Chapter 9: The Mistake
Hey guys! 3 views away from 200. Thank you guys so much - enjoy the extra-long chapter <3!
Marinette wasn't sure if she was dreaming about what happened the night prior. She was thinking of it before she went to bed, and when she woke up; so maybe she was.
She had felt her heart belonged to Luka, and she hated feeling confused about the guy that she liked.
Adrien had a special charm at night, and she hoped she hadn't fallen for it. She didn't want to confirm Luka's statement about how she changed overnight.
Zoey skipped around the room while she ironed her dress and gathered her outfits for all three meals.
Marinette brushed her teeth and saw loads of makeup through the corner of her eye. She couldn't believe that one girl in the competition could need that much variety.
"Marinette~ I think you will love the dress I chose!" Zoey sang. "Coming!" Marinette shouted with a muffled voice, her mouth full of toothpaste.
She washed out her mouth and came outside to see what Zoey had planned out for her day. She chose I nice knee-length dress with black bias tape around the seams. It had detailed white flowers, spread out on a periwinkle canvas.
Marinette's eyebrows shot up. "Beautiful," Zoey took a deep breath and smiled; she almost looked relieved. "Is something wrong?" Marinette asked with a concerned tone.
Zoey laughed as she tapped on the chair for Marinette to sit. "Oh don't worry about me darling, we have to worry about getting your hair and makeup done before breakfast," she said making Marinette nod.
It was the fact that Zoey was always so positive and calm which made her have a ripple effect on her. Someone knocked on the door as Zoey put down the curler, and opened it.
"Marinette Dupain-Cheng, please come with me immediately," they said, as Zoey let out a breath of relief that she hadn't curled any of her hair yet; she wouldn't want half of it to be straight, the other curled.
"What happened? Breakfast is in 15 minutes," Marinette asked politely confused. "His Majesties are in need of talking with you," he spoke quickly, seeming to be in a rush, and shutting the door.
Marinette froze. "Tell me that didn't happen. Tell me that didn't just happen! Tell me that didn't happen!!" Marinette exclaimed as Zoey bit her lip.
"That didn't just happen," Zoey said quickly as Marinette crumbled to the floor. "Okay, that did just happen. We just have to do your makeup quick," Zoey grabbed her by her shoulders, dragging her into the chair.
Marinette put on some quick lip gloss as Zoey combed out her hair, putting the curler away. Zoey applied some quick blush and eye shadow, and Marinette dashed out of the room putting on her heels while running down the grand staircase that lead to the hallway.
She ran down the stairs and just her luck tripped on her heels. She peered her head up and saw who had caught her; and, of course, it was the prince.
"Falling for me already?" he asked jokingly as Marinette got up. "Thank you," she said rubbing her head. "Where are you off to in such a hurry? Breakfast is in 10 minutes," he said checking his watch.
"One of you guardsmen came to my door - he said I needed to come downstairs immediately," Marinette said quickly, sucking in a breath after. He laughed, as she smiled slightly. "Well, he must have been wrong-" "No he wasn't," a voice interrupted.
Marinette twisted her head to see the one and only, King Gabriel.
"I-uh, bonjour," Marinette stuttered and curtsied. "Father, what is happening," Adrien asked, putting a hand in front of Marinette.
"It seems you are the one who woke up my son the other night," he informed as Marinette gasped.
"I-" "I'm not finished. He was up yesterday night, the guardsmen had reported he was with you." he finished sternly. Adrien rubbed his arm as Marinette opened her mouth to speak, no words coming out.
"That is what I thought," he grumbled, "Adrien, you are going to spend breakfast in your room. Also, you will not be allowed to be running around at night without my permission anymore," he boomed, Adrien looking the other way.
"No sir," Marinette said as Adrien put his hands on her shoulders. "Marinette, please don't-" "It was me. I was running around past curfew, and Prince Adrien came down to stop me," Marinette stated as the King raised an eyebrow.
"Then, why was I told another guardsman was near?" "Because, sir, Adrien called him since he couldn't find where I was. I was hiding past curfew, so please blame me not your son."
This was it. She was going to get kicked out. Well, palace life was nice while it lasted...
He sighed and rubbed his temples. "Well since this is your first time at the palace," he sighed "I will let it slide." Marinette released a breath she didn't know she was holding.
"Though you must not do this again, or you will be punished deeply," he boomed as he walked away. "I-I will not! I promise," she said after he left, in pure shock and relief.
Marinette took a deep breath and smiled. "That was close, huh?" she asked and nudged his shoulder. He didn't speak up.
"Adrien?" she asked in disapproval. "Why would you do that?" he asked sternly.
