Ch. 3. Aboard the Sea Dreamer
William led stormy to the table the map was on. The map looked like it was drawn on a brown paper bag, just like the ones she had made in elementary school. The map looked well drawn, and the paper was in way better shape. John looked up at her and gave a weak smile. She flashed a smile, but turned away from him to look at the map once more. It was incomplete, but as it is she didn't think too much had been mapped out yet. She didn't even know what kind of ship she was on other than what the black flag outside told her.
"You must be tired my lady would you care to rest inside the Captain's room? I'm sure he will want to speak to you in private. I would suggest you leave the wolf at the door, but it is your choice where he goes." John gave a frown at Buddy who was letting William scratch his head.
"I am a little tired. I think I'll accept your offer and wait inside. Buddy will possibly want to stay out here anyway." She patted Buddy's head and followed John to the tiny cabin that sat just to the side of the top deck.
John ushered her into the room and pulled a chair out for her to sit in. A thump from the small closet let Stormy know that the Captain was closer then she first thought. John must have planned this from the beginning. He is evil, she decided.
Not long after John left the room Captain James walked out of the closet, and into the room. He had on fresh dry clothes and his hair was straighter and tied neatly. His eyes where like a dark sea of blue.
"Hello Miss Glimmer." He sat in a chair on the opposite side of her. "I asked you to join me because I have a few questions I need to ask you. I hope you will answer them."
She blushed, "I'll answer what I can, and please call me Stormy. Miss Glimmer is odd for me to hear."
"Well Stormy, you may call me James. I'd like to know where you came from, and how you got on my ship? If I may also ask where you got such a beautiful wolf, and how you trained him to be so loyal?"
"Well I'm not sure how to answer where I came from or how I got on your ship. That is because I really don't know." She placed her hand in her lap to keep from playing with anything in plain sight. "As for Buddy, he's not a wolf. He is a huskey breed." She twisted her skirt a little in her hand.
"I see. So you have lost your memory and just woke up here in my cargo hold, twenty-eight days out to sea."
"Well I didn't really wake up. I kinda just walked down the stairs and poof I'm in your cargo hold in the middle of the ocean."
He shook his head. This girl is not gonna answer anything like this. He has to find a way to get her to talk.
"That's fair enough. It doesn't make any since to me. A very interesting story I'll have to look into, but for now I can't have you staying in my cargo hold. You will take this room. Stay here as my guest and I'll have your meals sent to you." He poured some brandy into a glass. "You can do as you please, only you can not leave this room unless I say." He drank the brandy in one swallow.
Stormy watched him. She understood where he was coming from. A ship is a dangerous place for a woman, or so she had read. Her fingers unconsciously traced the gold chain around her neck.
She jumped when his fingers touched hers and traced the same gold chain. Her eyes widened at his touch. The heat that poured into her made her heart thump hard.
"Stormy I've made a decision about you. Your under my protection and are now my responsibility. That makes you my property on this ship. See this ship isn't a kings ship or a merchant ship not even a navy ship. This ship is my ship, a pirate ship." He watched her face as the color drained from her cheeks. "Even if we make port you will stay here until I say different. There is a chest in the closet. It should have some clothes you can change into. Once you decide to tell me how you got on my ship, and managed to survive as well as you have I may think about letting you walk on deck a little."
He took another shot of brandy and left the room locking the door behind him. He figured a storm was about to blow in and it wouldn't be the high seas that would be churning this time. He had not given her a chance to reply or anything so he expected the walls to rattle. Buddy, the dog watched the door as he paced from William to John and back to William. Everything looked bright.
The storm at sea was over, but now the real storm was about to blow. One that could change his life forever. It was in the shape of a brown haired, grey eyed girl.
He smiled at the sound of glass smashing into the door.
