Chapter 13
Narrator POV
The next day at school, Izuku's heart pounded with anticipation as he walked down the hallway towards his classroom. He took deep breaths, trying to calm himself as he repeated some encouraging words, "You got this, you got this," over and over in his mind. He knew he had to talk with Kyoka again, but his nerves threatened to get the better of him. He doesn't even know why he's scared, they are officially friends so it shouldn't be awkward right?
As Izuku entered the classroom, his eyes immediately sought out Kyoka, who was sitting at her desk, engrossed in her music. He hesitated for a moment, his palms growing sweaty. Summoning all his courage, he walked over to his desk and turned himself to face her. His hand waved nervously as he called out, "H-Hi, Jiro."
Kyoka looked up from her phone, her face lighting up with a small smile. "Hey, Midoriya! What's up?" She greeted him warmly. Izuku shrugged, his nervousness making his words stumble.
"Ummmm, nothing much. How a-about you?" he managed to say, his voice slightly wavering. He mentally scolded himself for not sounding more confident.
"I'm doing pretty good," Kyoka replied, tucking her phone away. "Just listening to some music before class starts." seeming genuinely engaged in the conversation.
Curiosity sparked within Izuku, and he seized the opportunity to learn more about her. "What kind of music do you like?" he asked, being interested in her tastes.
A grin appeared on Kyoka's lips as she leaned back in her chair. "I like rock, metal, and any other genres similar to those," she answered, her enthusiasm evident. "I'm really into this band called Deep Dope, have you heard of them before?."
Izuku's eyes widened a bit, feeling a pang of embarrassment. "O-oh I ummm, I've never heard of them," he admitted sheepishly.
Kyoka's eyes widened in mock disbelief. "You suuuuuckkkkk," she teased, shaking her head playfully. She then took out her phone and showed him the screen, displaying the band's name and a song recommendation. "You should listen to this song. It's one of their best."
Izuku nodded eagerly. He reached for his own phone and quickly searched for the song Kyoka recommended. His fingers trembled slightly as he found it and he muttered, "I'll listen to it later."
Kyoka's smile widened, and then she gave him a serious look. "You better," she said with a playful tone.
As their conversation continued, Izuku and Kyoka found themselves sharing more about their lives, opening up to each other like two puzzle pieces fitting perfectly together. The topics shifted to their favorite foods.
Kyoka exclaimed, "I really fuck with fried chicken and pizza, they just hit different, you know?" Izuku chuckled, nodding in agreement."Oh, d-definitely! Katsudon is my weakness. It's just really r-really good."
Kyoka grinned. "We both picked savory foods," she said. "You know what? I think I prefer savory foods over sweets. They just have this satisfying and fulfilling quality that's hard to beat. Like, why would you pick an ice cream cone over a nice, cheesy slice of pizza?"." Izuku let out a small smile and said "Y-Yeah but ice cream is s-still good"
Kyoka waved her hands around saying "Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy a scoop of ice cream once in a while, but when it comes to choosing, savory foods are on top. No ice cream, chocolate, or candy can beat a nice burger." Izuku nodded his head but then had a surprisingly good question "What about savory sweets like apple pies?"
Kyoka looked at Izuku with a deadpan expression. She took a brief moment to collect her thoughts, her eyes fixed on him, before finally speaking up. "I guess so," she began, her voice laced with playful sarcasm, "but let's be real here—I still fuck with savory foods more."
They both shared a mutual understanding, favoring savory dishes over sweet indulgences. It was yet another connection they discovered. Their conversation then delved into their families. Kyoka spoke about her parents, painting a vivid picture of her mom and dad.
Kyoka began, "You know, my old man is pretty cool. He's got this laid-back personality and a great sense of humor. He's always there for me when I need advice or someone to talk to. But sometimes, he can be really overprotective, but he's soft as snow. OH and he also taught me how to play the guitar and other instruments" Kyoka twirled her earjack around her fingers "And my mom is awesome too. She's super laid-back and easygoing, and she loves to tease me about stuff you know? She's also the one who introduced me to rock music, and we often go to concerts together when she's not busy with work."
