Chapter 5: Always Nakama Part 1
Yue (Four Days Later)
"Ugh," I groaned, trying to fully wake up. When my vision finally clears up I realized I'm in pajamas, in my room hooked up to a heart monitor and an IV drip. I hope I didn't catch anything that wasn't too serious. But why am I in here and not in the infirmary?
Then just as I sit up in the bed, the door opens to reveal the captain with a medical bag and Bepo holding a tray of food. My stomach began to growl when I caught the scent of the food.
"Well, look who's finally up," Shachi says as he follows Law and Bepo in. Law then takes a chair from my desk and sits down with a expressionless look.
"You can set the tray on the desk Bepo," Law states out as he turns the monitor off. "Then you and Shachi can put the monitor up and go back to your normal duties after telling everyone about Yue-ya now being awake."
"Hai, Captian," Bepo and Shachi replied before doing what they're told. When the door closes, Law then begins to examine me by pressing the stealthoscope to my back. I take deep breaths so he can hear my heartbeat.
"How're you feeling?" he asks as he takes out the blood pressure wrap and puts it around my arm and on top of the scope to hear the pulse.
"Does the terms 'awake and hungry' count in your medical book?" I ask to see a smirk from the doc.
"You still have your humor intact, that's for sure," he chuckles when he gets done checking my pulse.
"Sooo, how long was I out?" I ask after Law gets done with his examination.
"Only for four days," he replied as he unhooks the drip from my arm and throwing the bag away before he goes to get the tray of food, which was beef and broccoli stir fry with two onigiri and a glass of orange juice. He carefully sets it on my lap before taking a seat in the chair again and starts to read a book that he got from the desk.
"Itadakimatsu," I whispered before eating my meal. Hey, even when I was at Hala Island, I'm always polite. Well, almost always.
"Did everything go okay?" I break the ice of silence after I eat a few bites. Law nods and hums a yes without taking his eyes off the page. However, I can tell that he's hiding something.
"What exactly was the dignosis?" I speak again.
"I'll tell you when you get done eating," Law states as he turns the page of the book. But I saw the slight hesitation his tattooed hand did while turning that page.
"How can I do that when I've been done for the past three minutes?" I retorted. Law looks up from the book to see that everything that was food related was completely gone. He then stands up and puts the book back on the desk before going for the tray. But I picked it up, kicked the blankets off, swung my legs over the side of the bed, and stood up.
"Who said you can get out of bed?" Law asks as he tries to take the tray.
"I mentally did since you're procrastinating on telling what I had that kept me knocked out for four days," I replied, spinning around him so that way I'm between him and the door. I quickly opened the door and set the tray in the hall before locking the door and closing it.
"You do realize that I'm the only one that can get out now?" Law smirks while readying his left hand to activate his 'Room'. But with the napkin I slipped in the sleeve of my pj shirt, I grabbed one of my bracelets that was on my dresser and threw it at him. He catches it only for his smirk to disappear and his knees buckling. I quickly turn into my tiger form and pounce on him to the floor.
"You were saying, Law?" I smirk at the captain.
Law
Dammit, I fell for that again, I internally groan as Yue pins me to the floor in her tiger form. The bracelet that she threw at me was made out of Sea Prism, which got me weak the moment I touched it. I should've dodged it instead of catching that cursed thing.
"So are you going tell me what I had four days ago, or do I need to use you as a scratching post?" Yue growls as she unsheathes her claws while putting more pressure on my chest.
"You wouldn't dare," I growled back.
"Then tell me what I had that knocked me out on the deck."
"I'll tell you when you get off me."
"I think you're fine right here under my paw."
"I think you're being stubborn."
"Says someone who's hiding a secret from the crew!"
"Excuse me? Last time I checked, thanks to Penguin everyone knows on what you had!"
"Ohoho, everyone knows? Well, then I'll go ask them to see what you didn't have the spine to tell me about!" The moment she said that, Yue got off of me and headed towards the door.
"Like hell you're not!" I shouted, grabbing her tail to hold her back. She spins around fast enough to put me in between her and the door. I quickly let go when she snarls and tries to bat me away.
"Then what!?" Yue shouts back. "What is it that you're so afraid of telling me?!"
"WHAT MADE YOU BLACK OUT WAS THE GODFORSAKEN AMBER LEAD SYNDROME!" I snapped, only to freeze and realized on what I've done. Yue's eyes widen in shock before transforming back and slumping to the floor. Her head tilts down enough for some of her hair to shadow her eyes. Then a teardrop falls to the floor as Yue starts to cry.
"Please leave," She whispers out as the waterworks keep running.
"Yue, I--"
"Get out!" Yue yells, her head snapping up to reveal true blue eyes filled with anger and confusion. "You wanted to go, so go to wherever you were planning to go!" That's when I had no choice but to obey to her request.
"I really am sorry," I say when I'm out of her room after unlocking the door. "I didn't mean to--"
WHAP! BANG! SLAM! Yue had thrown a pillow that hit my chest hard enough that it sent me staggering and hitting my head on the wall that was across from the door before it got slammed shut.
"What is it that you're so afraid of?!" The question suddenly runs through my mind with Yue's voice asking it. I start to hear footsteps as Penguin approaches.
"Are you alright Captain?" he asks as he helps me up. I put a hand up on the wall to support myself.
"No, I'm not," I admit as my head begins to throb. "Take over and get to an island. I think everyone should take a break for awhile."
"Yes sir," Penguin nods before I make my way towards my quarters. Then the same question that I mentally heard starts to go in a chant. When I enter my room, I lock the door as the chant becomes louder. But it automaticly stops when I punch the wall that was connected to the door and hear a few cracks. I remove my hand from the dent to see the knuckles dislocated. I take a few steps towards my bed as my eyes start to tear up. It's probably due to the concussion that I might have, since I haven't been showing my emotions for eight years.
"Why was I afraid to tell her about her condition?" I whispered as I crumple down with my back towards the foot of my bed as I cradle my injured hand while tears slide down my face. "And if this emotion that I'm feeling is fear, what is it that I'm still afraid of?" But those questions remain unanswered as I begin to sob like a child while now being curled up on the floor.
