Captain Crow's Crew

The waves crash against one another as a ship with blood red flags barrels through them. A crew is scurrying among the deck as a woman barks out their orders. "All hands on deck!" A bell rings out, as a redheaded woman strolls along as she continues to bark out orders, the crew hastily following them. "All together now! Heave away!"

Someone is walking through the crew as he wraps his hand and adjusts his belt. He climbed up a post to the crows nest. "Hold your tongues!" A blonde man with a hooked nose stands beside the women with a spy glass in the crows nest. "Where'd you see it?" He asks, taking out his own spy glass.

"Dead ahead, Jacob." She lowers her spy glass as Jacob raises his. He looks through it but sees nothing. "Huh. Are you sure?" He looks down at her as she nods her head and eagerly looks towards the water. "Aye, a red tail. Biggest I ever saw. Just under the surface."

He closes his spy glass and smirks. "Then today is the day." He zips down a rope onto the deck of the ship.

In the cathead a large man stands with his back facing us. He states off into the distance as Jacob approaches him. "It's the Red Bluster." The man says once Jacob is beside him. "I know it in me bones. See there!" He points towards the flock of birds flying. "Birds follow it."

"We come all this way for a proper fight." Jacob looks in that direction with a determined look. "And we'll get it, me boy." The two face each other as the man continues. "It's been thirty years since that thing took me deadlight." He's referring to his right eye, which is covered with an eye patch. "Now I'll have me revenge." He smirks as Jacob agrees, facing forward again.

A different woman with a peg leg speaks up, "Well, we've passed Rum Pepper Island. It's heading for the Dregmorr Sea." The dark skinned, older woman reaches into her jacket and brings out a bottle. She pops it open and takes a sip.

Jacob leans against the rope and gives her an amused, pointed look. "If we're gonna do battle with the greatest and most terrible thing in the sea, it's best not to wait till after." She holds out the bottle to him, which he takes.

"There might not be an after." He points out, tips towards the captain, then takes a swing.

The ship is rocking back and forth as the crow head looks around. "Haul away, all! Haul, you dogs!" The woman below shouts. The crow head notices a bird and moves to find it. What she sees makes her eyes widen. She leans over to call down to the trio.

"Captain!" They look at her. "It's another hunting ship under attack!"

The captain gets out his spy glass and sees in the far distance a fiery battle taking place. "It's Jim Nicklebone's ship." The two beside him take out their spyglass and look as well.

"It looks like he's found a brickleback." "I'd say it found him." Jacob and the lady say as Jacob urgently looks at the captain. "We have to help him."

The captain turns towards where the Red Bluster was. The lady asks, "What course, Captain?" In the distance in front of him a red tail flips out the water. "We press on."

"What?" Jacob says incredulously, sharing a look with the lady.

"If Jim Nicklebones were half the sea dog he says he is," the captain says as Jacob joins his side, "he wouldn't be in this mess."

"Captain, you know the code." Jacob quietly says with a glance towards the ship. "It binds us to all who come before and all who come after."

It's quiet for a moment before the captain hangs his head. "And even that rum gagger Jim Nicklebones." He turns towards the deck and says to the red headed lady, "Ms.Merino, set a new course."

"Aye, Captain." She nods and turns back to the crew. "Strike the spanker! Clew up for an' main."

As the ship turns around the captain sighs and faces towards the sea again. "Thirty years I've waited." In the distance a roar is heard.

The sails flap in the wind as the captain angrily repeats, "Thirty years! Blast!" He hits his hand on the railing.

The ship continues its new course as Ms.Merino speaks. "Rudder to midship. Come around!" "Don't worry." Jacob says as he places a hand on the captain's shoulder as the other woman looks at the two. "We'll be to the Bluster in no time, Captain." She turns around and orders, "Drive her down, Mr.Crisp!"

With Jim Nicklebones ship, the crew is fighting hard, shouting and the firing of cannons being the only thing heard. A tentacle takes someone away with a scream and gasps. As multiple tentacles surround the ship, someone stumbles away from the railing to Jim Nicklebones. "It's too much, Captain! We're going down!"

He was steering the ship but raised his sword. "This is it, mates! It's been me honor to serve with ya."

Before anything else could happen, a bell toll could be heard. Ms.Merino's voice calls clear. "Haul away!" The red sails stand out against the fog.

"By God, it's the Inevitable!" The captain climbs a rope to get a better view. "Have at it, Black Bird!" Nicklebones says with a laugh as the ship bravely passes their overturned one. The monster roars out at the new enemy.

