Chapter Fourteen: "You'll Be Alone With Me Then."
I stared up at the ceiling. Fuck, my throat hurts. I tried to swallow, but the only outcome was more pain.
"Fuck," I managed to choke out.
I sat up, wondering if I should really go down to eat breakfast. I could smell pancakes, my favorite. I looked around for my slippers when I jumped off my bed. At the corner of my eye, I noticed a red stain on my beautiful white bed. I groan and ran my bed sheet to the laundry room.
After letting the washing machine run with my beautiful bed sheet, I sat down with ease. I hardly ever wore pj shorts to sleep, but when I do, surprisingly that's the same week I'm on my period. I thought everything went well until I notice a trail of red liquid from my room. I mentally slapped myself. Also the place I'm sitting at the moment must already be stained with blood.
"Ahh, testing, testing. Okay, I'm able to talk now," I hated my morning voice. I sound like a dying lama. This is a great time to call mom.
"MOM, MOM, MOM, MA, MA, MA, MOMMY, MOMMY, MOMMY, MUM, MU-" I yelled multiple times.
"I'm here," mom announced, suddenly appearing by the door.
I looked up at her, hoping she gets the message. "Did you kill someone? Don't tell me who or when or what you used, the less I know, the less I can say anything in court," she looks around, curiously.
"Yes, that definitely explains why there's no corpse to be seen," I dully stared at her, giving her my are-you-kidding-me look.
"That's because you hid the body and that's why it's nowhere to be seen," giving me a taste of of my own sarcasm. "I already know you're on your period. Just get up and put on a pair of fresh clothes," she smiled, helping me up.
"You're getting good at being sarcastic," I laughed.
"I learn from the best," referring to me.
I did what I was told. I wore my favorite black jeans paired with a cute white sweater. Lastly, I wore my favorite fuzzy unicorn socks, don't judge me.
As I was walking down the stairs, I suddenly got a cramp. I tried to shake my foot, but its gone numb. "Matthew carry me down the stairs please!" Soon I spot Matthew at the end of the staircase, looking like he will explode from laughter.
"Your voice sounds so weird and nice socks," Matthew commented, carrying me bridal style. I just stayed silent, drooling at the smell of freshly made chocolate chip pancakes.
Finally my wish came true and I'm finally munching on my chocolate chip pancake topped with whip cream and strawberries. Heaven. I got up to get another bottle of whip cream.
"Love is an open doorrrr," I sang. "An open door to my stomach," I cried happily, opening the fridge. I returned to my seat and continue to fall into food coma.
"You're so cute when you eat buttercup," Matthew rests his head on the table, gazing up at me.
I felt so uncomfortable eating while someone watches me. "Drop the name," I sneer after swallowing my food. I hate it when you're eating and someone is talking to you. When it's your turn to talk you have to quickly swallow so food won't splatter everywhere when you speak and there won't be an awkward silence. I prefer to take my time eating.
"Butter-cup," he smirked, popping the p.
"I will murder you in your sleep," I warn. I easily snap especially on my period, so don't you dare mess with me.
A shadow fell upon Matthew and I. I quickly glanced at Matthew, he sat froze in his seat, so did I when I felt a heavy hand rest itself on my shoulder.
"You kids playing nice?" dad bends down to our level hoping to make eye contact.
I ignore his stare, nodding my head, wordlessly.
"Good," patting both of our heads.
Finally, I breath out after holding it in for so long after dad patted our heads for five minutes.
"Now you know what I had to live through these past years,"
"Yeah, I know what you mean. Having a police officer as your dad, isn't the best protection in the world."
"He changed now, moms the source of his smiles,"
"And we're his source of his death glares," I add.
"That's a bit harsh. But it's nice to finally have a mom, not to mention annoying little sister."
"Yeah it's a fresh start for all of us. I mean, having a dad is fun, not to mention having a dickhead as a brother," I grin.
"As expected from Valerie, harsh words as usual. That reminds me, who's older?" Matthew curiously asks.
"What time were you born?" enjoying my food coma.
"10:20pm,"
The moment you try to be serious, but you accidentally smile.
"What's with that smile? Don't tell me. . .,"
"I'm older than you, by exactly two hours! HA!" I rub in his face.
After laughing to damn hard, I leaned back and stared at the colorless ceiling. My, my, it was such an interesting view. I noticed movement at the corner of my right eye.
Dad placed his hands on the counter, prisoning mom between his arms. Mom looked like a fresh picked tomato, even her ears are burning lava. Dad on the other hand, seemed the enjoy the sight of her embarrassed. He swiftly slid his arms around moms waist and rested his head on her shoulder. I saw mom tense up a bit. It's always been mom and I so having two other guys around the house, feels a lot different. During the past weeks, Matthew slept in the guest room while dad tried to get mom to sleep in the same bed.
"Ava, I said sleep, not fuck," dad said.
You should have seen moms face! In her head she must have been like, 'Don't put that dirty word in the same sentence as my name, especially in front of the kids,"
Matthew and I just shared gagging glances.
"My dear parents, we are going to go now," Matthew said, helping me escape before I die cringing.
Looking back, mom had the don't-leave-me-alone-with-this-man kind of look. In the end, sorrowful dad walked alone to the master bedroom while mom stayed behind and slept with me. My ears were bleeding when mom rambled on about her love problems. Again, you couples are a disgrace to simple potatoes. Seriously, if you compare a potato and me, I promise you will see no difference.
"Don't look now, but mom and dad is eye fucking," I whispered, ducking my head sheepishly under the table.
"No need to tell me twice. You should help her. She looks like she's going to explode into millions of tiny tomatoes," Matthew replies, in a gagging manner.
"Got it," I whispered. "Mom!" I called from the table.
I heard mom say, "Wait, Valerie is calling me. Be right back," escaping dads grip. I just wanted to applause mom on how good her excuses are.
"Yes?" She smiled, standing beside the table.
I almost forgot what I had to ask her, "May I go visit the abandoned church?"
Mom gives it a little thought, "Sure, but bring Matthew, he's also a Bliss after all. You two better be back before 5:30,"
I just wanted to add, 'You're going to be alone with dad for a few hours, are you alright with that?'
Surprisingly dad comes up behind mom and whispers, "You'll be alone with me then."
Mom instantly turns red, "M-Matthew," she suddered. "You want to help me out with the kitchen while Valerie visits the abandoned church?"
Dad frowned.
"Sorry mom, I'm actually interested in this abandoned church," Matthew gets up and pulls me up with him. "Good luck dad," picking me up to carry my bridal style, again.
Good move Matthew, good move.
"Don't worry son, we'll be alright," dad winks, placing his arm around moms shoulder.
I glanced at mom, her pledging face told me to stay. I smiled at mom, reassuring her everything will be alright. Sorry mom, you can't run from dad forever.
Walking quietly upstairs, Matthew and I tried to contain our laughter.
