Chapter 14: Saved By a Bear With a Unknown Mark
Third Person
It's been a two days since Yue was forced to be separated from the Heart Pirates by the warlord Kuma. The teen has expected to land somewhere either back in the North Blue, or somewhere in the Grand Line. Meanwhile, Law finally snapped only a day after the incident, going into a temporary coma after fighting an unknown person who had the Devil Fruit ability to have the sixth sense. All the fighter ever did to defeat the Surgeon of Death was summon his traumatic memories of losing his family along with the memory of seeing Yue disappear by Kuma. Now the crew is now praying for not only for their captain to awaken, but also for the sixteen year old to call as she promised. However, little did anyone knows that the Zoan user is going to be saved by three people. And those people happens to be members of the world's strongest pirate crew. . . .
Yue (three days later)
BOOM! I wake up to the sound of my own landing after a long nap. However, besides my head and limbs, I can't move worth a hoot due to the long, numbing gash that possibly goes from my right shoulder to the left hip. Then again, I'm mentally kicking myself for not intercepting Hawkeye's attack with my katana.
"Oh, just my luck," I groan before I try my best to look around. Apparently I'm in some sort of jungle with lush plants and vegetation surrounding me.
Rustle, rustle, rustle
"Who's there?" I called out. "Is someone there?" That's when I start to hear snarling as a group of wolves appear out of nowhere, surrounding me.
"Oh God," I start to get up despite my injuries as I struggle to get away from the wolves. "Someone help! Help!" That's when a big black mass of fur crashes into the clearing in front of me. As it turns out, it was a giant bear, and he wasn't happy at all.
"HEEEELLLLP!" I shouted, covering myself when the bear charges. However, it was only a few seconds later that I hear the wolves yelping out of fear. I snuck a peak to see that the bear was chasing off the wolves. Then it turned towards my direction as it lumbers up towards me. I ducked once more, hoping that my life won't end as bear chow.
"Are you alright?" I freeze at the voice. I peeked out once only to see a guy around my age in the bear's place. He has dark ginger brown hair with gentle onyx eyes. The stranger was also shirtless with some sort of tattoo on his left arm. It was a blue combination of a cross and a sideways crescent moon with the two ends pointing upward.
"Are you. . . a Zoan Devil Fruit user?" I asked. "And besides, it's rude to not give a name."
"Hehehe, sorry about that," the guy rubs his head in a way that reminds me of Shanks. "The name's Kenji. And yeah, I got the Kuma Kuma No Mi: Model Grizzly."
"Grizzly?" I repeated in confusion. "What I saw was a big black bear, not a grizzly."
"That's because instead of a tannish brown color, my bear fur's more of a really dark brown." To prove his point, he goes into his animal form, revealing the dark animal that I saw before. Indeed the bear is a grizzly, but the color of the fur was a very dark shade of brown, just really close on being black.
"That reminds me of my Zoan Devil Fruit," I say with interest as Kenji goes back to human. "I would show you my animal form, but my back's so messed up that it's not even funny."
"How messed up?" Kenji asks. My only reply was flopping to my stomach. The bear man gives out a long whistle as a reaction when he sees the gash.
"Kenjiii!" a voice suddenly shouts.
"Kenji, where the hell are you yoi?!" another calls out.
"I'll be right back, please stay put," Kenji requests as I watch him bolt to the west. I then sit up and carefully lean my left side against a tree I was thankfully close to. A few minutes later, Koji comes back with two other people. One of them had a opened purple jacket that revealed the same cross mark on his chest. He's would've been completely bald if it weren't for a big messy tuft of blond hair being on top of his head. As for the other person, he had black messy hair under an orange hat with a matching elbow guard on his left arm. He was also shirtless with a green backpack hanging from his right shoulder.
"Still alive?" Kenji asks me since I was kind of zoned out to the trio.
"You tell me. I'm just hanging around this tree," I jokingly say. The blond chuckles before walking towards me.
"Name's Marco," he kneels down and holds out a hand for me the shake. "May I ask for yours, yoi?"
"Yue," I replied, giving Marco a firm handshake. "And to answer a question before anyone asks it, yes I'm Kitora Mikami D. Yue."
"Well then, nice to meet ya Yue," Marco smiles before pointing a thumb two towards the other two guys. "The one with the hat is Ace, and I suppose you already met Kenji yoi." When his name is mentioned, Ace does a bow of greeting, making him the most polite person I ever met besides Law.
"Yeah, I would've been wild dog food if it weren't for Kenji," I smiled before flinching in pain when I made the mistake of sitting up straight. That's when Marco goes around me to inspect my back.
"Did you make someone mad or what?" he asks. "Hey Ace, you still have that medical kit yoi?"
"Not exactly," I replied when Ace walks up while rummaging through his bag. He does the same reaction Kenji gave me after he too sees my back.
"Looks like someone gave you a cheap shot with a sword," the ravenette hands the kit Marco. I was beginning to wonder if the guy was shy or not.
"Really? Because I was protecting someone from looking what I am now," I replied before tensing up when a warm hand touches my back with some medicine.
