Jessica's POV

Ever since Tara came back to town, Jax has been on edge.

After we had gotten done with our appointment a few weeks ago, he had a security system put into the house, made sure that if I had to go anywhere, I wasn't alone, and made me agree to only staying at the store during the day for a few hours max if one of the other employees was there during that time.

As much as I would like to just pick up and move away from whatever may be going on, I know that no matter what it wouldn't be too hard to find us, so there's no point in even trying.

Even if I think that he might be going overboard with everything, I agreed to everything he's asked for me to do, only so he would stop worrying about things going on here so much.

On top of that, Jax wanted to make sure he was covered in every way possible, which is why we ended up sitting down with Marcus and the rest of the guys the other day.

What is this about Jax?" Marcus questions.

Jax sighs, laying a comforting hand on my thigh.

"I know that things between the Son's and the Mayan's are getting better, but there is another issue at hand, one involving the people sitting at this table. My mother has been trying to figure out a way to break the two of us up ever since she found out about Jess, and I'm worried about how far she may go to get what she wants. We all share the common goal of protecting Jess and our child" Jax explains.

"You don't think she would try to hurt them, do you?" Marcus questions.

Jax lets out a sigh, rubbing his free hand across his growing facial hair.

"I wouldn't put her past it at this point, she would do anything possible to get what she wants, and this is what she wants" Jax responds.

Marcus looks at all of the guys in the room, before looking back at Jax and me.

"I know something like this isn't heard of someone having a connection to two different clubs, and going against the president of your own club, but you have our word. If there is something going on that we hear about, we will make sure that she is safe. We can work something out to make sure that she isn't ever alone, and make sure that everyone knows she's protected" Marcus tells Jax.

Jax lets out a breath of relief, before giving Marcus a nod.

"Thank you for that" Jax tells him.

Today, I spent most of the day with Jax, going to our appointment, doing some shopping, and grabbing lunch before heading back to the house where my other wardens are waiting for the two of us to get back.

Jax has to go back to the clubhouse to take care of some club business, so he called Angel to meet us at the house so he can take care of what he needs to take care of.

Parking my Jeep next to the three bikes in the garage, Jax helps me out of the Jeep and gives me a parting kiss, before getting on his bike to head out.

Walking inside of the house, I see the two brothers sitting on the couch, eating snacks like always.

"Every time I see you two, you are always eating" I tell them, setting my stuff down on the counter.

"I'm ignoring that, how was the appointment?" Angel asks.

"The little girl and I are doing perfectly. She's beyond healthy, and so am I" I tell them, a smile on my face.

"Wait, hold on, it's a girl" Angel questions.

I nod my head, before sitting on the couch between the two boys.

"She's going to have all of you leather wearing bikers wrapped around her fingers before she's a week old, I'm calling it now" I tell them.

A few hours later, I found myself cooking dinner for the two knuckle heads across the island from me, when a knock on the door is heard throughout the house.

"Check and see who it is" Angel states, pointing to the laptop sitting open near us.

Pulling up the cameras, I roll my eyes when I spot who is standing on our doorstep.

"It's Gemma" I tell them.

Angel goes to pull out his phone, no doubt in my mind that he's getting ready to call Jax.

"You go answer it, you know what to do if anything seems fishy, we will be watching from in here" Ez tells me.

Opening up the door slightly, I look at the woman in front of me, confused as to why she is here.

"Can I help you?" I question.

"I was hoping we could have a chat?" she states.

I sigh, before stepping out of the door, closing it softly.

At this point, I know that everyone inside of my house, along with Jax, is listening or watching what is going on right now.

"What is there to talk about?" I question, crossing my arms over my chest.

As soon as I cross my arms, her eyes go from mine to my small bump that has recently shown up. After noticing the bump, a glare grew on her face, something I was not expecting out of the woman in front of me.

"Well, I see that you've trapped my son even further. So, I'm here to ask this, what will it take to get you to leave town?" she questions.

"There's nothing that you can offer me that I will take. I'm not going anywhere; you can get that thought out of your head" I answer.

Gemma lets out a scoff, before digging through her purse. Pulling out a wad of cash, Gemma separates some of it, before holding it out to me.

"Here is $10,000. That will take you anywhere you decide that you want to go, preferably somewhere far away from here. I know you met Tara the other day, and now that she's back it won't be long before Jax decides he wants her back and leaves you. I'd cut your losses now if I were you" she tells me.

"Listen Gemma, I admire what you're doing, I really do. You want to protect your son and all, making sure he doesn't get distracted by a random girl and making sure that he is focused on the club. What you need to realize is that I'm not going anywhere, whether you like it or not. Even if the ex-girlfriend that you called back is here. Stop this nonsense before you lose your only living son for good, because Gemma that's the direction this is headed" I tell her.

Gemma looks at me taken back by what I said.

Before she can speak again, I hear Jax's motorcycle flying down the long driveway to the house.

Parking next to his moms car, Jax hops off the bike quickly, before heading in our direction.

"What are you doing here?" Jax questions, pulling me to his side.

"Oh you know, just came to get to know my new daughter some" she responds, giving him a fake smile.

Jax rolls his eyes, before pointing to the camera nestled into the corner of the porch.

"I heard everything, trying to pay my wife off to leave me, that's low even for you mom" he tells her.

Gemma looks between Jax, and the camera perched above the door shocked, apparently she isn't as slick as she thought she was.

"You can't look me in the eyes and tell me that seeing Tara did nothing for you" Gemma exclaims.

Jax rolls his eyes at his mother.

"You hated Tara up until you found out there was someone in my life that you had no idea about. As my wife said, stop before you lose me forever. That's the way you're going, and that includes your granddaughter" he tells her.

Jax doesn't wait for her to respond before opening the door behind us and pulling me inside, locking the door behind him.

"I'm so sorry she's being like that darlin, truthfully I don't understand it" Jax apologizes.

"You have no reason to apologize for her. She knows that she's losing control of you, and she's willing to do whatever she needs to do in order to get that control back" I tell him.

Jax pulls me to him, kissing my forehead softly.

"Whatever may end up happening, just know you are always safe no matter what. I'm not going to let anything happen to the two of you, ever" he tells me.
