Chapter 4: Traveling East By Flying
Crista (In the Morning)
"Crista, it's time to get up." I groan as my eyes force themselves open to see Dairokkan at the foot of my bed.
"Alright, Dairo-San, you win this time," I mumbled, flinging off the covers and swinging my feet to the floor. When I stand, I bend back until cracks were heard from my spine. That's when someone knocks on the door.
"Crista? You up?" Maze calls out. "Yue wants to talk with you."
"Send her in," I answer before the door opens to reveal my fellow Trinity member. She's wearing a black shirt with blue jeans and combat boots along with her weapons at her hip. However, her eyes look puffy as if she's been crying.
"I take it that you told your brother the truth about Crista?" Dairokkan asks.
"He didn't take the news too well," Yue replies, using her hands to dry away any leftover tears. "But he understands that he can't pitch in and help us find the last member of the Trinity."
"However, he did leave a message for the two of you," Tora appears. "Law says that if you harm Yue in any way, or double cross her for the money, he will come after your head, even if it means declaring war against the world if you have any ties to the World Government."
"Consider myself warned, despite the fact that Trafalgar didn't need to threaten me," I go behind my changing panel to get dressed in proper clothes. "Because I can rest assure that the only way I can betray the two of you is by possession from Kurai."
"I'm just the messenger cat," the Tiger Devil huffs. When I finally get dressed, I use my telekinesis skills to change my bed into a desk before summoning a map from it. When I unroll the map, it reveals the charting of the East Blue Sea.
"We're going to start our search in the East Blue and work our way back to the Grand Line," I start off while allowing Yue to look at the map.
"Let me guess, it's because of Hunter the Elemental being born there?" Tora asks.
"When did you remember the titles of the Original Trinity?" Dairokkan says.
"I know this is off topic, but what do you mean by titles?" Yue asks.
"The Trinity was given titles to represent the Big Three that chose them," I answer with a sigh. "Hunter was known as the Elemental since he was trained by Logia."
"Oh. That makes sense. But please continue with explanation you left off."
"As I was saying," I resume to the original topic. "You and I are going to the East Blue alone. It's too big of a risk to get my crew over Reverse Mountain. It'll attract too much attention from the Navy."
"And yet it's too dangerous to sail the Red Line in just a sailboat," Tora points out.
"Which is why I contacted a Devil that can help us get Crista and Yue to the East Blue without any harm," Dairokkan crosses his arms. "Her name is Ashi, and she's the Devil of Nikyu Nikyu No Mi."
"She's Kuma's Devil?" Yue asks. "Well, ain't that a coincidence."
"You met Kuma?" I ask.
"Yeah, he's the one who got the bright idea of sending me flying on my sixteenth birthday," Yue narrows her eyes. "Then again, I also met Kizaru too, and he's an annoying pain in the--"
"Are you getting the idea of having Ashi sending us to the East Blue?" Tora speaks up. "Couldn't you have Dairo use his brain skills to teleport?"
"I could do that, but that would mean to risk Crista's mentality and my control of power," my Devil answers. "Crista's not ready to harness that kind of power yet. Otherwise she could go insane. Have you heard on what happened to Ningen and his Master?"
"Who's Ningen?" Yue asks.
"He's the Devil of the Hito Hito No Mi," Tora says in answer. "His Fruit was eaten by a reindeer. But no, I haven't heard of what happened."
"It was chaotic," Raion appears to join us. "That reindeer ending up being smart enough to make medicine from a couple of doctors on an island called Drum Island. But he ended up inventing a drug called Rumble Balls. At first, that reindeer could turn into a human hybrid when he first tested it. Then he started to have the power of enhancing some parts of his body. The reindeer then starting to call those transformations Points. It's similar to Yue's Gaikan forms."
"But when the animal took too much of the Rumble Ball, he ended up losing control of his mentality," Dairo concluded. "It took at least four wild Devils to calm down both the reindeer and Ningen. Poor kid was shook up by how powerful he let his Master become."
