Ch. 4. The Captain's Cabin

Stormy sat at the table unable to move. Her head was spinning by what Captain James had said. At first she was shocked, but now a rage was setting in. "His! Never! I'll never belong to anyone. I'm not some property you can own. How dare he!" She flung the glass he had left on the table at the locked door. It smashed into tiny pieces on the hard wood. A row of books and candle holders caught her eye. She had a lot of rage to deal with and he wasn't there to listen to what she had to say.

William was carrying a tray of fruit and baked fish to the cabin, when Captain James blocked his path. "Sir I brought a meal for the lady."

"You may want to wait a little while before going in there William. She's not in a good mood right now. I wouldn't want you to get hurt." Captain James looked at the door for a moment and smiled he heard what sounded like a books crash into the door with a thud.

William paled, "I'll leave it by the door then." Another thud came from the room.

John chuckled behind them as they all watched the door. "Such a temper. I take it she didn't approve of your offer. As it is a high stung young lady like her should know her place, but maybe she was spoiled as a child." Another crash and a scream sounded through the door. The muffled words directed to Captain James would have stung if he had not been prepared for this outcome.

"She will come around sooner or later." James said as he smiled at the door. She has more fire then I first thought. A temper and charm it's impressive. He listened a little more before all three men moved over to the table where the map lay.

Another loud crash echoed off the door. Followed by several thumps and what sounded like a chair hitting the door. Buddy trotted over to the door and laid down, his eyes watching every movement Captain James made.

William turned to look at the door a worried expression on his face. "You think she will clam down soon. That sounds like a lot of glass breaking and all that's left of the brandy is in there."

John and Captain James looked at each other and shook their heads. Both turned to study the map and watch the compass. Buddy raised his head to look at the door. The sudden way everything went still caught them off guard.

Buddy wined, he got up to scratch at the door. He looked back at Captain James with his large eyes, and waited.

Captain James tapped William on the shoulder. "Come on you bring the food I think the storm is over. The dog has been through this before I can tell."

William picked up the tray from the shelf by the door and waited for Captain James to unlock it. A hard push and the door slid open, the pile of books and a broken chair and glass gave a little resistance. She was sitting on the foot of the small bed her head resting on her knees. Her arms wrapped around her legs.

Buddy trotted over to her and curled around her like a thick blanket. William set the food on the small side table and quickly left the room. Captain James looked around at the mess thankful all of the brandy was still sitting on the shelf untouched.

He took a step further into the room. Buddy curled his lip and growled low in his throat.

"You sure do know how to make a mess. You know you have a pretty big temper. Poor William was ready to walk the plank." Captain James tapped the hilt of his sword as he watched her. She was crying he knew and it took all of his strength to keep from holding her. Not that she would let him anyway.

Stormy took a deep breath and calmed her breathing enough to reply. "You don't own me. I'm not a toy or a pet you can just play with. I really don't know how I got here or why. I really can't tell you were I'm from or anything. You don't have to treat me like a caged bird. You're giving me no choice but to accept what you say." She sniffled and raised her head to look at him. Her gray eyes flashed like storm clouds. She hurled a book at him and missed.

Captain James shut the door and walked over to the table. "Come eat." He lifted the lid off of the plate of baked fish. "I'll be forced to feed you if you don't eat willingly." His face was stern now and she knew he would do just that.

She got up and walked over to the table. The only chair left in the room was behind Captain James she was stuck standing there looking at the food. Her stomach growled and she reached out to pick up a fork.

His hand grabbed her wrist and turned her to look at him. "I'll not lie to you, and I'll never treat you badly. Your mad now but soon you will forget all of that." He pulled her closer and wrapped his arm around her waist, still holding her wrist with his other hand.

She held her breath as he leaned in closer. Their breath mingled and heat radiated between them. Her cheeks turned pink and her eyes widened.

He smiled at her and just held her. He fought with himself, keeping his hands and mouth from moving was harder then he thought.

"Let me go. Please." Stormy wriggled and tried to pull away. "Please just let me go." Her words were just whispers but he heard them loud and clear.

"Never." He leaned into her ear and whispered, "I may not ever be able to just let you go." He dropped her wrist and held the back of her neck, embracing her like this had his blood boiling. "Your so much more then just another woman to me."

Stormy pushed at his chest and tried to break away from him. Her heart pounded and her arms felt weak. Her legs started to shake from something other than fear or cold. She wanted him to hold her, but her pride would not let her accept that.

He just wanted a toy to play with, a challenge. Well, she would be a challange, for eighteen years she proved that she was a challenge. Some handsome pirate prince, that made her blood heat up wouldn't change that.

Her eyes threw daggers at him. The storm clouds in her eyes grew. He would have fun with this beautiful girl. Buddy no longer growled, but watched like a hawk. Stormy, the beautiful temptress of the sea, fit well on on his ship. She fit even better in his arms.
