Chapter 15: So Many Ds

Yue

"Keeping Yue warm there, Marco?" the blond and I break the hug to see Ace smirking with a giant boar on his back along with Kenji laughing and having a loaf of firewood in each arm.

"It was just a comfort hug," I defended Marco. "I called my crew not too long ago, and I ended up getting both good news and bad news."

"You have a crew?" Ace asks, causing Kenji and Marco to smack his forehead. I gave a did-you-even-listen-to-me-earlier look as a reaction.

"Ace has a disorder called narcolepsy," the Kenji explains after setting the wood down. "He might've fell asleep when you were explaining about your injury."

"That explains a lot," I deadpan at the ravenette who ended up falling asleep. That's when the bear man stealthily leans in by Ace's ear before taking a breath.

"OI! GET THE FIRE STARTED, FLAME BRAIN!" Kenji roars loud enough for Marco and I to slap our hands over our ears. Ace then alarmingly jumps up into the tree with. . . . Flames trailing behind him?

"Before you ask, Ace ate a Logia Devil Fruit, the Mera Mera No Mi," Marco explains. "He has the ability to create and control fire."

"Interesting Logia," was the only thing I could say. "That kind of explains why Kenji also called him Flame Brain."

"Did you really have to do that?!" Ace exclaims while holding his ear that Kenji roared into.

"It's your own fault for that narcolepsy to take over you yoi," Marco bluntly states before waving a hand over the fire that Ace made, making it small enough for the wild boar to be cooked. That's when I take a double look as the flames turn from a red orange to a pretty blue and yellow fire. Kenji starts to laugh when he sees my reaction.

"Hey Marco," Kenji says after calming down. "I think you forgot to tell Yue about your Devil Fruit."

"It's okay, I can see what it is tomorrow," I manage to smile. "Because I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to get hungry enough to eat that boar in five bites."

"Well then, I'll get to cooking on that," Ace sheepishly grins before getting out of the tree and setting up a rotator to put the boar on.

    Ace (Twenty minutes later)

"Oi, oi, slow down yoi," Marco sweat drops at the teen who's eating nonstop. "It's not like it's going anywhere."

"Then you try and go without a meal for three days," Yue growls while trying to take a chunk of meat off with her teeth. All I could do was chuckle at the girl's actions.

"She reminds me too much of Luffy," I murmured to myself. However, Yue's hearing is sharper than I expected as she perks up.

"Luffy?" she asks after swallowing a bite. "As in Monkey D. Luffy?"

"You know him?" I asked in surprise.

"Yeah, I heard about him from Red Haired Shanks," the girl replies. "He even recommended that I go to East Blue to see Luffy when I have free time."

"Sōdesu ka?" I smirked. "Well, can't say much about Shanks, that red headed guy."

"You met Shanks before, haven't you?" Yue smiles. "Because in a way I can tell by that zoned-out look on your face, going through good times you had in the past."

"Yeah, it was before I joined the Whitebeard Pirates," I start a small fireball that was the size of a firefly before letting it dance in my hands. "I was a captain of my own crew when I went to see Shanks and thank him for saving Luffy from a Sea King, even though the price for it was a left arm."

"Huh, so that's how he lost it. I thought it was from combat, but a Sea King can be reasonable," the violet haired teen becomes curious and crawls over to where I was at to watch the small light show I  was putting on.

"How are you even moving around like that when you know you have an injury on your back?" I ask when Yue leans against a stump.

"To be brutally honest, I think I had worse injuries than this gash on my back," she explains, adjusting Marco's jacket that was still on her shoulders. "So the pain's bearable enough to move around with."

"I see," I smile before tossing the fireball into the bonfire. About a minute later the girl falls asleep. Soon it was complete silence besides the popping and crackling of the flames. But eventually Kenji's soft snores confirm what he was doing, along with Marco sleeping in a blanket of leaves and vines with his back to the fire. I was about to fall asleep until I feel a tap on my shoulder from the tiger girl, for she was in a neko mode with a grey blue set of tiger ears, along with a tail long enough to wrap around her waist. However, she was shaking as if something scared her.

"Is it okay to sleep with you?" she asks. "I know I'm sixteen, but I just had a nightmare."

"Come here then," I replied, motioning with a hand for Yue to come closer. When she does and sits down, I adjusted so that her back's leaning against my chest. That's when I feel the brotherly, protective feeling that I had for Luffy when we were still kids.

"So how do you know Luffy?" Yue asks, completely comfortable in the position.

"He's my little brother," I replied, making the teen giggle.

   "What now?" I ask.

"I really don't see you being a Monkey," Yue smiles in between giggles. "Monkey Ace. Heheheh."

"Okay, Luffy and I are adopted brothers," I roll my eyes. "My full name's Portgas D. Ace."

"D?" Yue stops laughing and tips her head back to see my face. "Geez, I wonder how many Ds I'm going to meet."

"How many do you know so far?" I ask.

"Five," Yue replies before looking at the fire. "Monkey D. Luffy, you, Marine Vice Admiral Monkey D. Garp,  Revolutionary Leader Monkey D. Dragon, and me."

"What about your parents? You've had to get your D from them," I added.

"I. . . kind of don't know who I got my D from," the teen sadly replies, pulling the jacket a little tighter. "My mom died after I was barely a year old while my dad died of an illness when I was six."

"Oh. . . Sorry," I look in a random direction. "So, uh, how do you know Garp and Dragon?"

"Weell, I sometimes read the papers about Dragon," Yue leans back a little bit more so that her head's resting on my shoulder. "But for Garp, he kind of took me in after my dad died and taught me how to fight. I was then able to live at my hometown on my own after I turned eleven. Why'd you ask?"

"Garp's my foster grandfather," I mumbled.

"I see," Yue says, snuggling even closer before realizing what she's doing. "Um, am I making you uncomfortable?"

"No, you're not," I warmly smile. "As long as you're comfortable, I don't really mind what you do."

"Oh, okay." That's when Yue decides to push me onto my back, taking my hat and laying it on the stump she was leaning on before lying down on top of me.

Okay, maybe I spoke a little too much, I thought as I feel my face turn a little red from the teen's actions.

"I don't why, but I have a gut feeling that we met somewhere," Yue murmurs with her head now on my chest. "But I can't put my tail on where we could've met."

"Know what, that's the same thing I was thinking," I gaze at the neko's face to study it, especially her eyes. "The moment I laid eyes on you, I could've sworn I met you a long time ago."

"Hmmm," Yue lets out a strange sound that sounded like a purr.  "Thanks for helping me out tonight. Even though you got a boar, you got me to feel better." With that she falls asleep peacefully before I could reply. I just chuckle and rub a hand in between the tiger ears before adjusting enough for me to be on my side facing the fire with Yue sleeping on my arm instead.

"I was right," I whispered out, "You remind too much of Luffy." With those words said, I close my eyes and embrace the clutches of sleep.
