Chapter 19: I Do

In five hours we were to leave the castle in an attempt to help Adeline get to Aris without being assassinated. In two hours, I were to wed. Due to my training in the castle, I planned my wedding to how I wanted it. I chose the flowers, the decorations, the scheme, the venue, it was all me despite my mother's complaints to help. My favorite thing about today was my dress. The queen of Yaro had gifted me her personal seamstresses and designers for today. It was her gesture of good faith towards Fariane and as something to distract Adeline with all the stress she was going through. I was going to have a wedding dress made for a queen, something only one could dream for.

The final preparations to my looks were happening while my mother made sure everything was in order outside. I was having my wedding in the castle garden under the beautiful sky that I love so much. Dorian was the one to point out the venue to me and I loved how he knew me so well.

I waited in a room near the garden anxiously as the wedding was starting. Adeline and Harriet were with me in the room.

"I don't know how I had planned to get married but you got married before me," said Harriet. Ever since she was brought here along the other girls that were saved, Norman and she have been inseparable. She stayed with him for a week trying to get out of the trauma she had gone through when she was captured. If it weren't for Norman we would have lost Harriet. He brought her back. Today was her first day talking to people again. The only other time she had gone out in public was to Mathew's funeral and once to visit Adeline as she mourned. It was nice seeing Harriet smiling again.

"Oh but your wedding is next, as Norman said, you will be married as soon as you get back so your family can be there with you," I reminded her.

She gave me a wide smile. "Yes, he always goes through with his promises."

Like his promise to always love her. Like his promise to always fight and protect her. Like his promise to stay by her side through sickness and in health. They were living a love story girls only dreamed of having.

Adeline let out a long sigh. "All my friends are getting married yet I still haven't found my Prince Charming. I think he might have fallen down a well or something."

Harriet and I looked at each other before bursting into laughter.

"But you already have a prince," I teased her about Rowan.

Adeline's face turned pale and frightened. "God no! I said charming, not nauseating."

I bit my lip to stop me from laughing.

"Oh I don't know, I've heard girls whispering how handsome he is," Harriet said with a mischievous grin. It was true, every girl in the kingdom of Yaro had fallen for Prince Rowan's dashing looks and bravery on the battle field.

Adeline scoffed like Harriet just insulted her. "Looks aren't everything, this man has a personality like a--"

My mom barged in before stopping in her steps. She looked me up and down before she started bawling her eyes out. "My baby girl! My baby is all grown up!"

She hugged me tightly as she continued to cry. Tears kept threatening to fall down my cheeks but I couldn't ruin my makeup. "Mama stop it, you're going to make me cry."

She pulled back and wiped her tears. "I'm sorry honey, you just look like a princess. I have been waiting for this day my whole life, but now that it's here... I can't bare to let you go again."

I held her hand and brought them to my lips as I gave them a small kiss. "I'll always be your girl Mama."

"Isn't that right," my father's voice caught our attention. He was looking at me with tears in his eyes but I knew he would never cry in public. It was something against his manhood, I could never understand. "Even if you marry the captain, you will stay my little girl."

These damn tears! Stop trying to fall!

"Always," I promised him.

He came and hugged me giving me a kiss on the crown of my head. "Are you ready sweetie?"

I nodded my head. As ready as I'll ever be.

My friends went first as they stood next to the alter as my bridesmaids. On the other side stood Norman and Rowan who had became friends with Dorian over their trip back in Fariane. Dorian stood at the alter looking dashing in his well fitted suit. He looked amazing.

I felt nervous wishing I didn't trip due to my clumsy nature and embarrass myself in front of all these people. Dorian. He was my rock. I should keep my eyes on Dorian.

His eyes ran from head to bottom with a big smile on his lips and a twinkle in his eyes. We were now looking at each other's eyes as I walked down the isle. His eyes were filled with promise. I knew I was going to be okay. I knew how much he loved me. I knew what it meant to be happy. I never knew how much I could love his eyes.

My father passed me on to Dorian who held my hand tightly. "How is it you manage to always leave me breathless?"

"The same way I only learn to breath again when I am with you," I told him. This man will be the end of me.

The minister began the ceremony. "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..."

I grabbed on to Dorian with all my might. I felt like I was going to faint yet die from happiness at the same time. I couldn't believe in a few minutes I would be married to the man I love.

"... I would at this moment invite you to publicly declare your vows," said the minister. "Lady Liana, you may begin."

I took a deep breath and tried remembering what I have been practicing for the past few hours. "I was always told that dreams did not come true and that wishing upon a star was a waste of time. No one ever treated me as more than just a pretty girl. Then you came along Dorian, you treated me like an equal. You sat down and listened to my dreams and then you promised me that my dreams will come true. One by one they did. One of my dreams was to fall in love and I had started to lose hope in falling in love. But you, not only did you fulfill my dreams but you changed them. Dorian, you are a dream on your own that I never want to wake up from. You are my best friend. You are my comrade in adventure. You are my partner in mischief. You make me feel alive, respected and loved. You are my everything. Since you already have my heart, the only thing left I can give you is my hand. Forever and always."

I finished taking a deep breath in like I was deprived. If Dorian wasn't holding my hand I think I would have fainted.

Dorian was staring at me with tears in his eyes, something so rare no one would believe me if I told them.

"Sir Dorian, you may begin," said the minister.

