Chapter 1: Calm Yet Struggling
Yue
"That's quite a tale on how you met Yue, Thatch-ya," Law smiles at the former Fourth Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. "But I'm glad my little sister was in good hands while coming back." It's been only a couple of weeks since I arrived at Water 7 and found my original crew that I joined. Even though I was able to catch Law up what was going on some parts of my life, I still kept thinking about Tora. So far I can still transform, but I realized that my Devil has to be awake in order for me to go to my fury mode. Then again, I haven't told Law about Shimizu and her Devil Dairokkan. Otherwise he would probably freak out.
How are you holding up? a familiar voice pops into my head, but not the one I was hoping for.
"Daijōbudesu ka?" Thatch asks, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You look a little distracted."
"I'm fine. . . Excuse me guys, I need to get some fresh air," I make an excuse instead, getting up from the table and walking to the balcony of the hotel suite that Law reserved. After closing the door taking a breath of the evening air, I sigh while saying, "I wish things were a lot different, Unten, that's how I'm holding up."
"Hey, don't be so blue," the Devil of the Ope Ope No Mi appears, leaning against the cement railing of the balcony. "Tora has a tendency of coming around at awkward moments anyway."
"It's not just that," I look at the town before me. "It's about Dairokkan. When I saw him before he left with Shimizu, I could've swore I saw him before. But whenever I think about it, the memory's completely blurred out."
"I thought you told Kenji and Marco that you met the guy," Unten tilts his head. But before I could reply, my adopted brother comes out with a bottle of booze in hand. His Operation Devil disappears before Law closes the door behind him.
"Did Thatch go to bed?" I ask before getting a hummed nod from my brother as an answer.
"Beautiful night, isn't it?"He asks before taking a drink. "You can see half of the city from up here. Then just beyond that's the sea."
"Yeah, but nothing can beat the beauty of the sea when it's under the cover of night," I smiled, looking beyond Water 7 to the waters of the Grand Line.
"Good point," Law wraps an arm around my shoulders. "So, what do you want to do after we find the new mechanic?"
"I don't know, to be honest," I sigh as I take the bottle to get a drink. "I was kind of hoping to relax for a while until I'm ready to go back to sailing."
"Huh, I was thinking you would go after the other two Trinity members," Law says, making me spit out my mouthful of sake with wide eyes.
"How did you know?!" I asked, completely shocked.
"You really think I wouldn't know about Unten being my Devil?" Law says in return.
"Sorry Yue, it slipped," Unten pops back into sight, bowing his head for his white hair to cover his face. "Also he knew I was gone when he was in that coma."
"Ugh!" I get out of my brother's hold before he could turn it to a headlock. "WHY DOES MY LIFE HAVE TO BE SO DAMN HARD WITH THIS TRINITY NONSENSE!"
"Oi, oi, calm down!" Unten rushes by my side. "It'll be better soon."
"How!?" I crouch against the wall of the suite. "I screwed up on getting the Yami Yami No Mi, Thatch nearly got killed, I was just about kidnapped by Shimizu and Dairokkan, and now Tora's in a coma. How am I suppose to calm down when I can't shift to my fury mode when my Devil's out like a light?" I then start to shake, tears falling freely. "I wanted to tell you so much Law, but I was told not to tell too much about it."
"Yue," Law looks down at me with guilt before sitting down next to me. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to pressure you like this, but I need to know what's going on with this Sea Devil Trinity business. Even Kizaru brought it up when Kuma sent you flying away. I don't want to lose you like that again."
"I know," I groan before leaning on Law's shoulder. "It's just that. . . I don't want anyone that I care about getting hurt because of me. Plus I feel really empty without Tora being around. Physically I can take out an army of ten hundred. But mentally, I can get my ass handed to me by a rookie Navy cadet."
"I know how you feel kiddo," Unten speaks up, scooting closer to Law and I. "Honestly, I actually volunteered to fight against Kurai. But when I met the bastard face to face, I've never been so scared in my life. I was scared enough that I temporarily forgot that I can take organs out of someone without making a mess."
"Are you a natural Devil, or were you a human that turned into a Devil?" I ask the Operation Devil.
"I am one hundred percent natural," Unten proudly replies. "Paramecia created me due to the fact that I remember being born during the Devil Wars to help the injured. Why'd you ask?"
"Just curious," I slump onto Law's shoulder. "Jishin told me about himself and other humans being turned into Devils by Kurai to build up his army."
"That's true that he did that," Unten says as he sits up. "I knew a girl that he ended up turning into a Devil. . . . I believe her name was Sujimichi, or Suji for short. She and I were great friends until Kurai captured her and turned her into a String Devil. Poor girl was under his spell until she was sealed in a Devil Fruit called the Ito Ito No Mi. No one knows if she's still under it or not."
"Did you just say--"
BOOM! Before Law could finish his question, a flash bomb explodes out of the suite, tear gas bursting the doors open.
"Thatch!" Unten and I exclaimed before I dash into the room. Closing my eyes and using my sense of hearing, I unsheathe my katana and fight off attackers while listening for the Whitebeard Pirate. The reason why he's really here instead of with his crew was because of Teach. While trying to protect the Yami Yami No Mi, the Devil Fruit that the Dark Devil Kurai was sealed in, Thatch was severely wounded enough that he was forced to resign as the Fourth Division Commander. Also it was because of Shimizu underestimating Teach's minions when Thatch's attacker was immune to the powers of the Kan Kan No Mi by wearing Sea Prism on his wrist. But that bounty hunter was there only for the Dark Devil's prison, and me.
Hey Yue, let's clean the air up a little, Unten mentally says. Law keeps having the coughing fits.
That's a good idea, I reply before shouting, "Dekki o hitto!"
"You're not on a ship, kid!" Someone says before charging at me.
"Just like how you're not going to be in this room!" I snap back before crossing my swords and shouting, "Nittoryu: Washi Hikō!" I then swing out my swords to create a shock wave that took the fog like gas out of the suite as well as the masked attackers. Soon the only people that survived the gust of air was Thatch and Law, who were still on the floor. However, when I take a closer look after sheathing my katana, I realized that they were both hit with tranquilizer darts.
"Why would they-- Ow!"I was cut off when something jabs me in the shoulder. After yanking the projectile out of my arm, I start to feel dizzy. That's when I dumbly figure out that it was also a dart that hit Thatch and Law.
"Imaimashī, crazy bastards," were the last words I say before collasping and fall into a deep sleep.
