Chapter 26 : Razor's Edge
Chapter 26
Eclipse: *Bangs on the door* Flame! C'mon!
Epsie: What's up?
Jolt: They're still sour over dying yesterday.
Epsie: Ahh...
Jolt: I read the script, too. He's trying to tell them that not all hope is lost for them.
Eclipse: Fine then! Stay in there!
Epsie: Hmmm... Interesting.
Eclipse: Oh, Epsie, there you are. I'm done being an Umbreon, I wanna be a Jolteon now.
Epsie: But you look so much cuter as an Umbreon~
Eclipse: I don't care! I still wanna- wait, did you say cute?
Epsie: Well, whatshisface died when you deleted our story, along with pretty much everyone else with few exceptions. I'm free.
Eclipse: *Flustered* Well, I, uh... Jolteon.
Epsie: *Smacks him with a thunderstone, causing him to magically turn into a Jolteon* There. I dub you Sir Paralysis.
Paralysis: Yes! Woo! Haha! Nice!
Epsie: *looking him over* You know, I think I was wrong... Your spikes look very handsome~
Paralysis: Look, Epsie, I know that you're trying to exploit the fact that I love Espeons, and they're my favorite ship with Jolteon. And honestly, it's working.
Breeze: Ay! Back off my man, biatch!
Epsie: Screw you! I'll make him mine!
Paralysis: Oh dear...
Jolt: Congrats. You're now afflicted with the Jolteon curse.
Chapter 26- Razor's Edge
Eclipse ran as fast as he could down the road, Breeze at his side. He could only imagine what she was going through, and the tears in her eyes weren't helping. However, much it hurt, she couldn't help her friends directly, nor mourn with them over Flame and Sky. He turned a corner, making sure no one was near, then dashed into the intended building, with Breeze close at heel. They flew up the stairs of the long abandoned office building, still just as the humans had left it in their haste. Luckily for them, no one else had occupied the building, and before long they arrived at their destination floor and dashed to the window. There, panting and out of breath, Eclipse shattered the window of the corner office, and they both gazed down at the square. Below them, intense fighting raged on, and the sickening sights and sounds of death told them that this was the decisive battle between which of the exhausted sides would win and take the city.
*30 minutes later*
Snow and the rest of their pack stared down their enemies, the Mightyena giving them the same, deadly leers in return. All about them in the square, the gruesome fighting raged, but they were protected by the bulk of Marlin's dwindling remaining troops. Their orders had been to protect the two combatants, but that agreement was going to fall to pieces soon, and everyone knew it. Behind her, Jolt stood up from his break, covered in slashes, cuts and bruises. On the other side, Marlin did the same, likewise beaten and bloodied. He glanced at Snow, who had taken the lead, of their circular position opposing the Mightyena, and nodded. The Glaceon took a deep breath, then emptied her mind of all other distracting thoughts, and steeled her coat into its deadly frozen spikes, similar to Jolt's electric daggers. This was it: do or die. "Death to the enemy!" she screamed at the top of her lungs, and then time stopped. In slow motion, she saw Jolt leap over her to face Marlin, just as planned. In front of him, she saw the lead Mightyena who she would be facing. Either she would kill him, or he would kill her. It was simple. Her breathing and heart rate increased as they ran at each other, two foes soon to be locked in combat for their leader's beliefs.
Midnight finished rubbing the last little bits of healing berry juice on Flame, then gave Volt the okay to go ahead. The pregnant Jolteon nodded, and put her yellow paws on Sky's chest, just over her heart. "Let's hope this works..." she muttered, and readied her body to relive the electricity that had been stored in her body since that night with Jolt.
Ruby and Sparky fought alongside each other, Sparky's attacking and Ruby's defending making the pair a deadly combination. However, fighting off Marlin's most elite guards was far from easy. Though that were able to strike down the first one that came at them, it was soon revealed that the Eevees were outnumbered. The only thing they could do was continue to keep killing and killing, trying not to be despaired by the fact that a new Mightyena kept replacing the one they had just killed. It wasn't long before they both accumulated cuts and bruises in large amounts, but they both still had a ways to go. With a dual swift attack, they vanquished the last of their foes to that side, and dashed to go help Frost with her struggling battle.
