Chapter 35. Save The Nachos!

I don't understand any of this.

More people cheer in victory when one of our players goes sprinting off down the field, a football clutched tightly to his chest while the opposing team chases after him. That just looks terrifying.

"Does anyone else not understand what's going on?"

Gina snorts and shakes her head 'no', "I have very little idea as to what is happening other than," She stops abruptly and jumps up in her seat, "OH! That guy just got hit!"

Zander laughs loudly, "For someone who didn't even want to come, you seem pretty excited."

Gina shrugs indifferently and sits back down, "I can't help it, I enjoy the slight undertones of violence."

I roll my eyes as a grin spreads across my face, "Of course you do, you violent chipmunk." She laughs in response and we all fall back into watching the game. So far, our team is losing by two points with only few more minutes till half time. I search the field for Keagen's number, but draw a blank. What number was he again? I frown and pull out my phone, checking the text with all the info again.

Game starts at 6:30 p.m. and admissions are five dollars per person. My number is 49 , hope to see you there! :) - Keagen

Zander rests his chin on my shoulder, his arm snaking around me and pulling my body against his chest. "What's that?" He questions into my cheek, his lips pressing small kisses against my skin. I smile softly and turn off my phone, looking back out into the field and leaning more into his hold.

"Keagen's text about the information, I still can't seem to find him on the field."

"I think I see him?" Gina squints her eyes and points towards the middle of the field, "39 was his number, right?"

I let out a small laugh, "No, 49. Maybe he's just on the sidelines right now?"

Zander breathes in deeply, causing chills to rise across my skin. "Don't worry about it, Cupcake. He'll be on the field soon enough."

I can't help the giggle that passes my lips. Turning slightly, I look back at him with a grin. "Sounds like you're jealous, fruit loop." Zander grumbles in response, hiding his face in the crook of my neck and tightening his hold around me so I can't turn around again. I catch Gina's eyes and we share knowing looks before both busting up into a fit of giggles. I reach back and lightly pat his hair, "Don't worry, I only have eyes for you."

I feel a slight pinch on my shoulder, causing me to squeak in surprise. Zander laughs and pulls away from my neck, his eyes shining in victory. I gap at him and touch my neck, my nose twisting up in disgust when my fingers are met with a wet spot.

"Did you just bite me?!"

He looks away innocently, "I don't know what you're talking about." I turn to Gina for help, only to get a wide grin before she looks away as well. I turn back towards Zander and smack his shoulder playfully.

"Just because you call me Cupcake doesn't actually make me edible."

"Well, technically, humans are edible." Gina adds in, grinning smugly when I give her a deadpan look.

Zander turns back around with a thoughtful look. Gina and I both raise an eyebrow at him while he stares off into the distance. He gets up suddenly, a few people behind us giving their protests. He looks back down at us and points towards the food stand,

"Speaking of edible, I'm gonna go get some food. Do you want anything?"

Gina gets up too, earning us some more unwanted attention from other students. She stretches slightly and grabs her bag, "I think I'm gonna go too, I'll meet you at the stand!" She quickly goes down the bleachers, disappearing into the crowd of people.

I look back up to Zander with a small smile, "Could you get me some nachos, extra cheese?"

He nods and smiles softly, leaning down to lightly kiss my forehead then he's off down the bleachers as well. My cheeks burn brightly when I'm left alone to deal with all the prying eyes of the earlier protesters, basically shrinking into myself as I wait. Please, hurry up!

Minutes pass by before they finally come back. The game clock has declared halftime and the players are running off the field to their respective sides.

"What'd we miss?" Gina plops down on the bleacher beside me, Zander taking his seat on the opposite side of me. I look over at the outstretched bowl of nachos excitedly, my mouth watering at the sight. Sweet mother of fudge, they're beautiful. I reach out to take them, almost screaming when Gina pulls them away from me with a suspicious look on her face. I look over at her frantically when the bowl wobbles a little too much. She bursts into a fit of giggles, moving the bowl out of my reach again and again whenever I reach for it. Zander laughs at my dismay, even helping by reaching over my head to take the bowl from Gina.

"Don't drop it!" I squeal, my heart beating wildly against my chest. Save the nachos!

Zander, bless his kind heart, finally hands me the nachos with an adorable smile on his face. I turn to Gina with a playful glare, even popping one of the chips in my mouth for effect. She rolls her eyes and steals a chip, popping it in her mouth the same way as me.

I cradle the bowl possessively against my chest, "To answer the question you asked before trying to murder my nachos, you didn't miss much. I believe they're about to start the half time thingy." I gesture towards the field before shoving a bunch of chips in my mouth, my eyes fluttering closed at the wonderful taste.

"That is going to make for a wonderful wallpaper." Zander smirks evilly, pressing some buttons on his phone then turning it to show us the pic. My eyes widen and I struggle not to choke on the chips still stuffed in my mouth.

