Twenty-three.
The woodsy smell of pine, and dirt, and the cleansing smell of rain washing over Baekhyun's senses. It felt so good as the breeze blew through his window and ruffled his hair back across his forehead. He sighed happily as a small smile fluttered pass his lips, and his eyes contentedly closed as he soaked in as much of the fresh air as he could.
The trip was long, but peaceful as the soft beat of music played in the background. Chanyeol didn't mind in the sightest that he had to drive nearly two hours to reach their destination because in all honesty, he enjoyed ever minute of it. He enjoyed the peacefully winding road that snaked through the forest, and echoed with the different calls of wildlife. He enjoyed the time it allowed him to spend with Baekhyun, even if all they did was hold hands and utter no more than three words to each other.
He was happy.
When they reached the campsite, Chanyeol leaned across the console and softly kissed Baekhyun's mouth to wake him up. His eyes fluttered open slowly as he blinked around before settling his gaze on Chanyeol; he smiled just as softly before kissing him back.
They each hopped out of the SUV and walked around to the back to pull out what they could from the trunk. Luckily they manged to carry everything with them before making the trek up a narrow path to one of the many campsites.
The wildlife surrounding them was beautiful and full of color and noise. They heard animals in the distance, and the gentle breeze rustled the leaves as the sun shone down brightly above them. It was simply just so beautiful and peaceful.
The first campsite they walked across was called Camp Evergreen, and Baekhyun remembered from the website that there was a waterfall and a cliff that overlooked the vast night sky and surrounding woods. They were in instant agreement as Baekhyun reminded Chanyeol of all the little things this particular campsite had tucked away within.
They had set up their tent and organized their things before night had fallen, and both of them retired early, exhausted after their long drive through the countryside. They fell asleep instantly, and slept comfortably on the air mattress Taemin had loaned them that took no time at all to air up with the compressor Chanyeol had also borrowed from his stepbrother.
Waking up the next morning was just as peaceful, and for the first time in three days Baekhyun didn't wake up with his phone buzzing from unread messages. He smiled at the sense of freedom the quiet peace brought him and rolled over onto his side.
Chanyeol was still asleep. His hair was a curly mess and pressed flat against the side of his head from his pillow, and his lips were slightly wet from the thin trail of saliva running down the side of his mouth. Baekhyun smiled softly and used his thumb to wipe away the thin line of drool before carefully leaning in. He kissed his forehead delicately and gently lifted a leg over his hip as he pulled himself closer. He admired his features in silence as he waited for him to wake; every so often his fingertips would carefully trace along the side of his jaw or he would delicately peck the tip of his nose in a sweet kiss.
He smiled with an almost lazy happiness as his fingers continued to dance along Chanyeol's silk like skin.
He was happy; immensely happy.

Later that day, the crackle of a burning fire and the twittering of birds filled the otherwise quiet air. Baekhyun had taken to the water while Chanyeol stayed by the fire.
Chanyeol had never experienced such peace; that was so quiet he could actually hear tree branches snapping in the woods. He sighed. Chanyeol also knew the peace couldn't last because the moment they drove back to the city, life would swipe them off their feet and throw them into a pit of every single thing they had been trying to avoid.
Baekhyun and his family; explaining to them why Daehyun told his parents the wedding was off; trying to ease them into the truth without sending them to the hospital. And Chanyeol . . . He couldn't decide who had the harder news to share —- him or Baekhyun.
Chanyeol had been proclaimed dead two years ago and his father and sister had had a funeral. So how would they react when their deceased son and brother showed up at their doorstep completely healthy? Would they be happy to know he was alive and well? Or would they be afraid of him? Would his dad resent his return since he had lost his wife, and hadn't been able to get her back? Could his father be happy that Chanyeol was only alive because of a wish made by his lover?
He didn't know the answers, and he would be lying if he said he wasn't absolutely terrified.
About an hour later, just a little after noon, Baekhyun and Chanyeol were laying together doing the one thing they desperately needed. Forgetting. They forgot the world and their problems as they laid together under the sun, a blanket laid out beneath them. Chanyeol rested on his back with an arm around Baekhyun's waist that gently held him close; while Baekhyun laid on his side with his head comfortably and perfectly molded between Chanyeol's shoulder and neck, as if he alone was met to lay there.
Chanyeol sighed and held him closer as he quietly asked, "Baek?"
"Hmm?" Baekhyun hummed; his eyes still closed in comfort.
Chanyeol was about to ask what they would do when they returned home, but decided not to a split second after. They had gone camping to relax and get away, not to bring their problems with them. Chanyeol sighed and brushed the hair back from Baekhyun's forehead before chastely kissing him.
"Would you like to go hiking? There's more beautiful wildlife we have yet to explore."
Baekhyun smiled and softly replied, "Okay, but the only way I'm moving from this spot is if you carry me. I'm so relaxed right now my legs are like jelly...." Baekhyun sighed with another soft smile.
Chanyeol chuckled and shifted his body upwards, standing up as Baekhyun smiled and reached his hand out for help. Chanyeol ignored it though and instead picked him up beneath his arms before swinging him up to hold him by the inside crease of his knee and under his shoulders.
Baekhyun laughed as Chanyeol carried him inside their tent. "I didn't actually mean it, silly!" Baekhyun laughed again.
"Then should I put you down?" Chanyeol asked with a small grin.
Baekhyun bit his bottom lip and wound his arms up around Chanyeol's neck as he sultrily replied, "I kinda don't want you too . . ."
Chanyeol grinned and kissed him deeply before huskily replying, "Then I'll carry you . . ."

"I can be your backpack while you run . . ." Baekhyun singsonged for the hundredth time before softly humming a tune.
Chanyeol huffed, and unable to take the insufferable song any longer he resorted to the childish method of pinching the underside of Baekhyun's thigh. Baekhyun squeaked cutely and jumped before hitting Chanyeol's shoulder as he asked, "Did you just pinch me?"
Chanyeol pursed his lips and mumbled, "Maybe...."
Baekhyun huffed. "Why?" he asked.
Chanyeol bit his bottom lip and cringed, knowing if he voiced his thoughts Baekhyun would get mad and maybe even feel a little hurt. So instead of saying anything he chose to say nothing. The silence instantly grew suffocating and Baekhyun patted Chanyeol's cheeks as he cried, "Talk to me!"
"Stop hitting my face," Chanyeol replied.
"Then don't ignore me!" Baekhyun shot back. "Now tell me why you pinched me."
Chanyeol still didn't answer, and growing frustrated, Baekhyun groaned and slapped Chanyeol's cheeks again before pulling on his ears. "Answer me!" Baekhyun whined.
"Ahh! Stop it!" Chanyeol cried as he pulled Baekhyun's hands away. "Ugh! Fine! I....pinched you because you were being annoying."
"Is that all?"
"Yes."
Baekhyun rolled his eyes and laid his forehead in the crook of Chanyeol's shoulder. "Then you should have just said so instead of pinching me," Baekhyun mumbled.
Chanyeol nodded, and they didn't speak for a moment. "Are you mad?" Chanyeol eventually asked.
Baekhyun rolled his eyes and softly replied, "Why would I be mad?"
Chanyeol shrugged. "I don't know . . ."
Baekhyun sighed and kissed Chanyeol below his ear before gently replying, "It takes a lot to make me mad, Chan, so don't worry because a pinch to the leg is nothing. Just annoying . . ." Baekhyun mumbled.
Chanyeol chuckled. "That's good."
Baekhyun smiled and closed his eyes, resting his cheek on Chanyeol's shoulder as they continued their hike through the woods.