"Let it know we're here!" The peg legged woman tells the crew. An older man loads a cannon and fires it. As it flies, it releases a bright, red light and whistle. Under the sea, a pupil narrows at the red light as it grunts and releases the ship, finding a new target. It squeals as it follows its new bait away. The Inevitable floats hastily away, leading the monster from the ship.

"We've joined." The Captain says as he, Jacob, and the woman climbs up.

"We have weather gauge." Jacob says looking to the sea. "Shall we draw it upwind?" "Aye," the captain places a hand on Jacobs shoulder, "and cross the T. Hard to port, Mr.Crisp!" He turns and orders the steerer, who does just that. "I'll have her into the wind as high as she'll bear, Ms.Merino!"

Ms.Merino nods and orders the crew. "Furl the main and fore, and ease your headsails, swabbies. Mainsail haul!" No one notices the group of birds flying towards the ship.

Jacob joins the deck and says, "Here we go!" He gives advice to the crew as he goes to his post. "Heads up. Aim low." Other members of the crew shout orders as Jacob gets on the keel with some others. He pushed his hair back and began to order the others. "All right, ya fish killers! We've come all this way from a proper fight. And now, we'll get it!" The crew cheers and goes to their posts. They dangle off the side of the ship from chains, holding their spears out.

A teal horn breaks the water, and the top of a huge body follows suit, birds surrounding it.

The captain and peg leg lady are standing tall, watching the monster. "Nearly there, Captain." "Aye, Sarah." The two are eerily calm.

The monster approaches, and the spear hands are ready. The captain turns to the deck. "Now, to port, Ms.Merino. And cross the T!" "You heard him, ya lubbers! Haul your mizzen! Main and fore!" The crew runs around as he turns back around. "Make it scream, piper!"

A chubby boy takes a deep breath and begins to play the bagpipes to a sea shanty. The ship turns so it's side faces the monster, which is heading straight for them. The crew aims the cannons towards it, murmurs floating through the air. "Here we go!"

"Fire!" Captain Crow calls out, and the cannons do so. Below the cannons the spearmen are holding their ground, keeping a close eye on the beast, Jacob the most. Barely any of the cannons hit, mostly going into the water beside it.

As the beast gets closer, more cannons fire and begin to hit it, but it simply growls and keeps going towards it.

As Jacob keeps his eyes on the beast, he calls out to the captain, who was leaning over to look at him. "We've not discouraged our pretty. Quite the opposite, I'm afraid!" "Not to worry, Jacob." He responds calmly. "Clew up aloft, Ms.Merino."

"Haul away your main and mizzen! Topsail, clew lines!" The crew readies bow and arrows and take aim. "Haul away!"

"Loose!"

The arrows begin to fly towards the beast. They all pierce its shell, making  it growl in aggravation again, ducking below the water.

Jacob stares at it for a moment before he turns towards the crew, hastily climbing up and says, "It's diving!" He hooks up a bouy to his spear and begins to climb a rope ladder. He jumps onto a pole that lets him look down at the beast. The pole sinks down, hanging over the monster, and Jacob lets out a yell as he throws the spear into the monster right before it goes below.

The pole ricochets him back onto the ship with a grunt. He rushes to find his footing, and the monster goes below the ship, making it shake and tilt.

Everyone loses their footing. Someone with a bundle of arrows falls from above, but Jacob catches him. They both look up and Jacob immediately straightens as the arrows fall around them.

They look over and see everyone staring at the bouy. Jacob Narrows his eyes, and places the boy down. "Get under the companionway and don't come out till it's settled." He gently pushes the boy over.

He then joins Captain Crows side, both were practically glaring at the bouy. "Clever fish." The Captain says, turning to Jacob. "It's gone upwind. Stand to. Wait for the word!" The Captain addresses the crew, leaving Jacobs side.

He brings out his spy glass and points it at the bouy. It wasn't moving, but floating.

"You heard the captain! Hands to braces. Stand by, all!" Ms.Merino says.

"No birds." Jacob realizes as he lowers his spy glass. "It's smarter than we think." He turns to the crew. "The line's been severed."

A seagull squawks as it lands on the railing, gaining their attention. The Captain looks up to see more landing on the beams and pillars. He looks down in realisation. "It's below us."

The ship begins to rock, making everyone yell out in shock. The beast jumps out of the water, making the ship tilt onto its side. Everyone is grabbing something to hold on to.

The beast slams its jaw onto the deck, making someone go overboard.

