Chapter 11

Narrator POV

Kyoka paused for a moment, contemplating her response. "I don't know," she replied casually.

Izuku's eyes widened in surprise, his mind racing to comprehend her response. He wasn't sure what to make of it. Was she being serious or just playing with him?

Kyoka leaned back in her chair, a mischievous grin playing on her lips. "you're quiet, you don't have any friends, and you're pretty nerdy and kind of a dweeb" she playfully replied, causing Izuku to be taken aback by her response.

Izuku's expression wavered, his feelings slightly hurt by her observation, an observation on how she feels about him. However, before he could dwell on it, Kyoka threw her empty juice box at his head.

The juice box hit Izuku's head, causing him to blink in surprise. He rubbed the spot where it landed. Kyoka let out a chuckle at his reaction. "I'm just kidding, numbnut" she reassured him.

She leaned forward and asked, "So, Midoriya, why do you think I invited you to have lunch with me?"

Izuku blinked in surprise, taken aback by the unexpected turn of the conversation. He furrowed his brows, deep in thought, and then replied tentatively,"W-Well, um, maybe b-because... because we, um, worked well together on that group assignment, and w-we... we never really talked until now, and, uh, you thought it would be, nice to get to know each other b-better?"

Kyoka chuckled softly, reaching for her bag of Takis out of her school bag. "Well, you're not entirely wrong"

Kyoka eats a handful of takis and just eats them. Izuku gets kinda impatient and says "S-So are you going to tell me."

"I'll tell you when you're older," Kyoka replied. As she brought a chip to her lips, she noticed Izuku's gaze fixed on her.

Kyoka turned the bag towards him, offering him a chip. "You want some? They're foreign. It's not that spicy, but I like them," she said with a friendly smile.

Izuku politely declined, his nervousness rising as he shifted on his feet. Kyoka sensed his awkwardness and quickly thought of something to say to ease the tension. She pointed towards the camera hanging around Izuku's neck and asked, "So, what's up with the camera?"

Izuku glanced down at the camera, his fingers gently tracing its contours. "Oh, it's just uh camera that my m-mom bought me. She got it for me to, uh, distract myself," he explained hesitantly.

"Distract yourself?" Kyoka inquired, genuinely interested.

Izuku fidgeted with the camera strap, a weak smile gracing his face. "Y-Yeah, um, I really, really like heroes. When m-my mom and I used to go for walks, we would, um, sometimes see heroes, and I would, uh, t-take photos of them on my mom's phone. Th-Then, I was given a small camera, and I would just run around taking photos of anything—plants, cars, heroes— and pictures of m-me and my mom," he reminisced, his voice shaking slightly. "I think that really h-helped me through a lot of stuff. But then, I, um, stopped because ka....because I dropped my camera and broke it, so I started drawing and writing notes about quirks. B-But on my 10th birthday, my mom bought me this camera, and I f-forgot how fun it was. E-Ever since, I've just carried it around with me,"

Kyoka nodded, impressed by the lore of Izuku and the camera he always brings around."That's pretty cool, dude. I also have something that helps me through a lot of stuff," she admitted.

Izuku looked at Kyoka's guitar case, resting against her side, and took a wild guess. "Is it your guitar?"

Kyoka grinned and rolled her eyes playfully. "How did you know?" she chuckled. "Yeah, I like playing the guitar and other instruments, but mainly the guitar. I've been playing since I was practically out of the womb. I mean, seriously, my parents have pictures of me holding a small guitar before I could even walk properly. It's always been a part of me, you know?" Kyoka pulled her head back dramatically "Duuuuuddddde, you don't even know how much time I've spent jamming on that fucking guitar."

Izuku's curiosity got the better of him, and he couldn't help but ask, "Can I see it?" His eyes sparkled with genuine interest as he looked at Kyoka.

Kyoka, surprised by his request, glanced at him, making sure he was serious. "For real?" she asked, searching his eyes for confirmation. Izuku nodded eagerly, explaining, "I've always seen it in the case and never out of it. I've been curious about it for a while."

Kyoka grabbed her case and unzipped it slowly. "Yeah, I don't really play it in front of people, only my parents and some friends," she admitted. Carefully, she pulled out a stunning purple bass guitar, its glossy finish catching the light. Izuku's eyes widened in amazement as he gazed upon the instrument.

Unable to contain his excitement, Izuku inched closer to the guitar, his hand reaching out instinctively. However, before he could touch it, Kyoka swiftly used her earphone jacks to lightly tap his hand away. Startled, Izuku looked at his hand and then back at Kyoka, perplexed.

"No touchy," Kyoka playfully scolded him, a small grin on her face. Izuku immediately apologized "Sorry"

Kyoka then proposed, "Unless I can touch your camera?"

Confused but willing to reciprocate, Izuku nodded and took off his camera from around his neck, carefully handing it to Kyoka. In return, Kyoka handed her precious guitar to Izuku, their gazes meeting as they both sat there, awestruck by the exchange.

Both of them sat there, amazed by the instruments in their hands. Izuku tentatively plucked at the guitar strings, creating a weird tune that echoed through the air. As he continued experimenting with the instrument, he heard a soft click sound.

Turning his attention to Kyoka, Izuku noticed that she had taken a picture of herself using his camera.

After Kyoka had taken a picture of herself with Izuku's camera, her expression quickly changed from amusement to mild horror. "Euuughhh, how do you delete this?" she groaned, her fingers furiously tapping at the camera's buttons in an attempt to delete the unwanted photo.

