"My Little Treat"
I sit in front of the fireplace crosslegged with music playing in my ears. Axel and Lily rest beside me as I sketch a picture in my book. The fire burns an mix of red to yellow, and it sways around fiercely because of the wind. The wood grow darker with every minute, and the old newspaper curl over and burn swiftly.
There hasn't been much to do today and I don't have a chance to get through any other room now that Damien and Will are currently in the building. They would see me. But whatever that was with Will today, I can't decide whether to trust him or not. I wouldn't want to fail because of trust.
Earlier on this morning, I woke up fairly early so I was practicing then. The Crossbow. It's quite hard to put together even if you had the manual, for the size of it. The smaller it is the harder to put together.
It will take a lot of practice to put it together swiftly and completely memorized, but I'm slowly getting there. I tested it before and made a hole in the carpet but it definitely shoots strong and fits in a sturdy way.
The worst thing is that Will heard it. I was frightened when he came in to witness it in my hands. I was so afraid that I could've gotten punished for it. The odd thing is that I haven't heard him speak to Damien about.
Will was shocked and confused why I had it in the first place, he threatened me but that was to keep my mouth shut. I can't tell if he's siding with me or not, but my instincts keep telling me to not lower my guard around him. This makes me confused. I almost don't know what to do.
"What are you sketching~?" I hear Damien's voice behind me and I look up at him. It breaks my relaxed mood. I become tense.
"Ah, Chica. Axel and Lily~." They're really shit sketches but he's right at least. I'm trying to sketch the three of them, maybe I'll get better with my sketches on in the future. I'm not good enough to draw real sketches.
I nod. "Yea, but they're pretty bad."
"Why doubt yourself? This is good, in it's own way~."
"What's up though? Do you want to talk to me or something?"
Damien nods, which makes me realize he's been standing over me the whole time. For a while, at least. He's been watching me in the darkness.
"I have an offer for you. You have proven to me that I'm able to trust you, because you won't disobey orders~."
For the last few days, I haven't had much to do and I've been acting like a good little girl when he's around to speed up my time. I don't want him to know my plan so I slipped by while acting like a golden child. But his tone, feels monotone.
"And what is that?" I ask curiously.
"I want to take you out for a nice dinner. A restaurant. Somewhere to eat well-made dishes~."
I get an odd feeling in the pit of my stomach.
One. He's going to let me out? In this world for a dinner? I never thought he would gain that thought, especially this soon! There could be 101 things that could go wrong with this. But then again, it could also allow me to progress with my mission, he hasn't suspected me so far...
Two. Out, to dinner? Me? Him? With the way he's looking at me too, doesn't make me feel that comfortable. It makes me look at him as manipulative all over again.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that~?"
"Why out to dinner, of all things?"
He pauses for a minute, confused. He then scoffs at me disgusted.
"That is not the idea. You deserve to go out tonight, for a reward. I want to be nice and treat you out. Nothing more, nothing less~."
This is genuinely nice. But I know his goal, he's not that blunt in the head...
"In the closet of your room is a set of outfits that you would probably wear. Not all of them are dresses. I think you'll like half of these outfits that are there. We leave in an hour and a half~."
He turns away and heads toward the kitchen. I have an odd feeling about this. An odd feeling I don't like. And out the corner of my eye, Will seems to give me this eerie stare. I can't fool around him anymore.
But the main question that begs my mind: How would he know what outfits I would wear? ...Maybe Dark Chica helped him with that. She can run around my mind after all. She probably gave him greedy little hints. To help makes things turn out the way he had wanted.
Confused, I make my way up to the stairs. When I walk to my room, I open the wardrobe. Turns out, there are tons of outfits that peak my interest. Dresses, jeans and tops, shirts and skirts, but one outfit makes me gasp with delight. My eyes glimmer at the sight.
I pull it out and try it on, which leaves with a perfect fit. White socks, light blue jeans and a light pink jumper. The jumper is one of those tops that have the tilt on the side, and the sleeve falls down a little. This is on purpose.
The jeans and the jumper are a comfortable fit, breathable and easy to move around in. They look nice enough to wear out, especially in a pair. When I mean pair, the outfit goes better with each other. It's like the perfect outfit!
Looking in the mirror, the outfit could use a beanie or hat. I have short, dark brown hair which goes down to my shoulders.
I search around the drawers for a hat or beanie, which I end up finding a light grey beanie. My, light grey beanie.
I put it on my head and adjust it, it feels like it was meant to be there. With the outfit. The fit feels so well. I look in the mirror, and the beanie goes perfectly. I snatched my dark grey fingerless gloves from the side and slip them on my hands.
Maybe I should...
I pat my cheeks, and they begin to warm up.
Focus, Jada! You have your outfit, focus on what is most important! I shut the door close and pull out the Minature case.
I unzip it to show the parts of the Minature Crossbow. I've practiced with this like ten to fifteen times with the manual. I push the manual away, I think I memorized it enough to make it on it's own. I need to memorize it well.
It's still a little difficult but I know where basically everything goes. Time to time I read the manual to double check if I'm doing it right, and eventually the puzzles become complete.
I wave it around in my hand, analyzing it. Finally. I have no idea when I might need to use this, but tonight I have to be prepared. I have a plan for tonight.
I grab my black and white handbag and put the Crossbow inside along with the arrows. I open the middle drawer and grab out the three bottles of antidote. I open the bottom drawer and take Sean's hat. The rough touch of it makes me shiver, but I put it in the bag cautiously.
I head back to the drawers and my eyes shift to the top. Key-shaped knife, pepper spray, Notebook, phone and earphones, all go into the bag. A different slot.
I lift it on my shoulder. A bit heavy and a little obvious that something is in there, but not too obvious. Though, would Damien notice something about it? I take a deep breath, feeling the determination rush through my body.
This is my one chance at this. I can't blow it...
* * *
I've been sitting in the room with phone full charge for a good ten minutes now. Soon enough Damien will pull me out for his special dinner.
I'm not too keen on it and I don't know what will happen. I'm a human being, everyone else is not. If you count Will in that. He has some sort of plan other than his original. This feels off. This isn't occasional. I know he wouldn't do this for no good reason.
I hear a knock on my door and I shout out, "In a minute!"
I put my phone in my handbag and zip it up. I walk toward the door to see Will in front of me.
"I heard you and Damien are going out tonight! Where?" He asks while ruffling his stache around.
"I'm not too sure. For dinner, maybe?"
He squints, peering at me. He would peer down if we weren't similar heights. Yeah, similar.
"Wilford, do not hassle her. I don't want delays~."
I give him a glare like grin and push past him. I don't have the time for his nonsense tonight.
"You rude little..!"
I walk down the stairs, and Damien smiles gently at me. A smirk plastered on his face, is the right words.
"You, look nice~."
"Thanks, Damien." I say as happily as possible, twirling. My mind is elsewhere...
"So, what's with the bag~?" He questions.
"The bag? Damien, women always have bags. I have some stuff I wanted to take with to dinner."
He nods, but I know he's at least a little on to me. The vibe is real, I can tell in the look of his eyes, he knows somethings up with the bag. I have to act cool and complex. I can't afford for him to see through my lies.
I look around to the outside layout, the fountain still seems to be going at full force. The platform is stone and it's exactly the same as when I saw it on video. And outside today.
"We can't waste time. Follow me~." Damien walks forward and Wilford follows him too. Don't tell me he's having dinner with us...
I let out a deep sigh, the cold chilly air forces me to step forward to their lead.
