Guardian

...

Third Person P.O.V

Children laugh as they play, running to meet with the other kids.

"Hey, let me ask you," Olaf looks between the children as they watch him in awe, a girl grabbing his arm. "How do you guys cope with the ever-increasing complexity of the thought that comes with maturity?"

A girl takes his nose, shoving it in her nose and allowing it to dangle as she turns with a giggle.

"Brilliant!" Olaf gasps with a smile as another girl shoves his arm through his head with a laugh. "It's so refreshing to talk to the youth of today."

A boy takes his arm, taking his foot and using the arm to hold it as he tries to bite it, a girl taking his other foot and licking it as another girl shoves his nose in his head.

"Oh, no, no, no. Don't chew that." Olaf quickly says as the boy stops. "You don't know what I've stepped in."

The girl's tongue sticks to his foot, making her mumble as she sways it around.

...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V

"So... You're... Guardian of the Spirits?" I question, Yelena sipping on her tea as she sits in front of me and Elson.

"Well," Yelena pauses, setting her drink down. "I was. It was my job as Guardian of the people," she explains, sighing. "Until they became enraged and their behavior unpredictable. Their anger is great, and their pain just. I cannot talk to them or protect them as I used to. They attack blindly and without hesitation, and seem to target me because they can sense me more than the others."

"Sense you? How?"

"They are Spirits," Yelena sighs. "Their abilities are incredible, and their powers mystical and strange. They can sense me because I have a stronger connection to them than others."

She looks at me and takes my hands, "just as they can sense you, my grandchild. They can see you are of my blood, and target you."

Elson gasps lightly, placing his arm around my shoulders, his grip slightly tight.

"Target me...?" I question, gasping as I remember the two spirits

"That must be why the Fire Spirit was chasing you... And why the Wind Spirit was trying to pull you from me," Elson realizes, narrowing his eyes and glancing down.

Yelena nods in agreement, "yes. I know not what they hope to gain in destroying us... But anger can blind the wisest of souls. So you must be careful, (Y/N)."

"I will protect her," Elson quickly replies in a firm voice, making Yelena look at him with a small smile.

"I know you will."

I smile before sighing, shaking my head with a determined look, "I promise, Elson and I will put things right again."

"We will." Elson agrees, "we've already calmed the Wind and Fire Spirit. Maybe we can do the same for Earth and Water so they'll go back to normal."

"Exactly!" I grin, jumping up in excitement. "We can do this!"

Yelena and Elson chuckle at my enthusiasm, Elson rising to his feet with a smile.

"I will have Honeymaren show you around the camp," Yelena stands, and we exit her tent. "Feel free to explore, but as I said before, be careful. These woods aren't safe."

"I have nothing to fear with '(Y/N) the Guardian' protecting me," Elson jokes with a small smile, making me snort as Yelena chuckles in amusement.

She waves Honeymaren over, smiling softly.

...

"I can't seem to get her attention," Kristoff sighs as he and Ryder walk together, Sven following. "Or even say the right thing."

"Well! You're in luck," Ryder says with a grin, "I know nothing about women." Sven snorts in concern as Kristoff raises a brow. "But! I do know we have the most amazing way of proposing. If we start now, we'll be ready by dawn."

"Really?" Kristoff grins, Ryder setting a hand on his shoulder.

"Best part?" He grins widely, jumping, "it involves a lot of reindeer!"

Kristoff raises a brow with a smile as Sven grunts in excitement, and they follow after him.

...

Anna stands besides Mattias, holding a small bowl of soup as she looks over the camp.

"Hey," he calls, clearing his throat. "Back home... Halima still over at Hudson's Hearth?"

"She is," Anna smiles, watching his face light up.

"Really? ... She married?" Mattias quickly asks, nonchalantly sipping his drink as he waits for an answer.

"Mm-mm," Anna shakes her head with a small grin, looking towards him before she sips the soup.

"Oh, wow," he breathes out before shaking his head, smiling sadly. "... Why didn't that make me feel better?"

"What else do you miss?" She questions, making him look down in thought for a moment.

"My father. He passed long before all this," Mattias replies, sighing. "He was a great man. Built us a good life in Arendelle, but taught me to never take the good for granted. He'd say, 'be prepared. Just when you think you've found your way, life will throw you onto a new path'."

Anna looks at the soup for a second before sighing. "What do you do when it does?"

"Don't give up," Mattias replies, "take it one step at a time, and..."

"Just... Do the next right thing?" Anna questions, smiling.

