Chapter 5- The Working Machine

This wasn't the first time I had woken up strapped to a table, and I had a feeling that it wouldn't be the last. I still felt dizzy from being hit on the head by that piece of debris.

"So, I've heard that you tried to escape" Dr.Rosenberg said in a nonchalant tone.

"I don't see what the problem is, I didn't succeed did I?" I replied sarcastically.

She walked over to where I was and freed me from the table.

I stood up, annoyed.
"How did I end up here anyways?"

"That portal leads back to the building" she replied.

"How did you know I was going to jump in that trashcan?" I asked.

"It's the brains natural response to hide behind or in the object nearest to it" she explained to me.

"Huh" I said running my tongue over my teeth. I leaned my arm against the metal countertop.

"You'll be taking the last test now" Dr.Rosenberg said.

"What? But I don't want to! I thought it was broken!" I yelled.

"Yes well, we fixed the machine, and it's the last test" she informed.

"Ugh, fine!" I replied. I did not want to proceed with the last test.

Dr.Rosenberg led me into the same room I was supposed to be tested in last time.

"Now, just sit in that chair" she instructed.

I plopped down as Dr.Rosenberg hooked up wires to my head. I looked around and I didn't see any other scientists observing me in the room. That was a relief. I did not want scientists practically watching my every move.

"This shouldn't hurt. Are you ready?" She asked.

"As I'll ever be" I replied reluctantly.

Dr.Rosenberg pressed the button. I didn't feel anything, but she seemed to be in awe. I looked down at myself and noticed that I was glowing. I was glowing yellow. Like the sun. The glowing slowly faded, and I got up from the chair.

"What happened?" I asked.

"The machine was sending surges of energy through your body, which was reacting to your cells" she replied.

"What happens now? I mean, I'm done with my testing, so am I released?" I questioned. I was hopeful, but I knew that probably wasn't going to be her answer.

"No" she said. My hope completely dropped to zero, and my shoulders grew heavy. "You are going to be trained" she added.

"Trained? For what?" I asked. I was not in the mood to do any more tests. Nevertheless had to train for...... I don't know what.

"You are going to be trained to defeat the darkness" she answered.

"What's 'the darkness'?" I questioned. I was determined not to ask to many questions in one day.

"Well, we don't exactly know the person behind it. All we know is that if it breaks the forcefield of our world, our whole civilization could fall into complete and utter chaos and potentially split apart"she replied.

"How can we stop it?" I asked urgently.

"You are the only person who can put this to an end." She answered sternly.

A/N: I have been trying to update frequently because I know that I am a VERY SLOW UPDATER!!!
I have a little secret that I want to tell you, but I think it will have to wait for a while. Their are a couple new books that I have been working on, but I haven't gotten past the summary. Th farthest I have gotten is typing a few words. I'm not very good at what using two books at a time because I end up focusing on one book more than another. I also don't want to be the person that ditches a book you haven't finished to write another book, and then never resume writing the book.

Also, I have trouble trying to think of plots for my books and I get inspired by other people's book. This book was inspired by a book called "Galactic Race" , written by Coora360 . I would urge you to follow her and read her books. Coora360 , if my book sounds to much like your book, please let me know(you will not hurt my feelings). Well, that's all for now!!!!!

PS: all of the scientific facts in this story(about the brain hiding behind or in the thing nearest to it, and the machine reacting to her cells) are not true!!!

PPS: Please let me know if I have any typos because I was in a rush to write this chapter.
