Fintan is always teasing Bronte, but if you think about it he has never hurt him.

If you have read most of my fics, you will know I love the misunderstood villan trope. Fintan is the perfect example. He was shunned and forced to resign. 

(It is my head-canon that he was beguiled by someone in the Neverseen.)