"Is that so? And what was this person doing?" Kenji asks after being quiet. That's when I decided to tell what happened three days ago.
Kenji (twenty minutes later)
"No wonder why you're out here on your own," I replied when Yue finishes her story. While she was talking, Marco managed to get Yue to lay on her stomach so he can finish up tending to her back. After stitching up her back the best he could, Yue sat up to get bandage wraps around her torso to prevent the gash from becoming infected. Ace and I had to respectfully turn around so that we wouldn't see her front.
"It may not be as professional yoi," Marco finishes tying the bandages together. "But it'll last until we get you to some real doctors yoi."
"Thanks, I appreciate it," Yue wearily smiles before a loud rumbling sound was heard.
"What. Was that?" Ace asks. That's Yue turns a little red while rubbing her head with her left hand.
"Weeell, I guess I didn't mention the fact I didn't eat anything for the past three days while flying," she chuckles.
"If that's the case, pardon me." Ace walks towards the north while digging out his Den Den Mushi out.
"He's probably calling the old man where we at yoi," Marco assures me. "We're probably going to spend the night here so Yue can rest for a little bit before heading back. Until then, why don't you go find some wood?"
"Sure thing," I smiled before heading out. "Be right back."
Marco
"Hey Marco," I turn around to see Yue in a state of confusion. "Are you and the other guys members of the Whitebeard Pirates?"
"What gave us away yoi?" I asked, sitting down next to the violet haired teen.
"I'll take that as a yes," she says while holding her arms.
"Here," I take off my jacket and put it on her shoulders. "But you didn't answer, yoi."
"I think it would be the tattoos, I guess," Yue answers. "At first I couldn't put my finger on what mark you guys were under when I saw your mark and Kenji's. That's until Ace took off his bag to reveal Whitebeard's jolly roger."
"I see," I sit down next to the teen. "You're pretty sharp for a teenage girl."
"I've been on the seas since I was fourteen, so I know some things," she replies. "Oh, speaking of which, do you have a Den Den Mushi on you? I need to call my crew to see if they're okay."
"Yeah, right here yoi," I dig out the blue snail out of my jacket's right pocket.
"Thank you so much," Yue gladly takes it before dialing a few numbers. The snail then starts to go off, trying to get a signal to another snail. After a minute, someone picks up the line.
"Hello?" the snail starts to talk with a firm voice.
"I told you to wait for me to call," Yue smiles at the snail.
"YUE!!!" two more voices shouted, the snail showing excitement with tears of joy.
"Where are you?!"
"Are you okay!?"
"It's good to hear you voice again!"
"Shachi, Bepo, Penguin, what are you doing screaming and shouting like that?" someone walks in on the trio. "Can't you see there's work to be done?"
"Tyrell, is that you?" the teen asks. "How are you doing?" The snail then flashes a look of shock before showing relief.
"Never better since you're yammering away," the snail smiles.
"Sounds great," Yue beams. "Hey, is Law busy? I'd love to talk to the captain." That's when the snail starts to look nervous.
"Is something wrong, guys?" Yue asks.
"That's just it, Yue," the person known as Tyrell tries to choose his words wisely. "Just the day after Kuma sent you off, there was some sort of bounty hunter appeared and demanded the captain to turn you over to her. That's when the captain decided to fight this hunter, despite being mentally hurt of you disappearing in front of him. At first the captain was winning, only for the hunter to activate her Devil Fruit, which was. . . . Dang it, what did she say it was again?"
"It was called the Kan Kan No Mi, a Devil Fruit that grants the user to possess the sixth sense," the first voice replies.
"Thanks Shachi," the voice goes back to Tyrell. "Anyway, using her powers, the hunter ended up mentally torturing the captain for information on your whereabouts. Penguin and I tried to help, but the hunter froze us in place. When she finished, all she did to finish the captain was by poking his chest for him to fall over."
"So. . . What you're saying is . . . How bad is he?" Yue starts to shake, but I couldn't tell whether it was from grief or anger.
"I'm so sorry Yue," the snail reveals signs of sadness. "But the hunter tortured Law enough to make him snap and go into a coma. And we have no idea how long it's going to last until he wakes up."
"I see," the teen replies, her voice on the verge of cracking. "Do you guys want to meet back at Water 7? I don't know how long it'll take me, but I will make it there."
"As a matter of fact, we're on our way there to find a mechanic," Shachi cuts in. "Good thing we're thinking alike, right?"
"Right," the teen wipes a tear away from her left eye. "See you guys soon, okay?"
"Stay strong, kiddo," Tyrell smiles before the snail closes its eyes when Yue hangs up. That's when the teen breaks down, tears flowing freely. I then wrap an arm around her for comfort.
"Like your crewmate said, stay strong yoi," I said as the girl leans on me. "Besides, I can bet you that the first person your captain will see would be you when you get there to see him."
"Exactly how many times do I have to thank you guys?" the violet haired teen asks as she hugs me back like a younger sibling.
"As many times as you can yoi," I smiled as we wait for Ace and Kenji to come back.
