Chapter-21

I woke up with a start. My head was pounding. I groaned and put my hand behind my head, which came away with flecks of half-dried blood. The events of last night flashed before my eyes. I got up and looked around me. I saw I was in a jeep, sitting beside the driver seat. I tried to open the car door, but it was locked. Gritting my teeth, I shoved against it with all my might, but it failed to open. I checked my pockets and saw that my phone and a knife which I always kept on me were missing.

I started panicking and forced myself to calm down. I crawled to the backseat and tried to find some sort of object with which I could break the glass. I spotted a duffel bag lying in the trunk and unzipped it. It was filled with clothes but had nothing else in it. I was considering throwing myself at the glass, but at that very moment, the car door opened and Harry climbed inside.

"Awake so soon?" he asked grinning.

"Why are you doing this?" I cried. "Weren't you supposed to be fighting zombies to protect people?"

"I was," he said, running a hand through his sandy hair. "Except there is just one little problem. I got bitten during the last fight."

"Bitten?" I asked. "But what has that got to do with all this?" I waved my arms, gesturing towards the car.

"I need to reach North Wellsington as soon as I can in order to get the cure. I would never have reached in time with all those people lagging behind."

"So you kidnapped me?" I said, hysterically.

"See, we might not be able to reach in three days. So I might have to need your blood so that I can keep going."

"Have you lost it? They won't be able to cure you once you turn into a zombie."

"You don't know that do you?" he said, raising his eyebrows.

"Of course I do," I screamed at him. "It's freaking common sense."

"Why don't you shut up?" he said savagely.

"I can't believe I trusted you." I moaned, leaning back into the seat.

My phone rang. I looked around and saw he had kept my phone on the dashboard. I leaned over and saw it was Ana. My fingers itched to answer it, but I knew Harry would snatch it away. Ana kept calling for some time and then finally stopped. I had to get away from Harry. He was completely deranged. I thought hard, gnawing my lip in frustration. No escape plan came to mind.

My phone rang again. I casually glanced at it and got up in shock. My mom had finally called me back.