"That sounds like a lot of fun," Izuku replied with a smile. He admired Kyoka's close relationship with her parents and couldn't help but feel a tinge of envy.
Kyoka shifted her eyes towards Izuku "So what about you, how are your people like?"
"My mom is really kind and supportive," he began. "She's always been there for me, especially after I learned that I didn't have a Quirk. B-But sometimes, her protectiveness can be a bit overwhelming. She worries a lot about me, and it can get frustrating when she doesn't let me take risks or when I uh want to do things my way."
Kyoka nodded understandingly, her expression reflecting empathy. "Yeah, I get that," she said, her voice filled with empathy. "Parents just want the best for us, even if it means being a little annoying at times. It's nice to know they care about us. I also see how your mom gets worried for you because there are soooommmeee people that are complete diiiccccks about quirkless people"
Izuku's eyes widened at what Kyoka was referring to. He looked slightly to his right to see if Bakugo heard anything but luckily he didn't hear what was said. "You're right," he said, Izuku's tone filled with appreciation. "She just want the best for me, b-but I don't know"
The silence between Izuku and Kyoka hung heavily in the air, casting a shadow over their usually lively interactions. The classroom buzzed with laughter and conversations, but for them, the absence of words felt deafening.
Sensing the shift in mood, Kyoka tried to break the heavy silence. "What about your dad?" she asked
Finally, Izuku let out a soft sigh, breaking the silence. "It's c-complicated," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I wish I knew more about him, all I really know is that he works in the USA and he sends us money. My mom doesn't like to talk about it much, and I don't want to push her too hard. I've also never even seen a picture of him."
"T-That must be tough," she acknowledged softly "But hey, you never know what the future holds," she said, her voice gentle yet filled with hope. "Maybe someday, you'll get the chance to meet your dad and discover more about him. You could even flex on his ass and show how much you have changed"
"Thank you, Jiro," Izuku said with a sincere smile.
Kyoka flashed her usual confident grin and replied, "No problem, Midoriya. Being nice is just who I am, ya know? Besides, this could be a good origin story for you. like ugh Pokémon and Star Wars."
Izuku chuckled softly, "I don't think my origin story is that great."
Kyoka playfully nudged him with her elbow and teased, "Yuh huh, I'm in it, remember? That automatically makes it awesome!"
Izuku laughed once again. "You've got a point there....." 'having someone like you is pretty awesome.'

RING RING
The bell rang, signaling the end of the school day and the start of the club activities. Kyoka and Izuku walked together towards the exit of the school, sharing a few final words before parting ways.
"Smell you later," Kyoka said with a smile, waving goodbye to Izuku. "You too, bye," he replied
Despite his cringy goodbye, Izuku was bubbling with happiness on the inside. Spending time with Kyoka always brightened his day, and their friendship continued to grow in ways he never imagined. He watched Kyoka walk away, a fond smile on his face, before turning to leave himself.
However, his moment of joy was abruptly interrupted when he heard a familiar voice call out to him. "Midoriya! Hey, are you going to the newspaper club meeting?"
Izuku's stomach dropped, and he turned to find Uraraka Ochaco jogging up to him. He had completely forgotten about the newspaper club meeting, which he had reluctantly agreed to attend. All he wanted to do was go home and work on his web shooter prototype, a project he was excited about.
"Uh, y-y-yeah," Izuku replied, attempting to sound convincing. "I'll be there."
Uraraka raised an eyebrow, clearly skeptical, but she didn't press the issue further. "Okay, cool. See you there," she said, waving goodbye and heading in the opposite direction.
Izuku watched her walk away, feeling defeated. He didn't want to let his classmates down, but the thought of attending the meeting made him want to die. With a heavy sigh, Izuku mustered his resolve and started making his way towards the club room.
Small Timeskip
Izuku entered the classroom where the newspaper club was holding its meeting. The atmosphere buzzed with energy as each department occupied their respective tables, discussing various topics related to their work. He scanned the room, feeling a bit out of place since he was the sole member of the photography department.
