Chapter 16: Investigation

Hey guys. I would like to welcome any new readers; I know we have a few of them. I am excited to say we have around 20 reads on the last chapter. So hello to 20 of you! It may not seem like much, but it's a lot to me.

Also, I want to know that this chapter was written a week ago, so it may be a bit cheesy since I don't really remember EXACTLY what I wrote. Also, this picture above is very random; it has nothing to do with the chapter XD

Though, without further ado, enjoy the chapter!

"Class dismissed!" Miss. Bustier yelled, twenty-two chairs scraping the marble floor; chatter beginning between the competitors. "Hello, Marinette," a girl tapped her shoulder. She glanced over her shoulder, seeing Kagami Tsurugi behind her.

"Hey," -Marinette turned to face her- "What do you need?" "I thought that we could talk after lunch?" Marinette's eyes widened, "I need to tell you something." "About what?" Marinette asked cautiously.

"You'll see," she walked off. "Oh okay," Marinette mumbled, Kagami tossing her a quick stare from over her shoulder. "See you..." she muttered, even though she was too far to hear. Marinette released a breath she didn't know she was holding, a boy resting his hands on her shoulders.

"Hey, Luka," Marinette lifted his hands from her shoulder blades. Luka was making sure he was a few feet away before tossing her a smile. "Hey, Mari," he rubbed the back of his neck, "Could I talk with you later?" she squinted her eyes. "I promise, only as friends," he reassured, Marinette nodding cautiously.

"Great, I'll visit you tonight," he tossed her a quick wave, Marinette suddenly becoming very interested in her heels. Marinette's smile faded, her brows furrowing as she ran up the stairs. She needed to get to the bottom of what really happened with Kagami's broach.

"Kagami...?" Marinette mumbled, glancing around the hall. "Hello, Marinette," her ghost-like tone made her jump. "H-Hi, Kagami," Marinette sucked in a breath. "So, what are we doing?"

"Exposing Lila," "Y-Yes, but how," Marinette sighed, feeling stupid for asking so many questions. "By going to her room and looking for clues," Kagami replied, annoyance ripping into her tone. "Are we allowed?"

She scoffed. "Yes, yes we are. Because invading someone's room is allowed." Marinette smiled nervously, Kagami still walking upfront. "I suppose it's obvious," she mumbled.

Once they made some twists and turns, they got onto the third floor. Marinette's room was on the fourth floor of the front left tower; as Kagami's was.

"Hello?" a maid, their age, answered the door quietly. "Hello, we would like to have permission to see this area," -Kagami crossed her arms- "We are suspecting Lila of being the thief who stole my broach."

Marinette stayed quiet, Kagami continuing to do the talking. "Or do you have something you are hiding?" "You're not allowed to go in Miss. Rossi's room," the maid whispered back nervously. "Why is that?" Kagami dared, "Must I repeat my question about you hiding something?"

The maid sighed. "Just go in. Don't tell anyone," she mumbled as Kagami walked in. Marinette trailed behind her, looking at a room identical to hers; except for the different view beyond the window.

Kagami went right over to her drawers, furiously opening them, as Marinette sat on Lila's bed. After glancing at the vanity, she saw a small letter.

"That's my name!" -Marinette picked up the letter- "This is addressed for you!" The maid rubbed the back of her head. "It says for you to place broach in my room..." Marinette felt her hand curl into a fist.

"Well, it appears we found Lila to be guilty," Kagami snatched the broach from Lila's vanity drawer. "We'll show this to the prince later," -she ripped the letter from Marinette's hands- "We can expose her in front of everyone."

"I hate Lila as much as you do... but should we humiliate her in front of everyone?" Kagami raised an eyebrow, "I-I mean, what if that happened to you. I think we should just tell the prince," Marinette smiled Kagami shaking her head in disproval. "I'll see to it. Good day to you," Kagami left the room, on her way back to her chambers.

Marinette followed her quickly, but they switched paths when Marinette stopped at her door. Kagami and her agreed that she'd tell the prince herself, and Marinette was fine with that. Besides, if Marinette had said anything it would look like she was doing it to get out of trouble.

Marinette's mouth watered at the instant aroma of lemon tea hitting her nostrils. Zoey noticed her arrival, leaning on the bed frame. "What were you up to?" she dared, Marinette smirking. "Oh, just bringing some justice."

"Hey, Marinette," she tossed Luka a smile. "So what did you need to talk with me about?" Marinette let him into her room. "I just wanted to apologize really," he laughed under his breath.

"I shouldn't have gotten you conflicted with your feelings. And our kiss, amazing as it was, shouldn't have happened at all," she waited for him to continue. "I also apologize if I was being pushy, and you deserve the best Mari. If you like this guy, then great. If not, that's fine too. I'll always be here for you, even if we're just friends."

Marinette sat beside him on her bed. "Oh, Luka... I was never mad at you. It wasn't your fault either," -she crossed her arms tightly- "I was getting mixed feelings from you and Adrien... I let myself get out of control."

"For that, I'm sorry," she added, looking up at him. He chuckled, "It's that, right there," -he pointed to her- "That would make you a great wife," he commented, Marinette giggling slightly. But, I'll always be here for you." he got up, leaving her sitting by herself.

"See you," he went to the doorway. "Thanks, Luka," he shut the door. She had heard that they were now serving dessert in the dining hall, so she strapped on her heels and made her way down the stairs.

She snuck in between the open doors, seeing Alya conversing with Kagami. "Hey, guys," she tried to inject herself into the conversation. "Hey girl," Alya then sighed, "Where were you? We've been here for fifteen minutes!"

"Oh, just finishing up something," Marinette giggled nervously. "What about you two? Anything special going on?" Marinette bit into a small pastry. "Nothing much," they replied in unison, all of them sharing a quick laugh. Alya then excused herself, leaving the two alone.

"So..." Marinette trailed off, the tension increasing. "It was nice to make a new friend, Marinette. Though, even if we do become close," -she slammed her cup down- "Only one girl in this contest can remain. I will not let this friendship get between me and Adrien."

Marinette froze in shock. "You seem nice Marinette. I do hope that I don't have to warn you another time."

Marinette sighed, placing her half-eaten cookie to the side. That was Kagami's nice way of saying to back off; Adrien was hers. She could never believe that...right?

She saw from the corner of her eye; Adrien pecking Kagami's cheek, both of them walking off together. She looked down at her heels, wanting to forget she ever looked.

It seemed that she had started to believe it.

Stay tuned!!