It lodged its jaw into the side of the ship, holding on with a tight grip as its tail swayed to wrap around the front. Its tentacles emerged from the water and began to drag the crew into the water.

As sailors yell out in fear, Captain Crow looks up and narrowly avoids being dragged with them. He takes out his sword and sliced one of the tentacles off. The other swipes the sword out of his hand and grabs him.

Sarah grunts as she slices off a limb herself, shooting one and then stabbing it. She takes out two more guns and shoots again.

Jacob climbs onto a beam. Jacob looks over in concern as he heard a sailor  call out his name in fear. All around him is chaos. People are shouting and fighting for their lives.

Jacob's face hardens in determination as he runs up the beam he was on. He takes out his knife and cuts a rope holding more bouyies. They fall into the water, helping one of the crew down there. Jacob hastily but carefully walks across a rope and uses its momentum to jump up and slice one of the tentacles, saving the crow head.

Hearing more yelling, he sees a spear and kicks it into his hands. He throws it towards the beast, going through to the other side, making it drop the piper. He jumps forward and catches him, with some slight difficulty. They glance at each other before looking down at the beast.

Its slitted eyes glare at him, growling quietly. The piper pipes faintly.

Jacob begins to immediately run back towards the deck, piper still in his arms. He dodges the beast jaw with a leap.

The Captain is stabbing and slicing at the tentacles detaining him when he looks up and sees the monster chasing Jacob, still carrying the piper. He jumps off a beam, falling into a sail for cushion.

He grabs a rope net to heave himself onto the deck, sliding down and grabbing a spear. He dodges a tentacle and runs along the side.

He jumps up, and throws his spear right though two holes in a sail, hitting it right in a soft spot.

The monster let out a pained roar as it falls backwards, letting go of the ship.

Jacob grunts as he harshly lands back on the ship, stopping right beside the cabin boy he had saved. He pants as he confidently tells the boy, "Don't worry, lad. We got it right where we want it." The cabin boy perked up and points behind him. "Jacob, look out!"

Jacob sees a tentacle swiping towards them. He goes blank and puts a simple hand up in an attempt to stop it before he is flung off the ship. He yells as he lands in the water.

Captain Crow is immediately near the rails as he worriedly yells, "Jacob!" He turns to the crew. "Man overboard! Hard to port! Haul them lines, ya swabs!" The ship begins to face the direction where Jacob landed. "Hard to port!" Ms.Merino repeats for them to hear.

Jacob swims up and breaks the surface. He gasps for air and coughs out the water he swallowed, trying to stay above and not get pulled under. He urgently looks around him, looking for the beast. Right below him it rushes towards him, mouth open and ready to swallow him.

Jacob hurriedly swims towards the edge of its mouth, trying not to be eaten. Right as it closes its mouth Jacob is flung out, and harshly falls back in the water.

He once again surfaces, and the monster immediately goes after him, growling loudly. He pushed him under the water. He tries to swim up, but its tentacles keep swiping at him, keeping him under. He swims onto his back and opens his arm, grabbing the tentacle going towards him. It rises into the air, and Jacob yells as he holds on.

He falls onto the head of the beast and runs along its back. He holds onto one of its spikes. The monster roars as it shakes from side to side, trying to get him off as the ship arrives right in front of it.

Captain Crow, now without his hat and jacket, quickly grabs the largest spear and rushes towards the front.

Jacob yells as he struggles to hold on, nearly getting crushed under it. He stabs a knife into it, making it roar and buck him off. He let out a startled, "Whoa!" as he lands feet first into the sea.

Captain Crow aims the spear at the beast as he says, "Time has come, ya devil!" He was running along the side of the ship, running and jumping off of the bowsprit. He yells as he plunges the spear right in the center of the beast.

Its eyes go slitted as it roars out in pain. It once again falls backwards into the sea, closing its eyes, the Captain taking a deep breath as he submerges with it.

Everyone else looks down towards them, whispers floating around.

Under the sea the Captain swims towards the beasts face. He grips onto the largest horn and takes out a saw from his belt. He begins to saw it off the beast, keeping a tight grip on it. As they fall deeper, the beasts eyes open just the slightest.

The horn comes off, and Captain Crow follows after it as it floats up. Before he could reach the surface, however, the beast used the last of its energy to wrap a tendril around his legs, dragging him down with it.

Captain Crow struggles to swim up, getting dragged farther down.

He tries to unwrap it from his leg, but it holds tight. He briefly loses consciousness, last breath of air bubbling up. And it goes dark.
