Chapter-13
"Are you sure it's the right cure?" asked Zeno. "I mean why would they have the actual cure here on display where anyone can just steal it?"
"I mean, he's not wrong," I said slowly. It made sense.
Cali pursed her lips.
"Not many people would have made it here," said Ana. "Besides, there are guards out at the front. I think it's the right cure."
Before any of us could reply, we heard approaching footsteps. All of us ducked into a narrow corridor behind us. Two scientists and a few men in expensive suits came in talking loudly.
"I suppose we can trust this mystical cure?" asked the man who was leading the group. His accent was a little strange and he spoke slowly.
"Yes, sir." said one of the scientists. "If you managed to stabilize them before their initial three days were up."
"Who is the cure for sir?" squeaked the other one.
"It's none of your business." snapped one of the men standing at the back. They appeared to be bodyguards.
"Yia, Yia." said the first man with the strange accent softly. "Is that any way to talk to men of science? Apologize at once."
"There is no need-"
The bodyguard promptly apologized.
"Sir the cure." said the first scientist, drawing my attention back to the glass case which he'd unlocked with a special key hanging from his belt.
"We have to grab it now!" hissed Cali.
"What?" I whispered back. "Have you lost it? These men could be armed!"
"We won't get a chance to get that key later!" she shot back. "Besides, Zeno is armed too."
"You would murder living people?" I asked indignantly.
"Shut up Axel," she ordered. "You worry too much."
She sighed. "But you're right. Which is why I have a plan."
I nodded. Cali was our best hope for getting the cure. Even though her plan was totally crazy, we decided to go along with it.
Ana let down her hair which had grown longer during the time we'd travelled. Putting on her lab coat, she hurried towards those men.
"Sir, there is a security breach!" she shrieked. "All of us have been called to the main office."
They looked startled and hurried after her.
"Who are you?" demanded the scientist with the key. Ana slowed down her pace and fell to the back of the group. The man with the weird accent had already pocketed his cure.
"I am an intern here, sir. I was sent to find you." She said, keeping her hair on her face. Cali and I had been following her while Zeno had gone up ahead.
"Stop!" he yelled, pointing Bad Baby at the men in front. Everyone stopped. Zeno fired at the floor and suddenly, there was chaos. I knocked out the scientist with the key while Cali grabbed it and made her way towards the case. Grabbing as many bottles of the purple stuff as we could, we ran towards the stairs. Ana and Zeno joined us as we hurried to find the exit. My heart was thumping loudly and singing happily at the same time. We had the cure.