Izuku watched her struggle "I-I can delete it, if you want" he assured her, taking the camera back into his hands.

Izuku's eyes lingered on the photo, his heart skipping a beat as he looked at Kyoka's candid pose. Her vibrant personality was perfectly captured in that single frame, her confused smile and curious glint in her eyes shining through. The way her earphone jacks framed her face added an extra touch of uniqueness. It looked like she'd never seen a camera.

(In her middle school outfit)

Izuku's thumb discreetly pressed a different button, saving the photo instead of deleting it

Meanwhile, Kyoka got up from her chair, carefully placing her guitar back into its case. Izuku watched her with a puzzled expression, wondering why she was suddenly packing up. It was then that he pulled out his phone and realized they only had a few minutes left before the end of lunch bell would ring.

Quickly retrieving his bento box from his backpack, Izuku started eating his meal. Kyoka chuckled, noticing this. "You hungry as shit, aren't you?"

Izuku nodded, his mouth full of food, before managing to say, "I didn't realize h-how much time went by."

Kyoka agreed with a nod. "Yeah, me neither. Time flew by a lot like a lot lot," she admitted, reflecting on the enjoyable moment they had shared.

As Izuku finished his meal, the silence between him and Kyoka enveloped them in a comfortable bubble.

With each bite he took, Izuku savored the flavors and textures of his food, his mind occasionally wandering to the events that led up to this situation. Meanwhile, Kyoka sat beside him, lost in her own thoughts, occasionally strumming her fingers against the case of her guitar, feeling the soft ridges liking the sensation of it.

RING

As the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, the Koro's voice filled the classroom. "Have a nice day, everyone, and remember to be kind to each other and don't do anything...not smart," Koro-sensei advised, offering a reminder before bidding the students farewell.

Amidst the commotion, Izuku glanced around, his gaze landing on Kyoka, who seemed lost in thought. Their eyes met, and for a moment, Izuku felt a flutter of anticipation in his chest. However, before he could gather his thoughts, Kyoka broke the silence.

"Do you want to walk together?" she asked, her voice soft but determined.

Izuku's surprise turned into a shy smile as he nodded. "Y-Yeah," he replied, mustering his courage. "I'd like that."

They began their journey out of the school, walking side by side. The silence between them felt comfortable, the unspoken bond growing stronger with each step. Izuku couldn't help but wonder why Kyoka seemed different right now—less outgoing, more reserved.

Lost in his thoughts, Izuku pondered over the change in Kyoka's demeanor, his mind running through various scenarios. However, he couldn't find an answer, so he decided to enjoy the peacefulness of their shared silence instead.

Upon reaching the exit gates, Kyoka turned her whole body to face Izuku. His nerves resurfaced, causing him to sweat nervously and avoid making direct eye contact. He sensed a shift in the air.

Kyoka, too, appeared somewhat awkward as she began to speak. "Hey, um... I've been thinking," she started, her words stumbling slightly.

Izuku's heart skipped a beat, anticipation building within him. "Do you think... we could be friends?" Kyoka asked, her voice tinged with shyness.

Izuku felt a mix of excitement and disbelief. He had never had a friend before, and the idea of someone like Kyoka wanting to be friends with him seemed like a dream come true. He mustered his voice, his nervousness evident.

"Y-yeah," he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. "I-I mean, o-o-only if you want to be of course...."

A genuine smile adorned Kyoka's face as she asked. "So, are we friends now?"

Izuku's face brightened, relief flooding over him. "Yeah, let's be friends," he answered, his voice filled with newfound confidence.
Kyoka's grin widened, and she playfully punched Izuku's arm. "Cool, cool," she said "I'll smell you later."

"Yeah, smell you later," Izuku said. Kyoka gave him a small smile, her eyes gleaming with amusement. She waved goodbye and began to walk away, her footsteps gradually fading into the distance.

Izuku returned the wave, his hand awkwardly raised in the air as he watched Kyoka leave. As she disappeared from sight, he stood there, a jumble of emotions swirling within him. Happiness, excitement, and nervousness danced in his chest, creating a whirlwind of anticipation for what their newfound friendship could bring.

Timeskip

Izuku made his way to the train station and went Inside the train. He found a quiet spot, sat down, and let out a sigh. He thought to himself, 'What just happened? I mean, I was taken to a rooftop for lunch with a girl, I actually walked with a girl, and I even made friends with A GIRL. Me, of all people!'

He shook his head in disbelief 'And on top of that, I suddenly have a quirk...or power, or whatever you want to call it. It's like everything is falling into place, and it's all going my way!'

His thoughts then shifted to Kyoka 'But...Why was Jiro so shy? She was pretty outgoing before. What happened at the end of the school day? It's like something changed, and I can't figure out why. What's going on?'

Feeling the need for a little escape from his thoughts, With a gentle click, he plugged his earbuds into his phone and scrolled through his playlist, searching for the perfect song to soothe his mind.

'Maybe she's just like me,' Izuku pondered, trying to find a parallel between them. 'Maybe she's just got a little overwhelmed and her social battery ran low....ugh I don't know'

Izuku soon closed his eyes, allowing the music to wash over him. As he leaned against the backrest, the warmth of the afternoon sun gently caressed his back, adding a layer of comfort to his surroundings. Closing his eyes, Izuku let himself drift off to sleep.
