"So, here's the plan: we leave now. Not in a few minutes, not in an hour, but now."
I look at them, making sure they're following what I'm saying. They nod.
"But do we need anything? Like weapons?" Chelsea always needs to be prepared, whether it's our state test or a birthday party.
"Not really, but if you think of anything, let us know."
"Got it," came her reply.
Sarah calmed down since she told us she'd come, but we still had the knowledge that she was broken inside.
"Let's move, then. We don't have all day, especially with Mr. and Mrs. Landen around here, and they know we don't sleep that late." Chelsea asks quietly to the door and opens it. She knows how to open a door so quietly I wouldn't wake up!
As if Sarah could read my thoughts, she wonders out loud, "Wait. If you're such a light sleeper, why didn't you wake up?" Chelsea looks at me, asking with her facial expressions, Yeah, why?
It's all enough to bring tears into my eyes. I could saved her, but I didn't. I could've fought them off, with everyone in the house waking up and helping. Her parents could've found evidence. But, instead, I ignored the noises.
Sarah senses she hit a bad spot.
"I'm sorry," she apologizes. "I really am. I didn't think."
"It's alright," I forgive her. "But it's my fault."
"No, that's what you think now that I've said that."
"But it's true. You didn't hear what I have to say." I tell her about my dream, then how I woke up, what I heard. It really is my fault.
"Don't worry. Id guarantee that if I heard that, I'd say something about rainbow unicorns." I don't know why, but I laugh quietly for a second. I just haven't been able to since I discovered the tunnel.
"We still need to go," Chelsea interrupts.
"She's right," I agree. "Let's go now. Don't forget to close the door."
"I won't, and I'll do it the quietest I've ever done it."
"Great. Are you ready Sarah?" I leave the room.
"Yep," She whispers back.
"Then let's head out."
"Sounds good to me."
And with that, we leave Sarah's room behind. After that, we leave her house behind for our most dangerous adventure yet.
