Two.
Baekhyun walked pass the road he believed he saw Chanyeol standing many times over, and each and every time he never showed. He felt pathetic really. He had a fiancé and yet he was chasing after the ghost of his dead lover? How sane is that?
Baekhyun sighed as he waited for the traffic to pass by before he could cross the street. He was headed for the café owned by Minseok and Jongdae, the one place he could really think. He was going to be meeting Luhan there like they had originally planned a few days ago before Baekhyun had had that encounter. An as he glanced down at his watch to check the time, he realized he was late.
"Shit!" Baekhyun softly cursed before dashing across the traffic-free street.
"I'm so sorry, I'm late!" Baekhyun cried as he rushed inside the coffee shop fifteen minutes later.
Luhan pursed his lips and took another sip of his coffee. He eyed Baekhyun over the rim of the cup, assessing his haggard and windblown hair. He set the cup down and gestured to his hair as he said, "You have a leaf . . ."
Baekhyun blushed and shook the leaf out as he dropped his bag beside the table, and plopped onto his seat. He huffed in exhaustion and closed his eyes.
"Long day?" Luhan asked.
"The longest . . ." Baekhyun mumbled. Then he sighed and opened his eyes as he reached down to retrieve his laptop from his backpack.
"So anyway . . ." Luhan began. "How are you doing on that literature paper Mrs. Crawford assigned? I can't come up with a decent thesis and I've been trying since yesterday night and it's fucking due tomorrow. I'm so screwed . . ."
Baekhyun booted up his computer as he mumbled, "Have you asked Sehun for help? You know he took her class last semester. And Mrs. Crawford was absent from class today so we haven't gotten the assignment yet."
"Are you serious!? Not fair!" Luhan cried. "I demand a two day extension!"
Baekhyun pursed his lips to repress a laugh before muttering, "Lu, you do realize it doesn't work that way . . .?"
Luhan sighed. "You can't blame a guy for trying."
Baekhyun smiled. "So how has my brother been? It's been weeks since I last saw him . . ."
Luhan laughed. "Oh, Sehun." He chuckled again. "He's been busy himself. He thinks I don't notice, but I know he's been helping Daehyun with the wedding plans. He hates showing his soft side," Luhan teased.
Baekhyun laughed too. "I'll have to thank him next time I see him. I feel bad though. Daehyun's practically doing all the work while I'm stuck in lecture halls all day long."
Luhan smiled. "Just be grateful you actually have a fiancé that gives a shit," he teased.
Baekhyun sighed. "You're right. Daehyun's amazing."
Luhan nodded and softly mumbled, "Duh!"
Baekhyun chuckled, and shook his head with a roll of his eyes before going back to his assignment. They worked quietly, both of them briefly chatting with Jongdae when he brought over their coffee.
Baekhyun was typing away on his laptop when he felt a prinkling sensation creeping up the back of his neck. His brow furrowed as he subconsciously shook it off. It disappeared for awhile and he was able to write another paragraph before it descended over him once more.
He frowned and stopped what he was doing to brush off his back, his eyes glancing up . . .
He froze. His mouth parted, and he could hardly breathe.
Luhan was still typing, and he glanced up briefly when he noticed Baekhyun had taken a break from his paper. He peered up at him questioningly, and then he noticed his expression.
His brow furrowed as he tentatively asked, "Baekhyun, are you okay?"
Baekhyun didn't answer. He just rose from his chair as if in a haze, paying no attention when he accidentally bumped the table and sloshed coffee onto the table dangerous close to their computers; Luhan yelled in irritation as Baekhyun mindlessly walked forward.
Luhan stared after him in bewilderment as he pushed his way out of the shop, watching as he paused for a moment on the sidewalk before taking off in a dead sprint. Luhan's jaw dropped, and he hurriedly asked for Minseok to watch their things before running after him.
Baekhyun pushed his way out of the shop, disregarding Luhan's questions as he walked forward, his eyes locked on a tall man just across the street. He began to walk away then, and not wanting to lose sight of him for a second, Baekhyun darted after him.
This is completely and utterly insane, Baekhyun thought as he ran. I'm chasing a ghost . . .
Baekhyun gritted his teeth in frustration, and pushed himself to run faster. He had to run faster.