"Wild Devils? I thought all Devils are trapped in Fruits until they're bonded," Yue says with confusion.
"Not all the time," Tora says. "When a Master of a Devil dies, that Devil has a year to roam free before they're return into a Fruit state. That's something the Original Trinity did when they tried to help free the Devils from Kurai's curse."
"Anyway, back to the previous topic," I turn back to the map. "Ashi is going to let us go to Shimotsuki Village. It has to be the first place to look since Hunter was born there. We can find clues to see who his successor is. Then once we have the knowledge we need, we'll work our way back to the Grand Line again. Is there anything that you have questions on?"
"How soon are we going to leave?" Tora asks.
"Whenever you're ready to fly."
Yue (Four Hours later)
"At least I'm not beat up this time," I adjust my swords so they can be more secure.
"True point, but didn't that traumatized you though?" Tora asks.
"It was more on Law than on me," I get a green jacket on. "To him, it was like I was about to die than being sent off. Then again, if it weren't for you snooping around and finding Ashi, it would've been a whole lot uglier."
"I was just doing my part for the Big Three," Tora shrugs. "I had to do something than just wait on you to get done with your duel. Besides, you would've lost against Hawkeye anyway."
"Three hours of dueling against a Shichibukai that's also the world's strongest swordsman? If I would've lost, it would've taken less than three minutes for Hawkeye to cut me down."
"Then again, you're not an average swordswoman," Raion appears. "You're really special when it comes to being a D."
"Yeah, still wishing I knew which parent I got the 'D' from. It stinks like a rotting Sea King when I'm trying to remember," I scratch the back of my head. "You know that feeling that your eyesight gets blurry before passing out? That's always the thing when I try to remember my dad."
"I can see where you get your looks from when it comes to your mother, though," Raion says. "Too bad she was already married at that time."
"Duh, she-- Wait a minute, how did you know my mother?!" I stretch out the Lion Devil's face.
"Before Felix, I had one hell of a lunatic for a Master," Raion says through pinch cheeks before I let go. "He was trying to mug your mom. . . Until he realized too late that she was with a Navy officer. So he went down with. . . . Twenty bullet holes, sixteen gashes, and five stabs to the lungs. But it was good riddance to that crazy bastard."
"Yue, you in here?" I hear Maze knocking on my door. "Ashi just got here, so you might want to wrap it up on the packing."
"Thanks for the tip, Dog Breath," Raion calls out, in which we all hear an animal like growl that sends shivers down my spine.
"You know he hates it when you insult her like that," Dairo say with a pale face.
"Who would that be?" I ask.
"Retorībā, Devil of the Inu Inu No Mi: Model Gold Retriever," Tora says. "He was one of the humans that Kurai possessed. He broke free without the Trinity's help, but with a certain price."
"What was the price?"
"If his temper gets the best of him, he goes into a dark like state, causing his Master to lose control over both him and their body," Raion answers. "But it depends on the Master how Retorībā can break free."
"But at least Maze loves being a dog," Dairo says while looking out my room window. "She's one of the those bonding people that can easily get along with Devils. Maze only lost control over Retorībā once, only to calm him down in less than three minutes."
"It's an interesting world, after all," I reply before taking hold of my bag and slinging it over my shoulder. "I'm all set. You ready for flying, Tora?"
"Just make sure you find the closest place to eat when you land. And make sure you wake me up too," Tora says before disappearing in my mind.
"Take care of yourself kid, and good luck," Raion says as he follows me out the door. "You're gonna need it." I walk out onto the deck to see Crista with a girl that had punk clothes on with brown hair.
"If that's Ashi, she's my kind of girl," I say with a smile, catching her and Crista's attention.
"Nice to see you in person, Yue," Ashi smiles back with shining brown eyes. "Thanks for the compliment. And sorry for ruining your birthday."
"Just be thankful that Law isn't here," I brush off. "He would've diced you to bits."