"Oh my gosh, that's gold!! Send that to me!" Gina laughs so hard tears start streaming down her cheeks. I glare at Zander darkly and swallow my mouthful, quickly trying to grab his phone before he can send the picture.

"Delete it!"

"Never!" He puts his phone out of reach, laughing loudly at my expense.

"Oh hey! There's Jenny!"

I send a glare towards Zander then looks back at the field, instantly spotting Jenny in the center getting ready for their dance. She searches the crowd for a second then spots us, her face instantly lighting up as she waves up at us. We grin and wave back, well Gina and I do anyways, then settle back down in our seats. We'll definitely have to bring her more into the group.

My eyes roam the field a little, locking onto a certain blonde haired monster. She glares around at all the other cheerleaders, mainly Jenny, barking out orders on where to stand.

"Who shoved the stick up her butt?" Gina scoffs loudly, glaring down at Samantha. I shrug and look away, forcing my nerves to calm down. She's down there, Sarah, you're safe. The band starts playing loudly and the cheerleaders start doing their routines. Jenny quickly takes over the show, smiling wide and leading the rest in perfection. Samantha glowers her way every chance she gets, even trying her best to knock Jenny out of routine.

"Someone's salty." I mutter under my breath, rolling my eyes and looking back down at my food, no longer interested in the show. I swear, she ruins everything for me.

"Holy shit, did she actually just do that?!" Zander gawks down at the field, Gina covering her mouth in shock as well. I frown and look back at the cheerleaders, my jaw falling slack at the sight.

"Holy fudge nuts, Jenny broke her leg?!" My hands fly up to cover my mouth, my eyes so wide they could roll right out of my head. Samantha stands to the side smiling smugly. People rush down to the field to help, and eventually the EMT's arrive as well with a stretcher. Jenny winces painfully with every step they take, but doesn't even cry. No, instead she sends a deadly glare to Samantha before she's loaded into the ambulance and taken off to the hospital.

"Alright, due to the unfortunate circumstances, we will be starting the game again now without continuing the show. Good luck, players!" Our principle awkwardly waves to the crowd then jogs off the field, all the players rushing back to take his place.

"Oh hey, now I see Keagen." I point towards the center field where Keagen is huddled. The timer goes off and the players immediately crash into one another. I cringe back into my seat, Oh my goodness that's gotta hurt.

Zander softly kisses my cheek and smiles down at me widely, "I'll see you tomorrow, Cupcake." I smile back up at him, my heart melting in my chest. He kisses my cheek again before turning away and jogging towards his bike, then waves at us and pulls out of the parking lot. Gina sighs softly from beside me, her eyes trained on something in the distance. I stand on my tip-toes to see over the mass of people, a wide smirk spreading across my face when I finally spot what, or I should say who, she's looking at.

"Why don't you just go talk to him?"

She spins around with an appalled look on her face, "No way!" She blushes brightly, her eyes falling to look at her boots, "Besides, I highly doubt he likes me back. No use getting my hopes up too high, right?"

I shake my head and grab hold of her shoulders, making her turn her attention back towards me. "Listen," I duck my head a bit to catch her eyes, smiling sincerely, "You are beautiful and have such a wonderful personality. Any guy would be lucky to have you."

Her eyes search my face before a smile breaks out across her lips and she's pulling me into a tight hug. I laugh softly and hug her back just as tightly.

"Shut up, you sap." She mumbles against my shoulder, causing me to laugh even more.

"I hope I'm not interrupting anything?" Keagen smiles softly, looking back and forth at us. Gina lets me go and steps back, her blush returning.

"Nah, you're not." She looks back to me and points towards the parking lot, "I'll go get the car, okay?"

I nod in agreement, then she turns away while waving goodbye to Keagen and disappears into the crowd of people. I turn back to him with a small smile, nodding towards the now semi-empty field.

"You guys did great out there."

He smiles and actually blushes slightly, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. "Thanks, it was pretty tough but we did it." He looks away for a second, obviously thinking over what he's going to say next. I awkwardly shift on my feet, looking towards the parking lot for Gina's car.

"I was wondering," His voice trails off, bringing my attention away from the parking lot. He notices that I'm looking at him and continues on, "My birthday is coming up and I was wondering if you, and of course the others, would want to come to mine for like a mini party?"

I think about it for a second, I mean it couldn't be that bad right? It'll be fun! Gina's car pulls up beside us, her windows down and music blasting. I glance back at her then smile at Keagen while getting in, "Yeah sure! Just text me the details!" I shout over the music. He smiles widely and nods, giving me a thumbs up before Gina pulls away. I sit back into my seat and buckle up, pulling out my phone to send a quick text to Zander.

On my way home now. Goodnight, fruit loop :) -S

Gina sings loudly, drumming along to the beat of the song on the steering wheel. I smile happily, my heart feeling light and airy. I rest my head back against the seat, closing my eyes happily. My phone buzzes in my hand, the text back melting me into a little puddle.

Goodnight, my beautiful (and tasty) Cupcake ;) -Z
