Chapter 21. Wondering.

"Hey, Sarah?" I look up from my chemistry book to meet Keagen's eyes.

"Yeah?" I smile up at him, shutting my book and turning my full attention towards him.

His blue eyes looking nervously down at me, his smile hesitant. Awe, he's so cute when he's nervous. "I was uh - wondering . . ."

"Wondering . . ?" I smile up at him, my heart beating erratically in my chest. Wondering what??

He pulls out a chair from beside me and sits down, his knee bouncing up and down anxiously. Gently, he reaches forward and grabs my hand, awkwardly playing with my fingers. He looks over at me, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath then opens his mouth to speak,

"I was wondering - "

"Hey, guys! What - Did I interrupt something?" Gina plops down beside me, glancing between Keagen and I curiously.

"N-no you didn't it's okay, I'll find you later." He smiles at me and quickly gets up, leaving the library in a dash. I stare after him bewildered, then shake it off and turn to Gina with a smile.

She raises her eyebrow questioningly and points towards where Keagen scurried off, "What was that all about?"

I shrug and open my book again, paging through it to find my place. "No idea, guess I'll find out later."

Gina only hums in response, taking out her own book to study as well.

"Sarah!" I jump slightly and turn around, stopping along the sidewalk as Keagen runs up to me. I was just on my way home from school, seeing as Gina had to go home early and couldn't give me a ride, when he started running after me.

"Yeah?" I awkwardly pull my strap of my heavy book bag up onto my shoulder more, the thick material jabbing into my skin uncomfortably.

He catches up to me quickly and then smiles down at me brightly, "Mind if I walk you home?"

My cheeks flush bright pink and I shyly respond, "Sure, if you want."

He grins even more then points towards my bag, "May I help you with that?" My heart warms and I nod, taking the bag off my shoulder and handing it over to him. He slings it over his shoulder, making it look lighter than a feather. Such a gentleman he is.

"Thanks." I smile and turn, continuing my walk with Keagen walking beside me this time.

"You're welcome. So um - about earlier . . ." He trails off, as if stopping himself.

I look over at him curiously, "Yeah, you said you had a question?" I smile at his nervous state, his blonde hair lightly dipping down across his eyes as he walks, the freckles across his cheeks seeming more prominent in the evening light.

He bites his lip softly, sending my heart into overdrive. I look away, focusing on my feet hitting the broken up cement underneath them.

"Yes, I was uh wondering if uh . . ." He stubbles over his words, trailing off and looking down at his fingers nervously.

"Keagen, just spit it out already." I huff, looking over at him as the curiosity slowly kills me. My house shows up into view, the driveway only a few steps away. Oh, I should go in and watch some supernatural, or maybe read that new book I got last week!

Keagen grabs my hand and pulls me to a stop, his breathing heavy and uneven. He shuts his eyes tightly, then opens them and looks right into mine.

"I was wondering if you would go out with me Friday, as a date. O-or whenever you're free to, it doesn't have to be on Friday it can be whenever it doesn't really matter when I just - "

I stare up at him with wide eyes, my heart basically stopping in my chest. Is this really happening? A huge grin spreads across my face, my head instantly shaking up and down.

"I would love to." The words cut off his rambling, coming out breathily and uneven. He stops mid-sentence and takes the words in, then grins down at me too.

"Really?" He shyly looks at me, hope glittering in his eyes.

"Yeah." I giggle softly, a blush rising across my cheeks. He sighs in relief and gently pulls me closer, his hand moving down to cradle mine.

"Will tomorrow at six work for you?" He bites his lip again, drawing my eyes down to it for a second before flickering back up to his clear blue eyes.

"Tomorrow will be perfect." I lightly squeeze his hand, reassuring him of my answer.

"Okay, I uh guess I'll be over then. Wear something casual." He smiles and slowly let's go of my hand, taking a step back and clearing his throat.

"Okay, see you then." I giggle and wave goodbye, watching as he turns and walks away. I sigh softly in content, then turn towards my own house.

"Wait!" Keagens voice halts me, causing me to whip around quickly. He runs back over to me, lightly panting as he reaches behind him. He slings my bag off his shoulder and holds it out for me. "I forgot to give your bag back." He smiles sheepishly, awkwardly running his hand on the back of his neck.

I blush and take it from him, throwing it back over my shoulder. "Thank you for bringing it back."

"Of course, see you tomorrow." He smiles and walks off again, his hands shoved in his pockets and a slight bounce to his step. I shake my head and smile, finally turning to walk up my driveway. The house is silent as always when I walk in, nothing but the sound of my own footsteps across the wooden floors.

I pull out my phone and dial up Gina's number, gently biting my lip to stop myself from grinning like an idiot.

"Hello?" She answers immediately, sounds of shuffling coming from her end then the sound of a door shutting behind her.

"Are you busy?" I stare down at the countertop, deciding to make myself a sandwich.

"Nah, what's up Chica?" She shuffles some more then I hear her jump onto her bed, sounds of bags opening up then being dug in. I swear, this girl eats more than a horse.

"Well, Keagen walked me home today . . ." I trial off, a huge grin spreading across my face when I recall the adorable way he would kick at the stones as he tried to gain his composure.

"And, so?" She quizzes, loudly chomping down on chips and whatever else she could be eating.

"And he asked me out . . . Like, on a date." I close my eyes and pull my phone away from my ear, bracing myself for the screams of joy from her end.

They never come. I look over at my phone confused, checking to make sure she's still on the line. I bring it back up to my ear, "Gina? You still there?"

"W-what? He did wh-what?!" She sputters, coughing when she finally responds. Shock is laced through her voice, making me even more confused.

"Yeah, a date. You're not mad are you? You seem upset. Did you . . . Did you have a crush on him or something?"

Gina's P.O.V.

"Did you have a crush on him or something?" Sarah whispers shocked into the phone, my reaction obviously not what she was expecting.

I cough again and quickly shake my head, then realize she can't see me. "No! No it's not like that!!" The words basically falling out of my mouth, "I just, don't you think it's a little soon?" I bite my lip and close my eyes tightly, praying I haven't upset her. Zander, you owe me big time for this.

"Well . . . Well I don't know, doesn't hurt to go right?" She asks, her voice filling with doubt. I sigh softly, my heart clenching uncomfortably in my chest at the sound of her saddened voice. I can't do this to her.

"No it doesn't. I'm happy for you, when is it? I'll come over and help you get ready!" I let the excitement take over me again, the same excitement I repressed earlier for the sake of the Zarah ship. They're so cute and they don't even realize it.

Her voice changes back, happiness evident through the line. "It's tomorrow at six!"

I smile and nod, closing up my bag of chips. "Alright, I'll be over then!"

She giggles and says alright, then we both hang up. I huff out and dial up Zander's number, immediately getting an answer.

"Hello?"

"We've got a problem."

His breath hitches, "What's the problem?"

I take a deep breath, flopping down to lay on my back as I prepare to break the news to him. "Keagen asked Sarah out on a date. Tomorrow."

The line goes quiet and I have to press my ear closer to the phone just to hear his slight breathing. I bite my lip, shutting my eyes tiredly. Finally, he takes a deep breath and laughs darkly, the sound pushing through the little phone speakers.

"Well, fuck."
