Where They Went Ch.2
Evan's POV
The coffee shop wasn't too far from the beach, maybe about a block away. As we entered the cafe, the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the delicious scent of frosted pastries filled my nostrils, making me want to crave both items. Delilah must have noticed my craving, because she went to the counter and asked the lady for the freshly made coffee and the mouth-watering pastries, for both of us. The lady handed us two cups of the coffee and a small white box, filled with the pastries. We both sat down at one of the small wooden tables, near the window, as we each grabbed a pastry. We sat in silence, as we took bites from the warm, soft, and delicious pastries and took sips from the hot yet splendid coffee. Who would have known American food was this good?
Delilah's POV
Once I finished my pastry, I decided to be the first person to speak. "So, what have you been doing, since...the incident?", I asked, a little nervous on the incident part. Evan stayed quiet, but he quickly took a sip from his mug and then he spoke. "Well, I went to the university my father went to; Hiedelberg University, for my Doctor's degree. After that, I got a job at one of the most successful hospitals in all of Germany. I soon became a successful surgeon and soon, I became head of the same hospital. So, I guess things are going well. What about you, Delilah?", Evan said, staring at me with those gorgeous green eyes that still made me feel like I was so special, as he took another sip.
Evan's POV
"Well, I went back to the Marines and I made sure that I was the best. After a few months, I soon found myself as a general. So, being one of the leaders of an army was hard work and I always made sure that I would be damn good at it. After the war ended, conflict between the Allies and the Axis seemed to died out, so a lot of us were able to finally relax and go home to our friends and families.", Delilah said, before taking a sip of her coffee. I grabbed Delilah's gloved hand and lightly squeezed it. Delilah softly smiled and squeezed back. "How long are you staying in America, Evan?", Delilah asked. I have thought about it a lot for 10 months. Either I can move here or Delilah can come back to Germany with me. "Well....I'm not even sure Delilah. Perhaps I can stay with you?", I suggested. Delilah quietly shook her head. "No, Evan. You have your whole life back in Germany. Don't let me be the reason that you lose it.", Delilah sadly said. I lightly smiled. "Do you think that opening up people and seeing what's wrong with them, makes me happy? It doesn't. It reminds me too much of my father aka The Butcher. You Delilah, you're the one that makes me happy. You make me feel so happy.", I said, leaning forward and kissing her sweet, soft lips. "That's why I love you so much and I want to be with you, for the rest of my life. I'm sorry if I sound like a sucker for love-", I started, but Delilah leaned forward and kissed me back. She pulled away quickly and took another sip. "It's fine Evan. No one, except for my father, really cared for me, like you do.", Delilah softly whispered. We both held each other's hands, afraid of letting go. After a while of being lost in each other's eyes Delilah took a deep breath. "Evan. You can move in with me. On one condition.", Delilah said, seriousness in her tone. "Anything for my angel.", I simply replied back. "You have to talk to my father about this. Not only that, tell your father, that you aren't going back to Germany. We can't keep this a secret from them, they'll be furious if we did.", Delilah sighed. These were very hard to be on board with, but no matter what, I had to do this. I took Delilah's hand and kissed it. "You have my word, Delilah."
