Chapter 4- The Sixth Floor Engineers

She pushed the button that triggered the machine. I prepared myself for the pain.
Nothing happened.
No pain.

The scientists stood still and stared at me, their jaws nearly touching the floor.

"Doctor" one of the scientists bravely spoke up."What happened?".

"A pair of wires must be disconnected from each other. I want you to find the wires and fix it." She instructed.

"Noel" she said, " you can just sit in that chair in the corner" she pointed to a metal seat on the other side of the room.

Dr.Rosenberg spoke with one of the scientists who was searching for the disconnected wires.

"Doctor, we can't find anything wrong with the machine".

"Then their must've been a mistake with the programming." She explained.
"Go find the engineers on the sixth floor and notify them about the malfunction".

"Noel?" Dr.Rosenberg said. "Just stay right here, we will get the test going in a little bit".

"Ok" I replied reluctantly. Thoughts flashed through my mind, I began to get hot. My skin was like fire when I touched it.

I leaped off the chair and sprinted out of the room. "Noel!" I heard Dr.Rosenberg call. I kept running. I was going to get out of this building. I was tired of having experiments and tests done on me daily.

My parents missed me and I missed them. That was the reason I was busting out of this prison.

I heard footsteps behind me. The hard thumping on the ground was unmistakable. They had sent the guards after me.

A flight of stairs was up ahead. I barely  had time to put the sole of my foot on the step. Skipping stairs as I went, I made my way down to the second floor. That was where I had sat when I was waiting for the tests to be done. The first floor was where I lived while I was being tested.

I knew the second and first floors like the back of my hand.

I ran past the reception desk, dodged the employees, and practically flew down the next set of stairs. I was now on the first floor. I saw the door ahead of me and picked up my pace.

I burst through the door of the building  and jumped into a nearby trash can. It smelled horrible, but it was the quickest way to get away from them.

"Which way did she go?" I heard one of the guards ask. "She went that way" I heard the other one respond. I peeked over the trash can to see the man pointing in the opposite direction. The guards sped away. I stayed in the trash can just in case they came back.

"Now what do I do?" I asked myself. I had just realized that the trash can was was empty.
Their was nothing in it at all.

All of a sudden, the bottom of the trash can opened to reveal  a deep hole in the ground. "Uh oh, I'm gonna die!" I thought. I tried holding on to the handles of the trash can, but that didn't help much. It felt as if their was a strong force pulling me down that refused to be overcome.

I was pulled down the hole. Before I could get the chance to see what was happening, something hit me on the head, and everything went black.

A/N: I am really sorry that I have not updated my story in a while. I've just been really busy. Plus, I am also having a little bit of a writers block because I decided to change the plot up a little bit, and I am having some trouble trying to get it back on track. So, if you guys have any suggestions, I would love to hear them in the comments!  Also, the picture I put up for this chapter has nothing to do with the book, I just thought that it was cute and you guys would enjoy it. Lastly, I was just wondering if someone  could tell me why every time I read a book, it skips about very chapter and brings me to the end. When that happens, I end up getting very confused because I skipped most of the chapters. Thank you so much for reading my book! Please, comment, vote, and add my book to your library! I hope you all enjoyed this chapter!