"I helped you, no 'thank you'?" she persisted as he chuckled. "You have me there," he replied, Marinette's eyes glowing. "My father, as you saw, it very cold and harsh," Adrien looked down, meeting her eye line.
"But, once you get close to him, he is quite nice. Maybe, even sweet. Though, it doesn't appear I am there yet," he admits and started to walk off. She tugged on his hand and smiled at him.
"Of course you are! Adrien, he is just looking out for you. He loves you dearly," Marinette said desperately. He laughed and shrugged.
"' Yes, of course.' He says those exact words," Marinette looked down. Though, I'm not sure he likes you very much," he added, making her laugh. "I'm fine with that, as long as you don't get punished," she smiled cutely.
"Marinette!" someone called from the distance. Alya ran up to the two and introduced herself to the prince. "It appears you two are getting closer," Alya purred as they both laughed.
"What's going on?" another voice intruded as we all turned our heads around. "Bonjour, Miss Rossi," Adrien said, Marinette adding a quick wave.
Lila Rossi stepped into the conversation. "We were just talking," Marinette advised in a slightly sterner tone.
There was something about Lila that made her question her behaviour, and made her feel like a self-conscious teenager. She seemed quite nice and sweet but she also seemed very controlling and judgemental. Or maybe Marinette was just jealous about how proper and extravagant she was.
She laughed and took Adrien's hand as Marinette bit her lip. "Aww, so sweet. But if you don't mind, I must talk with the prince," she played with his tie, dragging him beside her. "Wait!" Marinette exclaimed as they turned around.
What am I doing!?
"Nevermind, go ahead," Marinette muttered as they walked away. Something in the way she clung to his arm and how it seemed to make the prince uncomfortable, made her go straight to anger.
But, she just told herself that was what was going to happen here.
She sighed. After looking at the two chat and flirt a bit longer, she turned around to go get breakfast with Alya.
And she swore she saw Lila glare at her on the reflection of the door.
***
Right before supper, she had heard a knock on the door, which Zoey answered for her. She was putting in some earrings so when she heard Zoey gasp, it caught her off guard.
"M-My prince!" she exclaimed and curtsied. She let Adrien into the room as Marinette stood up, one earring in hand. "Adrien?" she asked as he tossed a quick grin.
"Sorry for intruding," he apologized, "Though, may we talk on the balcony?" he looked at Marinette as she gestured to the door. Marinette closed the slider as he looked off into the distance.
"I was wondering if we could talk... something came up today," he smiled as Marinette nodded. "Earlier today, when Lila was walking with me... it seemed to bother you," he said as Marinette bit her lip.
"She kept on trying to kiss me, and I kept on refusing," he crossed his arms, leaning on the railing. "It seemed to bother her, and then she accused me of not liking her," he continued as she nodded.
"Is it... wrong to feel bad? Like Lila seems nice, but I don't like her in that way yet," he added the last word in his sentence, not wanting to sound rude. She giggled. "Is something funny?" he dared as Marinette put a hand over her mouth.
"Well... no nothing. It's just, if you don't like her, then give it time, maybe you will," Marinette proposed. He smiled. "Thanks, Marinette you're a great friend," it seemed as if the word was sour to his tongue.
They stood there in silence as Marinette suddenly became very interested with her heels. He gave her a sad smile and put his hands around her waist. She blushed a deep crimson and gave a worried smile.
"A-Adrien?" she asked as he leaned in closer. She put a finger over his lips as he turned red and looked at the gardens once more. "Sorry..." he trailed off, still clinging on to her.
She looked at him with a sweet smile and put her hands around his neck. "My lady?" he asked as she laughed. "What did I say about calling me that?" she asked jokingly as he smiled.
"Sorry," he smiled slyly, "But you are My lady," Zoey laughed in the background quietly, watching them. "Just kiss her already!" she exclaimed as they blushed a deep red.
"Well we must follow orders," Adrien said as Marinette smiled. She leaned in and their lips met as she closed her eyes.
It wasn't her first kiss, but it was every bit enjoyable.
They backed up as Adrien smiled. "You're cute," he said as Marinette pushed his face away with her finger. "Oh shush," she mumbled. "Ahem," Zoey said from the distance s they turned their heads.
"Adrien you must go, someone is here to get you," she said as he let go of her. "See you soon," he said smoothly, Marinette still slightly flustered. She toned down her blush and waved him good-bye right when he was at the door.
Marinette did enjoy the kiss, but something else took over her thoughts. She was now one million percent, in love with two people.
Stay tuned! I hope you enjoyed!