"Yeah. You got it," he winks with a grin, making her giggle before she looks over at Elson and (Y/N).

...

Honeymaren showed the two around the camp, showing her enthusiasm and excitement at the fact (Y/N) was related to Yelena. The three sit around a small campfire, talking.

"I just... I can't believe it!" She smiles, "not in a bad way!" Honeymaren gasps, frantically waving her arms as (Y/N) and Elson grin in amusement. "No, no! I just meant that I can't believe your parents survived. Yelena thought that they were lost, and her heart was broken. But she stayed strong to protect our people from the wrath of the Spirits."

(Y/N) nods, looking down at the baby reindeer resting on her lap before sighing. "I miss them."

Elson looks at her in sadness, frowning as he takes her hand and offers a small smile. She smiles back, squeezing his hand as Honeymaren watches with a soft grin before glancing at the shawl around her shoulders.

"I wanna show you something," she says, gaining their attention. "May I?"

(Y/N) looks at Elson, who nods with a smile. She takes off the shawl, laying it on her lap and offering it to Honeymaren.

Honeymaren holds up a piece of it, gesturing to the symbols.

"See the box surrounding the Spirits? That's the Guardian that protects them. See? Air, fire, water, and earth." She points to the center, "but, look. There's a fifth spirit, to be the bridge between us and the magic of nature."

"A fifth spirit," (Y/N) breathes out with a light gasp, looking at Elson.

"Some say they heard it call out the day the Forest fell."

"My father heard it," Elson replies, looking down at (Y/N). "Do you think that's who's calling me?"

"Maybe," Honeymaren grins, shrugging. "Alas... Only Ahtohallan knows."

"Ahtohallan," (Y/N) smiles, almost hearing Idunna's gentle melody. "Dive down deep into her sound..."

Elson looks at her with a small smile, singing along with her as Honeymaren also joins.

"But not too far or you'll be drowned..."

Elson playfully boops the nose of the reindeer, making it snort and snuggle closer between the two.

"Why do lullabies always have to have some terrible warning to them?"

"Right?" (Y/N) laughs, shaking her head.

"I wonder that all the time," Elson chuckles, nodding in agreement.

They were quiet for a moment, peaceful smiles on their faces. (Y/N) looks over at Anna, smiling and waving when they make eye contact.

She gently takes the shawl from Honeymaren, slipping it on and smiling.

"I'm gonna go check on Anna," she stands, stretching as Elson watches. "Be right back," (Y/N) presses a kiss to his cheek, making a goofy smile appear on his face as he watches her walk away.

Honeymaren grins, looking between the two and giggling.

"You're totally in love with her," she states the obvious, making him look at her. "Why not ask her hand in marriage?"

Elson's eyes widen as he nervously laughs, his cheeks flushing as he rubs his neck. "I, uh... Was planning to." Honeymaren gasps in delight, smiling and clapping.

"Yes! You should! Now, do it now!" She laughs, making him quickly shake his head.

"I can't," Elson sighs, making her frown and tilt her head. "I just... I can't find the right words. And I'm not sure now's the right time do to it. I don't know..." He looks over at (Y/N) as she and Anna laugh, Mattias fondly smiling as he looks between the two. "I love her with all my heart," he speaks softly, his voice desperate.

"Hmm," Honeymaren sighs, nodding. "Well... Our people have a way of proposing, but it doesn't seem... Like you. I believe you'll know when the moment is right. Your heart will feel it, and you'll know what to say. Even if it is rambling or stuttering," she jokes, making Elson chuckle. "Just remember why you want to propose if you freeze. You love her, and she loves you."

(Y/N) looks over at the two, giggling at Elson as he stares at her. He quickly darts his eyes away before looking back with a grin, awkwardly waving. She mimics him, making him chuckle softly.

"Thank you, Honeymaren," he quietly thanks, stroking the baby reindeer's head. "I appreciate this."

"You're welcome," she replies, both grinning at each other.

Elson gasps as the ground seems to shake, Honeymaren's eyes narrowing as more follow.

"Earth giants," she whispers, making Elson's eyes widen as he swiftly stands.

(Y/N) looks at Anna in confusion, rushing to meet Yelena. She looks around the trees, Yelana gasping.

"What are they doing down here? Unless..." Yelena looks at (Y/N) with wide eyes as Elson rushes over. "You must hide her!"

...

Everyone swiftly works, putting out the fires and blocking out light. Children whimper as Mattias quickly rushes to them, gently shushing them as he hides them.

...

Elson quickly grabs (Y/N)'s hand, pulling her and rushing behind a wide tree. He presses his back against it, holding her to his chest as the ground continues to shake.

