Chapter 1

A/N: The picture shows America.

The day the letters were set out in the mail, my mom was ecstatic. She thought that this would finally be the Selection a Singer would get married and carry down the crown.

Our family has tried a selection with my 2 older siblings, Kota and Kenna, although both of them have died, Kota during the Selection, Kenna after she was married. James Order and her had a little girl, Astra before she died, James is also gone now, although Astra, as adorable as ever is still with us.

And now its my turn. "We need an heir, mom says, "can't you just do this for our people" she says.

I sigh. I should have seen this coming  I know our country needed a distraction but did it have to be me?!

I'm still trying to talk my mom into allowing me to skip this whole selection even though the letters are gone and some are already sent out.

"Please mom, it's my birthday and all I want is to not have a selection, please!" I begged.

"I've said no a thousand times and there is nothing you can do to change my mind" she said sternly. "Now it's your birthday honey. Go and have a good time at your party." My mom says calm and kindly.

I stomp off in my extremely uncomfortable heels to my party.

"BOO" shrieks a young, and bubbly voice. I can't help but smile.

"May you scared me!"  I say playfully.

"Sorry, Ames, you look absolutely beautiful ." She gushes.

"Oh, well you look amazing May" and she did. May's maids always outdid themselves. Today her hair was elegantly curled and she had on a light pink dress that trailed on the ground slightly. The dress had diamonds dazzled across it. To top it off she on ballerina flats that were the same pink. All together May stole the show.

"Come on Ames, everyone is waiting for you especially Davis he won't stop asking for you." My cheeks reddened as May started raising her eyes at me. "Stop it." I said as I playfully shoved her shoulder.

"Come on Ames your missing out on the strawberry tarts." She sang.

"Okay, okay, I'll be there in a second  now you go have fun." And with that she scurried off.

I walked down the hallway, thinking about this all. In just a week 35 strangers will be living in my home and I will have to narrow them all down to one and pick my future husband.

I took a deep breath this was all to much too think about now. I brushed a strand of red hair behind my ear, and walked down the hall until I finally reached the doors to the great room.

A guard reached over and opened the door for me. Another one announced my arrival "PRINCESS AMERICA SINGER OF ILLEA" he boomed. Heads turned to greet me as I walked through the crowds.

A reporter calls out my name, and I widened my fake smile slightly before turning around facing the crowd. As soon as I did a bright light of a camera flashed blinding me for a split-second.

"Princess America how are you feeling about your upcoming selection." a voice asks. " I'm rather nervous, it's just crazy to think that in a year I'll have a husband, and Illea will have a new prince."

"Princess America," another reporter called. I turned in the direction of the voice "How do you think the new prince will react to the rebels." This was a tough one, if I messed up here the whole country could worry. "Well, I have know way of knowing yet, but he should be able to make good decisions for the whole country."

"Now if you'd excuse me I'll be going now to enjoy my party." I told the reporter and walked off too the crowds.

Many people that I didn't even know turned to greet me asking me to dance or to shake their hand. It took me 4 hours just to get to the other side of the room. I giggled as I spotted Gerad my little brother.

I walked over to him " Hey silly," Gerad had his soccer ball with him and was kicking it around hitting everyone around him. I was shocked mom hadn't scolded him yet.

"Wouldn't you rather be playing with Princess Janelle from New Asia." I asked.

He wriggled his nose "No way!" Gerad said, and ran away with his ball.

I sighed, then giggled as Gerad accidentally knocked into a reporter.

Soon people were gradually leaving the place and only about 70 remained. I was shocked I hadn't seen Davis all night.

Suddenly a hand grabbed at my wrist and before I could shriek a familiar voice whispered in my ear. "Come with me." He whispered. I couldn't help but smile.