Taking a deep breath, Izuku settled at his table. He listened to the enthusiastic conversations around him, their ideas filling the air. Lost in his own thoughts, he didn't notice someone approaching him until he felt a presence near his side.
Looking up, he saw Yui Kodai, a quiet girl from the writing department and the secretary/assistant of the club. Her monotone voice contrasted with her sudden appearance, catching Izuku off guard.
"Hi," she said in her usual monotone voice. "U-um, hello," Izuku replied, feeling a little awkward.
Yui didn't seem bothered by his initial hesitation and continued speaking. "Are you doing anything tomorrow?" Izuku was surprised by the direct question but shook his head. "No, I-I don't have anything planned...Why?"
"Okay," Yui said, her tone unchanged. "Because the yearbook club needs a photographer for their meeting tomorrow. Can you come and take some pictures?"
Izuku's eyes widened in excitement. He hasn't taken any photos recently and having his photos in the yearbook seemed very cool to him. Also shouldn't the yearbook club already have a camera man? "Yeah, sure! I'd love to help. W-Where is the meeting exactly?"
"Room 2305, tomorrow afternoon," She then noticed Izuku's slightly anxious expression and decided to offer some reassurance. "It shouldn't take that long...but the president is pretty energetic. She's quite particular about getting the photos just right."
Izuku nodded, trying to keep himself composed. "T-Thank you, Kodai. I'll be there."
As Yui observed him closely, she noticed his gaze fixed on the empty chair beside her. She blinked a few times, she noticed him deep in thought, seemingly lost in his worries. She tilted her head slightly, finding his behavior weird. What could he be thinking so deeply about? Without a change in expression, she reached into her bag and took out a small note, discreetly passing it on Izuku's table and then left.
Noticing the note, Izuku quickly snapped out of his deep thoughts and realized that Yui had left. He found the note left for him. It was just a pink note with the room number he needed to be at and a small message stating that he is the camera man sent by the newspaper club.

After the meeting, Izuku felt a surge of gratitude towards Yui for providing him with all the necessary information. It was a valuable opportunity, and he was determined to make the most of it. As he got up and slung his backpack over his shoulder, he prepared to head home.
However, his departure was momentarily stopped by Uraraka, who approached him with a bright smile. "Hey, Midoriya! Good to see you in the meeting today," she greeted him warmly.
"T-Thanks, Uraraka. It was nice to ugh be here," Izuku replied, returning her smile. Curiosity piqued, Uraraka asked, "Are you heading home now?"
"Yeah, I, uh, need to catch the train," Izuku responded. "Okay, see you later then! Have a good one," Uraraka bid him farewell with a wave. But then, a mischievous glint came across her eyes as she added, "Oh, and also, next time, just send the pictures I asked you for."
Izuku furrowed his brows in confusion. "What do you mean? Did I send you the wrong photos?"
Uraraka chuckled softly and teased, "No no no no, you didn't. But I did get a photo of your girlfriend." Izuku's face flushed beet red, his stuttering response betraying his surprise. "I-i-i-i don't have a girlfriend."
Uraraka couldn't contain her laughter at his flustered reaction. "Sure, but next time, only send the photos I need, okay?" she said with a playful smile. Feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement, Izuku slowly nodded. As he walked away, he began closing the door behind him and waved to Uraraka, who returned the gesture with a warm smile.

Still feeling a little flustered, Izuku continued down the street, his mind buzzing with questions. What did Uraraka mean by the photo of a girlfriend? Did she know something he didn't? Or was she just teasing him?
Unable to resist the urge, Izuku pulled out his phone and checked the email he had sent to Uraraka. As he scrolled through the images, he saw the normal pictures of the Oscorp building and the exhibit. But then, his heart skipped a beat as he came across a photo that Kyoka had taken of herself with his camera—the photo he had saved.
Izuku's face turned even redder than before, and he began to rub his temple. "Oh my god," he murmured to himself, realizing what Uraraka had meant.