"Grandmother!" She gasps, sighing in relief as Honeymaren quickly helps Yelena to a hiding spot.

...

Anna runs quickly, her face holding fear as she ducks behind a boulder, holding her breath.

...

The footsteps draw closer, and Olaf gasps as he ducks and hides, Bruni squeaking at him.

Olaf gasps, gently shushing him as he smiles up at him.

A footsteps causes Bruni's fire to ignite, making Olaf panic.

"They're coming!" He whispers in a panicked voice, trying to blow Bruni out, which seemed only to make his flames grow.

Olaf grabs him, shrieking and exhaling quickly as he slaps him between both hands before setting him down. He gasps as his hands light on fire, quickly waving them to try to put it out.

Bruni squeaks and leaps on Olaf's head, snuggling into the cold as the flames go out.

"This is why we don't play with fire," Olaf gasps, looking up at Bruni.

Bruni snuggles into his head, smiling down at Olaf and licking his eye.

"Oh! I can't stay mad at you. Why are you so cute?"

...

(Y/N)'s P.O.V

Elson holds me close as the footsteps get closer, and he peeks out before gasping softly.

I try to peek around him, only catching a glimpse of the large giant before quietly gasping and ducking into Elson's chest as it looks my way.

Elson whispers soothing words as I pant lightly, my heart rate up from the adrenaline of nearly getting caught.

I hear the giant grunt, and its footsteps start to fade. Elson gasps as I peek out again, walking out from the tree.

"Maybe we can... Talk to them?" I softly question as Elson joins my side.

He looks towards the giant, a slow smile spreading on his face as he nods. I quietly yelp as someone grabs my hand, Anna scoffing and raising her brows as she looks between us, pulling me down as Elson squats to our heights.

"Please tell me you two were not about to follow them," she lightly scolds.

"What if we can settle them like we did the wind and fire?" Elson asks in a whisper, looking the direction the giants left.

"Yeah! We can calm them down and then they won't be angry," I agree, Anna shaking her head as she looks between us.

"Or what if they can crush you both before you even get the chance?" Anna replies, shaking her head. "Remember, the goal is to find the voice, find the truth, and get us home."

"Home..." I mumble, looking towards Yelena.

Elson seems to notice, furrowing his brows and gasping softly with a frown.

"Hey, guys. That was close," Olaf pants, Bruni bouncing off his head and into his nose, leaping into my palm.

"I know," Elson replies, smiling at Bruni.

"The giants must have sensed us," I get their attention. "Two Guardians in one spot, and your magic? That's a lot for the Spirits to try to ignore."

Elson nods, sighing. "They may come back here. I don't want to put anyone at risk again."

"I don't, either," I agree, nodding and looking down at Bruni. "And you're right, Anna. We've got to find the voice. We should leave now."

"Okay," Anna nods, "we're going. Let me just..."

Elson and I pause as Anna looks around, and I notice someone was gone.

"Where's Kris?" I question as she continues to look around.

"And Sven?" Anna agrees, narrowing her eyes.

"Oh, yeah. I think they took off with that Ryder guy and a bunch of reindeer." Olaf casually replies.

"They... Left?"

"Mm-hmm," Olaf nods, smiling.

"Just left without saying anything?" Anna questions, her voice holding hurt.

"Who knows the ways of men?" Olaf shrugs, walking and joining Elson.

I glance back to the camp with concern, looking back to Anna as she looks at the ground with a frown.

"Don't tell me you're leaving without saying goodbye," Yelena's voice chuckles, Anna looking between us before smiling sadly and joining Elson and Olaf.

"Grandmother... I don't want your-- our people in danger," I admit, sighing as she nods. "The sooner we set things right, the sooner the Spirits and Forest will be back to normal, and you won't be in danger."

"I understand," Yelena smiles, hugging me. "Be careful, my grandchild. I don't think I have to worry much, however. That young man seems like he will protect you regardless of what danger it is."

I smile widely, looking back at the group. Elson tilts his head with a nervous grin, waiting for me.

"Stay safe, grandmother," I sigh with a smile, hugging her tightly before pulling away. "We'll set things right. I promise."

Yelena nods with a smile, grasping my cheeks and placing a kiss on my forehead.

"I have faith you will succeed." She softly says, making me grin as I rush to join the others.

Elson smiles, taking my hand and chuckling as I place a kiss on his cheek, and we start walking.

I look back at Anna, who looks back at the camp sadly before shaking her head and following, leaving Kristoff behind.