"Good point," Ashi shrugs. "Anyway, are you ready to go?" That's when I look back out to the Grand Line. There then was a moment of silence, as if time suddenly stood still. I close my eyes, remembering the good and the bad times of my life. From the time Law gave me a spot on his crew to the time I met the Whitebeard Pirates. And from the time I met Thatch to the time Crista got me out of Doflamingo's grip. Soon I feel a slight sea breeze blow through, making my hair float a bit.
"Go the route that you want to go," the voice of a familiar Devil whispers from a memory. "You are also you're own person."
"I will go my own route, Jishin," I whisper with a smile. "If I need to back track to go where I need to go, then that's what I'll do." When I open my eyes, everyone was studying me as if I was about to fall asleep on them.
We're in this together, Yue, Tora mentally says. Never forget that you're not alone.
You got that right, I smiled. "Junbi dekimashita. The sooner we find the Logia member, the better off we'll be on taking on Kurai."
"Alright, let's do this, Ashi!" Crista says as Dairo disappears.
"Then fasten your seatbelts ladies, cuz it's gonna be a bumpy ride!"
???? (Third Person Perspective)
"And they're off," a Devil whispers as he witnesses the Paw Devil sending Yue and Crista off to their destined location. His white hair flutters from the winds he was riding, yet the two blue feathers he wore stayed firm behind his ear.
"Does your Master even know you're here?" the dark skinned Devil turns to see his red headed cousin riding on a ball of fire.
"I was about to ask you the same thing, Kasai," the Devil turns his head to see Raion and Ashi talk for a while before the Paw Devil disappears to return to her own Master.
"You should know Ace and that narcolepsy of his by now," Kasai says before turning his attention to Maze. "That girl's just right for Retorībā. It's gonna be sad when she moves on. Who knows when a Devil would find one of those perfect Master. Then again, we can't be picky about it."
"Indeed. I take it that you wanted to see Mikami D. Yue off?"
"Yeah, but I guess I just missed her. Ace really wanted me to tell her where his little brother's at. How do you think Rabā's gonna react on seeing Dairokkan and Tora again?"
"I don't know. But I have a feeling that those two are going to run into trouble. For there are some Devils that are now on Cloud 9 when Kurai returned."
"He's already free? No wonder Jishin passed out a few nights ago."
"All Devils created by the Dark One felt his presence arise when Teach ate the Yami Yami No Mi. But I'm surprised that Dairokkan didn't tell Crista yet."
"He probably didn't want to alarm her. After all, she'd probably be in the rush zone to find the third Trinity."
"And that third member happens to be my Master," the white haired warrior says calmly, in which Kasai gives out a shocked reaction.
"Him? The son of a Shichibukai? Well isn't that a shocker," the Fire Devil says. "Well, uh, congrats on there, Uindo."
"I need luck more than anything right now," the Wind Devil says while looking at the blue skies. "Because if my Master reveals himself too soon, the Navy will beat the girls to him, as he's working under an assassin boss. And Kurai will have the full advantage. So let's have the best hope that Yue and Crista train along the way while looking for him."
"One more question," Kasai says. "You keep saying that your Master is a Shichibukai kid. Who and which is the lucky warlord?"
"As I've said to previous Devils, I swore the oath not to reveal my Master's identity until the right time comes," Uindo says. "And I hope it would be the day the Trinity is united as one."
"Good point, cousin," Kasai sighs. "Then I severely hope that you're right on that. Because despite the secrecy, Jishin foresaw someone going down hard. And I hope it's not Yue. Because she's too good of a kid to lose her future."
"That's something I can agree on," Uindo says with a sad smile. With that, the Logia Devils take their leave, quietly leaving the crew of the Harmony Pirates in peace. However, little did they know that another Devil was watching them, her dark hair flowing freely as she stood on thin strands of string.
"But I didn't swear to keeping your Master's secret," Sujimichi smiles widely. "Just wait until Doflamingo hear about this, 'Child of the Warlord'. It'll also give Master Kurai quite the interest. I can't wait to see what kind of road blocks he'll toss at Yue and Shimizu."
