring at him.

He slightly glanced up and saw Kyoka looking at him, her earphone jacks connected to her phone and her face unreadable. For a moment, Izuku's heart raced with the thought that maybe Kyoka had noticed him. But he quickly dismissed it as wishful thinking and closed his eyes, trying to clear his head. Before he knew it, he had fallen asleep.

Timeskip

Izuku's eyes slowly opened as he felt a gentle touch on his shoulder. He blinked a few times and rubbed his eyes, trying to clear his vision. As he adjusted to the dimly lit room, he realized that he had fallen asleep in his classroom.

"Hey, are you awake?" a soft voice asked. Izuku turned his head to see Kyoka Jiro next to him, her guitar case resting beside her.

(I'm her middle school outfit)

"Jiro?" Izuku rubbed his eyes again, feeling a bit disoriented. "What time is it?" he said while looking around the room and realizing that they were the only students left.

"It's pretty late," she said, glancing at her phone. "Your phone has been buzzing nonstop. You might want to check it," Kyoka said, pointing at Izuku's phone

Izuku's heart sank as he saw the time on his phone. It was way past school hours, and he had missed multiple calls and messages from his mother. "Oh no, I completely lost track of time," he muttered, feeling guilty for causing his mother to worry.

As he looked at his phone, he noticed something odd. It wasn't in his pocket where he usually kept it, but on his desk. "Wait, why is my phone here?" he wondered aloud.

Kyoka shrugged. "Beats me. Maybe you took it out and forgot about it when you fell asleep," she suggested.

Izuku decided to ignore the mystery of his phone's placement and focus on the urgent matter at hand. "I-i-i-i need to go home," he said, his voice laced with panic. "My mom must be worried sick by now."

Izuku grabbed his backpack and stood up. However, as he took a step forward, his legs wobbled and he stumbled.

Kyoka caught him by the arm. "Whoa, dude, are you okay? You're sweating a shit ton."

Izuku's face felt like it was on fire as he realized how drenched he was in sweat. He tried to shake it off, but his head was pounding and his vision was blurry.

"I'm fine, I uh" he said "Just feel a little dizzy." while fixing his glasses

Kyoka didn't buy it. "Alright I'm taking you to the nurse's office," she said firmly, grabbing her guitar case and standing up. "Come on, let's go."Izuku tried to protest, but Kyoka was already pulling him along.

Small timeskip

As they reached the nurse's office, Kyoka gently knocked on the door and called out for the nurse. After a moment, the door opened, and the nurse peered out.

"Can I help you?" the nurse asked, looking at the two students.

"Midoriya needs to rest," Kyoka explained.

"What's wrong with him" The nurse asked

Kyoka raised an eyebrow and glanced over at Izuku, who was slumped against the wall looking pale and tired. "I mean look at him, he looks like he's about to die," she said to the nurse as she helped Izuku into the room

She sat down Izuku on a bench. The nurse checked Izuku's temperature and found that he had a fever. She instructed him to lie down and rest, and gave him an ice pack to cool his forehead. She also offered him some crackers and a glass of water to keep him hydrated.

Small small timeskip

"Um, thanks for coming with me," Izuku said while changing his position to sit up, his voice barely above a whisper. He cleared his throat and tried again. "I mean, thank you for coming with me. I-i-i- uh really appreciate it."

Kyoka looked over at Izuku and gave him a reassuring smile. "Don't worry about it" she said, twirling her earphone jack around her finger. "You would have done the same for me, right?" Izuku responded with a nod.

As Izuku sat in the nurse's office, he felt a strange sensation coursing through his body. It was as though his muscles were on fire, and his mind was racing with thoughts of what could've caused it. He couldn't wait to go home and rest, but something about the situation felt awkward. He fidgeted in his seat, unsure of what to say to Kyoka who was right next to him.

Kyoka, who had been sitting next to him in silence, seemed to sense his discomfort. "Are you okay, Midoriya?" she asked, breaking the silence.

Izuku nodded, but couldn't bring himself to meet her gaze. He was too embarrassed to admit the real reason for his discomfort. Instead, he decided to change the topic.

"So why are you still at school?" he asked

Kyoka just shrugged, seemingly indifferent to the question. "I don't really have anywhere else to go. Plus, I like hanging around here" she said blandly.

Izuku didn't press the issue any further, sensing that Kyoka didn't want to talk about it. He then tried to change the subject again.

"H-How do you know my name?" Izuku curiously asked. "Not that I'm weirded out or anything," he added quickly, as if trying to reassure Kyoka that he wasn't being rude. "But we haven't really talked until now."

Kyoka couldn't resist a playful smile as she replied, "I don't know, maybe because we've been in the same class our whole middle school year."

"You know I could ask that same question to you," she added, raising an eyebrow "How do you know name?"

Izuku shifted nervously in his seat, hoping that something would happen to get him out of the awkward situation. Kyoka had just asked him how he knew her name, and he wasn't quite sure how to answer.

Izuku's POV

God please help me. I can't just tell her how I know. I can't just be like oh I've had a crush on you for a while and i would wait for you to write your name down on the attendance sheet to see what your name was. Also I would take pictures of you and have them as my background of my laptop.

Narrator POV

Kyoka raised an eyebrow as she waited for Izuku's response. "Well?" she prompted.

Izuku swallowed hard and tried to think of something to say. "Um, well..." he began, his voice shaking slightly. "I-i-i guess I just...heard your name from other people in the class." He winced inwardly at the lame excuse he gave.

Kyoka looked at him skeptically. "Really?" she said. "I find that hard to believe. I'm not exactly the most popular person in class."

"No, it's not like that," he said quickly. "I-" Just then, the nurse returned to the room to check on Izuku and told him he's all good and able to leave if he pleases.

As the nurse left for her office, Izuku felt a sense of relief wash over him. He stood up and began gathering his things, grateful that the awkward conversation with Kyoka was over. He turned to leave, but was surprised to see that Kyoka was also getting up from her chair.

"Um, are you leaving too?" he asked, feeling a sense of nervousness creeping back into his stomach.

Kyoka nodded. "Yeah, I also have to go back home," she said, grabbing her guitar case.

Izuku was yet again in an awkward situation with Kyoka. Both of them walked side by side to the front of the school. Izuku felt a twinge of nervousness as he walked alongside Kyoka. They had barely spoken since leaving the nurse's office, but the silence between them felt surprisingly comfortable. It was a different kind of silence than the ones he was used to around someone like Bakugo, which was often filled with tension and anger.

As they arrived at the front of the school, Izuku stopped and turned to Kyoka, feeling a sudden urge to say something.

"T-thank you again for helping me out, Jiro. I really appreciate it." Izuku said.

Kyoka flashed a small smile at Izuku and said, "Yeah, no problem. Smell you later." She gave a wave and turned to go, leaving Izuku wondering where she was headed.

As Izuku continued to walk away from Kyoka, her parting words echoed in his mind. "Smell?" he thought to himself, feeling a little confused by her choice of words. He couldn't help but replay their brief conversation in his head, wondering if he had missed something important. Did he smell?

Making his way to the train station he couldn't shake off the feeling of regret. He wished he had talked more with her, and asked her about her hobbies and interests. Anything to get to know her better. At the same time, however, a sense of danger started to creep in. It was a feeling that he couldn't explain, but it made him feel uneasy. Izuku tried to shake off the feeling, but it lingered, making him feel like something bad was going to happen. He quickened his pace, hoping to get home as soon as possible.
