Chapter-28

I pressed my palms flat against the window, craning my neck to see if I could spot my parents. I had tried to call them again and again but the calls hadn't even gone through.

Even though it was nearly impossible to make anything out in the chaos in front of the hospital, I still had to try. We had reached North Wellsington half an hour ago and the whole town looked like it had gone to pieces. Bus stops, benches, trees and fences lay broken on the ground. The whole area was swarming with people. Infected people were being carried off by health workers and doctors.

My phone buzzed. It was Ana again.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hello? Nell! We are at the bus stand. Where are you?"

"At the hospital."

"I just checked the records and found that they have been keeping those infected the same time as Tess in an old warehouse turned hospital. I will text you the directions. We are heading there now. Come as soon as possible."

Sticking the phone back in my pocket, I told the directions to Cali who nodded and took off at full speed. Zeno and Cali were going to be dropping me off to my friends and after that, they were heading to find some people from their neighbourhood who had been infected and had managed to make it here.

About half an hour later, Cali stopped the car in front of an old warehouse. Doctors dressed in spotless white hovered around the doors, checking names off their clipboards.

I gulped in some air, trying to calm myself. For so long, I had been trying to track down my family and contact them. Now, finally, after weeks I was going to see them again. I didn't know if I was ready for it.

We climbed out of the car and Cali hugged me.

"It was nice knowing you Nell. Remember to get that nasty cut looked at. And kick some zombie ass for me."
I couldn't help smiling as I hugged her back.

"Thanks for everything. I couldn't have made it without you two."

To my surprise, I found Zeno sobbing.

"Man, I hate goodbyes."

I fist-bumped him and grinned.

"Bad Baby gives you her love." He said wiping his eyes.

Cali patted him on the back and both of them drove away. I waved until my arm was tired and turned back to go in."

"I'm here to see my sister Tess." I informed the guard at the door.

"Room 14. Second floor." he replied curtly.

"Nell?" I turned around and saw Ana standing with Axel, Bria and Charles. I hugged her and smiled at Axel, Bria and Charles. It was really great to see them after so long.

"She's in room 14." I said quietly. I felt terribly nervous about seeing her now. Ana squeezed my hand and together we went up the stairs. Stopping in front of the door, I raised my hand to knock. To my surprise, I saw it was shaking. Steeling myself, I pushed open the door.