"Liana, at one point I did not know happiness still existed. I was miserable and barely living. Then I met you. You were this vibrant energy who's light I had to bask in. You showed me all that is right in the world. You taught me how to live again. How to laugh again. How to love again. You had broken down all my walls and pulled me out of my own darkness. I am indebted to you and all I have to offer you is my love. It is the only thing I could promise to be endless. You are the person I want to come home to every night, and the first person I want to see in the morning. You are the only person I can see having my children and could only dream to grow old with you. In giving me your hand, I promise to provide you love as you have provided me with light. Forever and always."

It was my turn to cry. These tears did not want to leave me alone today!

Dorian and I shared unspoken words with our eyes as the minister finished up.

"Under the eyes of God, do you, Liana, take Dorian to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to honor him in love, to be sensitive to his needs, to comfort him in difficulty, and to put your full and complete trust in him, so long as you both shall live?"

"I do."

"Under the eyes of God, do you, Dorian, take Liana to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you promise to honor her in love, to be sensitive to her needs, to comfort her in difficulty, and to put your full and complete trust in her, so long as you both shall live?"

"I do."

"Very well, to commemorate this union, you may exchange rings..." Jacob had brought us the rings on a small red silk pillow. We placed the rings on each other's fingers as we repeated after the minister.

"By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride."

Dorian and I both smiled widely at each other before his lips captured mine. We shared a sweet passionate kiss and commotion and celebration exploded around us. We pulled back dazed and with a wide smile on our faces once more. Will I ever stop smiling? It was so hard not to! I was so happy!

We moved down to another part of the garden decorated with flowers and lanterns. Music filled the air as Dorian and I had the first dance. Dorian pulled me close and kissed the top of my head as we danced. "Thank you."

I looked up at him curiosity. "For what?"

"I've never felt so happy, you keep teaching me new ways of being happy, so thank you," he said with a twinkle in his eyes and I just melted inside.

"You need to stop talking to me like that," I sighed.

It was his turn to be confused. "Why so?"

"Because when I think there is no way I could love you more, you go and prove me wrong with your kind words and nice gestures," I said honestly. This man was like magic.

Dorian gives me a grin that reached ear to ear. "I wouldn't want that to stop now would I?"

We finished our dance before my father claimed the next one followed by Dorian's father. Dorian had invited his parents despite his not wanting to. If they ever rekindled, I wouldn't want him to regret anything. His father hadn't been condescending in anyway which I was grateful for, I wouldn't want him to ruin my wedding. His mother was sweet as far I could tell, but stood in the shadows of her overbearing husband.

"This is the first time I've been happy since we lost Gabriel," she had told me. She was expecting little Dorians to be running around soon, which almost made my husband's heart stop. He still wanted only daughters so he wouldn't have to worry about his son following in his dangerous footsteps.

Everyone was drinking and dancing by the time Dorian gave us the signal to slip out. I got out of my wedding dress and wore a more simpler dress keeping it white. I was a new bride, I was going to abuse the color white. Adeline and I both wore cloaks to cover our identity as well as the men coming with us.

We climbed on the train going over the plan once more. At the halfway point, Adeline and Rowan were to get out and go their own route and meet us at the castle afterwards.

Dorian and I sat in our own car for a few minutes trying to savor some time alone. I sat in his laps with my head on his chest as he played with my hair.

"When this is all over, I am going to give you a nice honeymoon. My family owns a private house on a lake. It's beautiful. I'd like to take you there," he mumbled into my hair.

I looked up at him giving him a wide smile. "You know that I am perfectly happy being anywhere with you?"

"As am I but I will always try my best in seeing you the happiest you can be," he promised with his eyes.

I couldn't help but kiss him again. I think my lips will remain swollen forever since I could never get enough of him.

A knock on our door broke us apart. It was time. We head back to the car Adeline was in. She had an angry scowl etched on her face. "Is it too late to switch traveling partners?"

She threw a dirty look in Rowan's direction but he just took it with a lazy grin. "Sorry Shorty, but you're stuck with me."

"I'm not short," she mumbled under her breath. I couldn't help but let out a small giggle earning a dark look from Adeline.

I went over and gave her a big hug. "Please be safe, I can't lose you. You are my best friend."

Adeline returned my hug squeezing me tighter. "They're going to have to try a lot harder, I don't go down that easily."

That's our queen!

I pulled away and gave Rowan a look. "Please, keep her safe."

He nodded with promise in his eyes as he looked at Adeline. "Always."

She blushed and looked to the floor. Aw, he could be sweet if he wanted to. I hope they don't kill each other on the way there.

One soldier came barging into the car. "Captain, we received word over the radio. There is a band of thieves waiting at the halfway point. If they are getting out then they're going to need to jump. Now."

The colour in Adeline's face drained. "B-but the train is still moving."

"Scared princess?" Rowan teased earning a glare from Adeline.

"No, and it's queen to you," she said with a scowl. However, I could tell she was petrified.

Dorian opened one of the doors and looked down. "We'll be approaching a lake soon, get ready."

Rowan and Adeline stood by the door side by side. Adeline was trembling and her hands were shaking. Rowan reached over and grabbed her hand. She gave him a thankful smile before Dorian started to count them off.

A few seconds before they jumped, Adeline looked at Dorian and I with a sad smile. "I'll see you on the other side."

And then, they jumped.
