Chapter twelve: A Goddess's Grace

 Artemis's pov:

She heard the somber, heart-wrenching plea of her former beta, Jett, and felt a deep sadness well up within her. She knew that he was right; he was no longer fit to lead or to be her second-in-command. The weight of his guilt and shame were too great for him to bear, and she could not, in good conscience, keep him by her side. As she listened to his plea for forgiveness and release, she felt a tear trickle down her cheek. "Oh, Jett," she whispered softly, "what have you done?" She knew that she could not simply abandon him to his fate. He had been a loyal and dedicated member of the pack for many years, and she owed it to him to see him through this dark time. She would find him a new home, somewhere where his past mistakes would not haunt him, where he could find peace and perhaps one day redeem himself. But for now, she had to let him go to find his own path in life. "He needs to find Cedar," she murmured to herself. "He needs to make things right with his family." With a heavy heart, she turned and began the search for Jett, hoping to find him before he went too far and hurt himself, or worse, someone else.

She thought it was best to stay in her wolf form for this; it would help her sense him better. Her silvery fur glistened in the sunlight, giving her a heavenly glow. The forest was quiet, save for the occasional birdsong and the rustle of leaves beneath her paws. She followed her nose, tracking Jett's scent through the trees, her ears perked and alert. After what seemed like an eternity, she caught a glimpse of him sitting beneath a large oak, his head bowed and his shoulders slumped. He looked so utterly defeated and broken that she couldn't leave him there by himself. He worshiped her for years, and she owed it to him to help him find his way back. "Jett," she called softly, her voice gentle and soothing. He flinched at the sound, his head snapping up to look at her. His eyes were red and swollen from crying, and she could see the pain etched into his features. "Come, my child," she said, pacing closer to him. "We need to talk." He hesitated for a moment, then slowly rose to his feet, his gaze couldn't bare to meet her own. she has to be careful with her words, he is in a terrible state she couldn't bare to imagine of what he is going through.

"my lady?" Artemis's heart ached as she looked into Jett's eyes. "I know that you are in pain, Jett, and I know that you are feeling guilty and ashamed. But you must understand that you are not to blame for what happened. You did not kill Lily. You did not cause her death. You only tried to save her, and for that, you should be commended, not condemned." Her voice was soft and gentle, but it held a firmness that brooked no argument. "You are my beta, my trusted second-in-command, and I need you by my side. But I cannot force you to stay if you do not want to. So I am giving you a choice: you can leave the pack and find your own way in the world, or you can stay and help me rebuild it. The decision is yours to make."

Jett doesn't believe what he was hearing—a powerful goddess that he worshiped for years had just freed him of his guilt. He wanted to believe it; he so badly wanted to. But he couldn't. The weight of his actions was still too heavy to bear. He looked down at his hands, feeling ashamed and disgusted. "I... I can't," he whispered, his voice barely audible. "I don't deserve to be near you or anyone else. I should just disappear. Let nature take its course," he lamented.

Artemis had to think of another way to make the fallen beta bounce back. He needed hope; he needed something to hold onto, something that could help him see that there was still a purpose for him in this world. She took a step closer to Jett, her gaze steady and unyielding. "Jett, you are my beta, and I need you. But I understand that you need time to heal and come to terms with what has happened. So I am not asking you to stay, not yet. I am simply offering you a place to go, a place where you can find peace and solace, until you are ready to face the world again."

a sense of peace and relief wash over them, as if a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders. "Where would that be, my lady?" he asked, his voice still shaky but full of hope. Artemis smiled softly, her eyes shining with unshed tears. "There is a place, deep in the heart of the forest, where the trees grow old and gnarled, their branches twisted and intertwined like the limbs of an ancient, wise being. It is a sacred grove, a place where wolves can go to find solace and renewal. It is yours to use, Jett. You are free to come and go as you please, until you are ready to return to us." she confessed, her voice steady and reassuring. "In the meantime, I will continue to watch over you, to pray for your well-being, and to wait for the day when you are ready to reclaim your place by my side."