Jolt's claws met Marlin's again and again, the steely knives sending sparks against the shadowy ones. He struck, then spun around and delivered a powerful blow, knocking Marlin off balance, who recovered before Jolt had much of a chance to attack. This went on for several minutes before the combatants withdrew, putting some space between them so they could use their ranged attacks. Marlin fired first, forming a deadly gleaming shadow ball in half a second. Jolt's cracking electro ball pieced through it just as it began to cover the gap between Marlin and Jolt, and the ensuing explosion forced Marlin to jump backwards. He growled in frustration, angry that he wouldn't be able to fire anything save it were in quick succession, which even then would be risky against the high-speed balls. Jolt was not going to give Marlin any time to plan, however, and immediately shot 2 electro balls at him, one on either side. Marlin was forced to jump, where he took a stinging hit from a third electric attack. Jolt leapt forward but he was already up, and threw Jolt back with a close ranged dark pulse. Normally, Jolt would have easily landed on his feet, but in his exhausted condition he landed painfully on his side.
Marlin grinned. This was just the moment he had been waiting for. Extending his shadowy claws once again, he dashed forward, a malignant smile on his face. Jolt attempted to roll to his feet but stopped when his right forepaw began to throb with excruciating pain. "Dammit..." Jolt swore under his breath as he looked up at Marlin, trying to hide his rising panic. Marlin stopped his advance right in front of the Jolteon, and took the time to look him over thoroughly. "So it seems that in the end, the great hero Jolteon can't stop me," he began to gloat, laughing to himself. The fighting in the circle began to slow, and all around them they could hear the Mightyenas advancing. "Don't do this Marlin..." Jolt began, and Marlin nodded his head to allow him to continue. "Look, I'm sure it doesn't need to be this way, all this... Violence. It's pointless. Can't we co-exist? You don't need to keep forcing innocents into your service if you'd just end this now."
Marlin looked at the Jolteon seriously for a moment, then his muzzle broke into a wide grin. In front of everyone, he burst out laughing. "Why, little Jolteon, you think my aim is to create a Pokémon utopia in this city?" Jolt gave him a puzzled look, so he continued. "You see, once this city is ours, it will become a base; my base. Our army will grow into substantial numbers. From there, we'll capture another city, and another, and so on. Our Pokémon force will be unstoppable!" Jolt still didn't get it, which seemed to annoy the Mightyena. "Are you so simple that you cannot grasp our plans? Our numbers will grow exponentially until there will be no stopping the army; The Pokémon Army. We are sick and tired of these pathetic humans thinking they can do as they please, ruining our earth and enslaving us to fight our brethren." Marlin then stepped up upon a piece of rubble, and at once, the fighting halted. All eyes were upon him.
"Will we continue to allow the humans to destroy our planet and our homes for their own selfish desires?!" He shouted, proclaiming his voice to the whole of both tatters armies. Immediately, a strong "No!" erupted from the crowd of Pokémon Army soldiers, while those fighting for the humans began to listen more attentively. "Will we continue to be enslaved? Out gifts bent to the will of idiot humans who force us to harm each other so they can see who is stronger?!" Marlin continued, and an even heartier "No!" arose from the Pokémon soldiers, and even from some of the human's Pokémon. "And will we continue to stand for the humans capturing and enslaving us, stealing us from our mates and young?!" Marlin roared, and Jolt even thought he glimpsed a tear in his eye. "No! Never again! Never!" Almost every Pokémon roared back at him, and some even turned and fired on their human masters. "I for one am finished living in fear of humans! I think that it's time for us, the Pokémon, to take back OUR world! NOW WHOS WITH ME?!" He screamed, and the cheers in response were deafening. Any Pokémon who had wished to remain with their human companions had already fled with them. Any other poor human left was being beaten by his former companions, and many were dead already.
Marlin turned his attention back to Jolt, a murderous look on his face. "So you see, Jolt. We will rise." The Jolteon, ignoring his paw, pulled himself to his feet. "You're crazy Marlin! Wiping out all the humans? That's genocide!" He shot, which infuriated the Mightyena. "Why can't you understand?! Why won't you fight with us?!" Jolt looked down for a moment, picking his words. "I know what it feels like to be hurt by humans... I was been captured twice before I was abandoned in this city." He began, and Marlin seemed genuinely interested. "I used to hate them; all of them. Every last human was considered my enemy. But you know what? I was wrong." Marlin seemed displeased, but allowed him to continue. "There are good humans, too!" Jolt shouted, then sprang up on to the rubble where Marlin had stood.
