Chapter Thirty-Five

The One
Chapter Thirty-Five: King's Cage

•Jack's POV•

"I don't think...you should have done that." I groan as I struggle to breathe. It hurts so much. Elsa is here beside me, crying. She feels awful about it, but what can she do? It's already been done.

"El, you need to learn to hold your tongue."

"Well, I can't just stand there and watch the man I love be beaten to death by his father!" I look up, smiling. "What?" She asks, confused. "You finally said it. You said you loved me."

She shakes her head. "I was just saying that-"

"May be, but you said it." I smirk.

"I thought you would know that since I came back for you." My smirk fades. "El, you're not exactly an open book. For all I know, you came back for the food." I joke. She snorts. "I came back for you, you idiot! Yes, I like the food, but I missed you! Apparently you didn't miss me."

      "El, I-"

"No! Just because you're the prince doesn't mean-" "Dang it, woman, listen to me!" I grab her wrists and she calms down, but I can see in her eyes she wants to leave.

I say calmly,"I know you came back for me. It's just...that is the only time you've ever said that to me. Guys like to hear it once in a while, too, not just girls."

She nods. "Alright." She sits down. "You've never gotten mad at me before, either." I nod. "Oh yes, I have. Though I don't explode like you do."

She looks down. "I'm sorry. I'll have to work on that."

"No, it's fine. Just don't get mad at me. Heaven knows what you'll do." She laughs. "And about your dad...why does he do that to you? And why do you let him?"

"For one thing, he wants to be controlling all the time. He's losing support from his country and he feels as if he needs to control everyone around him for it to balance out. As for me letting him...I can't hurt anyone. Not like he does. And he's too strong, anyway." She comes closer, laying a hand gently onto my bare shoulder.

"You're nothing like him, Jack. You have more of your mother in you, and I'm glad." She kisses my cheek. "I love you. And I'm sorry." I smile and kiss her back. "I love you, too."

    •Elsa's POV

Today was the day of the Halloween party. The day our families were supposed to come...but mine weren't coming.

Jack has tried to comfort me, but I will be the odd one out. We tried to contact Toothiana, but she's on a business trip with her company.

"I'm so sorry, El. I would come if I could. I'm so glad you're back, though!" I choked up. "Oh, thanks. Love you."

"Love you, too. I have to go now. Meeting. Bye!" She hanged up before I could say anything. I shook my head. "She isn't coming." He shook his head, looking disappointed, but I could see a smirk on his face.

"Why are you smirking?" He smiles. "You'll see."

He kisses the top of my head and leaves. "See ya tonight!" He yells around the corner. I sigh and head to my room to get my costume ready.

"Here it is!" Leah yells. She brings in a blue dress with a snowflake cape and sleeves. "Oh my gosh, I love it!" She laughs. "Good, because I worked all night on it. And there is something else for you.." she says softly as she opens the closet door. I gasp as the woman I thought was gone stands there, a smile on her face.

"M-Maddox?!" I say in shock, frozen in place. ((Get it lol))

She smiles and says,"Hello, Miss Elsa." I rush over to her and hug her tightly, choking back my tears. "H-How?" She chuckles as she says,"Prince Jack."

I'll have to make it up to him later. Definitely.

Maddox finishes braiding my hair and puts snowflake pins in it. "Okay, let's put the dress on, shall we?"

I nod as they put it on. Wow. I look..."Gorgeous!" "We know! Jack will love this!" I smile. "Thank you. All of you. You mean so much to me." I hug them quickly and Maddox says,"We love you so much, my lady. You're an inspiration."

"Thank you." I hug them and head down to the Women's Room, where it has been created into a dance floor. "Elsa!" Punzie says. My, she looks amazing. She wears a white dress with lights on it to make it change color. "What are you?" I ask. "Isn't it obvious? A chameleon!" Then the rest of the girls come in.

[Angel With a Shotgun] {Prologue} |made with @ily.elsa |  He sets the cup of wine back down on the table. "Magnus!" He growls. "Bring me more wine!" Magnus, a mortal server of the Higher Red Angels, comes into his master's room. "Here you are, sir." He bows at his superior as he exits. He sighs, run in a hand through his coal-black hair. "The thousand years are almost upon us, Father." A statue of the great Prince of Darkness sits by the bedside table. The man picks it up, running his fingers delicately on the smooth but chiseled features of the bust. "I lost the last battle against him. I won't lose again." He smashes the bust on the ground in anger. "Never again will I be set back to watch the light fade into the shadows. Darkness will rule the earth. The archangel Jackson Overland will pay for the day he defeated me. He'll pay for everything." He emphasizes the last word. He stands up, looking at the now darkened sky. Colors of pink and purple still reflected in the horizon. It was almost dawn. The man looked up at his skylight. He flipped a switch, and the glass and metal moved. He put on his red helmet. He send a mind message to all of his angels, for, like lycans in a pack, they could link their minds as one when needed to. They could even step into each others' bodies, as long as the possessed one was a Higher Angel, and the body they are going into is a Lower Angel. 'Angels, at my command, head straight to New Vega. We attack as soon as it is dawn. We all have one goal: find out where Jackson is.' He received a mind message back from his second-in-command, Nathaniel. Nathan, for short. "Sir, someone spotted him in the streets of New Vega, helping the V-1's." The V system ranked the city in castes, V-8's being the highest ranking officials that rule the city to the V-1's, the lowest of the low. The homeless and the lost. "Then attack all of them. I don't care. Just find his location." "Yes, sir." Just as he said it, the sun starts to peak in the sky. Dawn. He spreads his thick, black wings, and flies out of the skylight to the city of New Vega. The City of New Light.

I am in the middle of the floor, trying to finish the work I had started this morning. I sigh, a bead of sweat running down my forehead. "There." I gasp. Finished. I had made a replica of a snowflake. I had only ever seen snow once; it was once when I was about five. Anna was too young to remember, but we had went outside the city to visit a settlement in Colorado. The mountains there were very beautiful. I can only barely remember them, now. I'd like to go again one day, but it is too dangerous to even set foot outside the city's walls that keep the humans possessed by angels out. In the lowers, we call them Eight-balls, because their eyes are just black when they are possessed. "Elsa!" I quickly hide the snowflake I had been making for her birthday. "What is it?" "Another angel attack. It's worse this time. There are more Angels than I can count." I run to the window to look beside her. I see red banded Angels flying into the city, over the walls and descending to the ground below. I notice a difference in one of them. One's wings is much longer than some of the others, and he has black hair and pale skin. What does that mean? I don't get a chance to know, because two Angels are coming our way. I close the curtains and shut the door. We don't have a lock, so I block the door by using a nearby chair. It won't hold them for long, but maybe it can give us time to escape. I lead Anna to my room, where a secret passage that leads to the underground sewage tunnels awaits. But we are too late.
