Chapter 11. It Was Only A Dream.
I haven't been able to fall asleep since the dream. More like nightmare. Every time I close my eyes, the images flash in my head and they open right away. I glance over at my clock to see it read 5:34 a.m., school doesn't start till 8:00 a.m. I want to sleep but there's no way I can.
I pull out my laptop from my headstand drawer, logging onto Netflix to watch some Supernatural episodes. Maybe the sound of demon hunting will calm me down . . .
I snort at myself and start laughing at the thought, who knows? Maybe demon hunting is what soothes me at night. I relax against the wall and begin my morning with Sam and Dean's voices.
~~~~~~~~~~
I wake up to the sound of my alarm going off. Groggily I roll over and push the off button. I stretch my legs out only to kick the side of my laptop and almost send it flying to the floor. Thankfully, my blanket caught it and stopped it from falling. Problem is, said blanket is also wrapped around my leg. If I move, it goes to the floor. I bite my lip and slowly reach out toward my blanket, barely able to reach it but still able to grab a hold of it. I quickly yank on the blanket and pull it back up. Thank goodness, there there laptop, you're safe now.
I get out of bed and rush to get ready for school. The dream is still playing in my head, but I push it to the back of my mind. It was only a dream, okay? Just . . . Stop worrying about it.
Fifteen minutes later I'm ready to go and Gina is outside waiting for me. See, the dream isn't even coming true. I smile to myself and walk outside. Gina waves excitedly and beeps her horn, making me jump out of my skin and clutch at my heart. I see her start busting up laughing so I glare at her and march towards the passenger side. Opening the door was a mistake, considering that her laughter was so loud it could have made my ear drums bleed. I roll my eyes and slam the door shut, crossing my arms and pouting slightly.
"You could have killed me, I could have gotten a heart attack!" I glare towards her, then pout again. Her laughter grows louder, and she starts beating in the steering wheel.
Finally she calms down and wipes fake tears from her eyes, "Ah, maybe, but did you die?" She looks over at me with a devilish grin and puts the car in reverse.
"I almost did!" I screech, throwing my hands up in the air and looking at her with disbelief.
She nods in agreement but then glances over at me, "But did you?" Her knowing smirk makes me grumble in response and cross my arms angrily. Call me childish, I don't care, but she scared me! I have a right to be mad! She busts up laughing again at my expression.
I pout towards her again and mutter a low, "Whatever," and turn to look out the window until we pull into the school parking lot.
"Alright class, today we will be making a simple French Toast Recipe. I know, I know, you're probably thinking 'When will we get to actually make cakes and stuff?' Trust me, it'll be here soon enough!" He smiles and begins to explain how to properly make French toast then allows us to begin.
"How about you crack the eggs this time . . ." Zander gives me an innocent smile and hands me the eggs, taking care of the bread himself. I smile softly and nod, taking the eggs from him and cracking them onto the plate.
Grabbing the fork, I smile over at him and hold it out towards him. "Wanna mix up the eggs?" He smiles widely and nods like a little boy being given candy, then starts mixing the eggs while I get the bread ready and heat the pan.
After about five to ten minutes, we have two pieces of French toast made and even had some strawberries and banana's chopped up to place on top of them, giving it a nice look.
We might actually pass this time! Me and Zander grin and high five, preparing to present our dish to Mr. Barns.
He finally comes over to our table and tries our toast, actually smiling this time when he takes a bite of it. "Well done, you two! Very nice take on French Toast." He smiles and walks away, leaving me and Zander with goofy grins plastered on our faces.
Mine of course vanishes when Zander leans over to whisper in my ear.
"I still need to talk to you, Cupcake." I feel him smirk against my cheek and move away, his eyes looking at me smugly while my mind tries to form words but seeming to forget simple English.
"W-what?" I stutter and start fiddling with my locket, staring up at him with wide eyes.
"Meet me in the closet under the steps. See you later, Cupcake." With that he leaves the class in a hurry, I didn't even notice that he had already gathered all his things and had his bag ready.
Slowly I start gathering my items, my body shaking with nerves and a slight sweat starting to form. I was moving so slow that the whole class left before I even had half my stuff back in my bag. Mr. Barns walks over to my table, a soft smile on his face but concern in his eyes.
"Miss. Jones, are you alright, dear? You seem a bit shaken up." I nod quickly, giving him a fake smile of reassurance.
"Yes, Sir. I'm okay." I stuff the last bit of my items into my bag and throw it over my shoulder, about to dart out the door as soon as Mr. Barns gives me the go-ahead.
He nods and points towards the toast, "You did great today, Sarah. I can see you going places."
I smile genuinely this time and nod, "Thank you, Sir. I try." By now my small smile has grown into a full blown grin and so has his.
"You're welcome, dear. Now hurry along, don't want to miss your ride home." He pats my shoulder goodbye and then turns to walk back to his desk.
"Yes, Sir. Thanks again!" I go towards the door and open it, but before I can leave I hear him call out once more.
"Oh and, Sarah, I saw what happened last week. Don't feel embarrassed about it, things like that happen. I'm sure the omelet would have tasted okay if you weren't as flustered!" And with that, I walk out the door and head to my doom. Seemingly a little bit happier than before, but still dreading every step.
–––
I look around to ensure nobody is left in the hallway to see me enter the closet. From underneath the door I can see that the light is already on, meaning Zander is probably already in there waiting for me. If it's anyone else, that would be so awful and straight up an awkward situation.
Slowly I open the door and sure enough, there he is, leaning against a supply rack and reading a book of some sort. He looks up when he hears the door creak open, and a smirk takes over his features when he sees me.
I step into the room and looks towards him nervously. I don't know what to do other than to awkwardly wave his way and bite my lip, my eyes glancing around the room for any sign of my kitten printed garments. Nothing. Nothing at all, just him and his devilish smirk.
"Well, well, well. Look at what the cat dragged in! Or should I say Kitten?" I cringe at the awful pun and cast my gaze down to the floor.
"W-what is it t-that you w-w-want?" I stutter nervously and start rubbing my hands on my jeans, briefly looking up at him then gazing back down at the floor.
I hear his footsteps approaching me, then I see his sneakers right in front of mine. He hooks his finger under my chin and pushed my face up so I can meet his eyes. He smirks and let's go, stepping back one step and opening his mouth.
"Why, I only want your friendship, Cupcake." He smiles at me, seeming genuine but I don't trust it. I mean, the boy did steal my kitten printed underwear, who knows how devilish he really is.
"And you didn't stop to think that 'Hey, maybe I can get it by being truly nice and honest!'. Instead of, 'Hey, let's steal her underwear and show it to everyone in the school!'" I glare towards him and cross my arms over my chest, watching as he raises and eyebrow at my sudden sarcastic confidence. Yeah, it happens sometimes.
"Who said I was going to show them to the whole school?" He tilts his head to the side and his smirk returns, making me lose whatever confidence I had. I let my arms fall back to my sides and ask him the one question I know could mean life or death.
"Then what is it you want, really."
"I'm not going to show the whole school, only if you do what I ask." He leans back against the supply rack and crosses his arms, smirk still intact.
"What is it?" Seriously dude, just spit it out! I'm dying over here!!
"Just one kiss, everyday."
That's when my world changed.
Chapter 11 is here! Wow, what a cliff hanger! I've been dancing around trying to write this chapter but haven't fully had the inspiration to write it, until now.
I'm in a field.
In the back of the woods.
With only 5% battery left on my phone.
Inspiration comes from weird places, that's for sure.
Hope you all enjoyed! Please leave a vote and comment letting me know what you think! <3
Stay precious!