"Brothers and Sisters, listen to me!" he cried desperately, and just as with Marlin, all became quiet. "It is true that some humans are bad. They enslave us, sell us off, and some even beat us when we fail to preform adequately. I myself am an example of this; when my last trainer's girlfriend didn't want me around, I was simply dumped here, in this very city, with nothing but a thin blanket to keep me warm!" An angry shout arose from the Pokémon, some crying out for vengeance on the trainer, others in sorrow, remembering their own similar situations. "But my fellow Pokémon! Here me now! Not all humans are bad! Despite the bad ones, many more trainers love us, and attend to our every whim!" When I was hungry a HUMAN gave me food! When Snow and I were tired a HUMAN gave us a place to rest! When we are injured, it's the HUMANS who take care of us! Surely they can't be all bad!" And then there was silence. For a minute, no one spoke, not even Marlin, who was shimmering with anger and hurt, remembering his former trainer. "Once, when I broke my leg and he had left my ball back at our home, my trainer carried me three and a half miles to the nearest Pokémon center..." A Lucario said, with the beginnings of tears in her eyes. "Yeah! Once, when we were stranded, my trainer went hungry in the forest for two days, giving me all the food we found!" A Bulbasaur chimed in, and several of the others began to nod their heads in agreement. "Once, my trainer risked rising flood waters to save me!" someone called. "My trainer fought off a flock of Pidgey when I was hurt!" another added. Soon, the square was filled with Pokémon sharing the stories of the good sides of humans, and the humans who hadn't been killed were immediately healed and embraced by remorseful Pokémon.
"That's ENOUGH!" Marlin screamed from behind, and tackled Jolt to the ground. From high above, a dual moonblast shadow ball descended from on high, and hit Marlin square in the back, allowing Jolt to scramble away, his paw in excruciating pain. He smiled, glad he had thought to post his two snipers up above. "Hey, leave him alone!" Some of Marlin's guards and pack mates called to him, taking up sides with the relieved Eevees. He looked around at his friends, all of whom were now rushing to the Jolteon's defense. In a few short minutes, Jolt had just taken away everything he had worked for.
"I'll... I'll kill you!" Marlin screamed, anger turning to fury, and without warning opened his maw. An intense beam of light formed in an instant, and by the time Jolt's brain registered the hyper beam, it was already formed. His eyes went wide and he put his paws out in front of his head, knowing he was about to be obliterated. "NO!" Snow screamed, and just as the beam of death energy began to shoot forward, she flung herself in front of it.
In that instant, Marlin used up all the energy his tired body had left, and died right there. In slow motion, Snow's smoking body fell to the ground, just as Jolt sprang forward. "No! Snow!" he shouted as he picked up her form, and held her head in his lap. "No! Snow... It can't b-be..." he said, feeling tears begin to well up in his eyes. He gently licked her forehead, and began to shake her. "C'mon Snow, get up..." he begged. "Please Snow... get up!" he said, desperation becoming evident in his voice. The others slowly began to encircle the two, scared that their friend wasn't moving. "Snow! Why?!" Jolt cried aloud to the sky, then buried his face into hers and began to weep. The others, even the Mightyena and the Pokémon soldiers, all stood and solemnly watched the Jolteon. "Snow... m-my first friend... why...?!" he sobbed, feeling his heart crack inside his chest. "You were always there for me... S-snow... I can't believe I was so blind... a-and now, y-you're gone..." Jolt's voice died inside his throat, being replaced by his bitter sobs. "I'm sorry..." was all he managed to choke out. "I'm so, so sorry..."
With that, Jolt began to remember all the times he had ignored her, chasing after other females, leaving her alone to watch. "I've messed up... o-over and over again... a-and I'm sorry Snow..." he said, starting to tremble uncontrollably. Then, he felt his heart pulse inside his chest. "I love you, Snow..." he whispered, mad at his foolishness. "It took me this long to realize it... I love you." Everyone was totally silent, especially Sparky, who felt her own heart crack as she heard Jolt say that. She had been with him. She had mothered his child. She loved him with all her heart. And he would always love Snow more now. And then, the Glaceon's paw clenched around Jolt's.
"I-it took you long enough t-to say that..." she whispered, and Jolt felt his hopes begin to soar. "B-but maybe next time... you c-can say it before I a-almost die?" Jolt's vision cleared, and he saw Snow's eyes slowly open, and gaze back up at him.
"I love you, Snow."
"I love you too, Jolt."
