This was and still is one of the most prevalent conspiracy theories in recent times. The idea here is that Obama wants to confiscate all guns in the U.S. It's as if he's pictured as a Borg who tells us that resistance is futile.

One report infers that Obama wants to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own disability payments. The NICS would be used to detect incompetent disability receiving individuals and confiscate their guns. This effort came about after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting incident in 2012. I don't get it. The person who committed the crime was not receiving any benefits.

Apparently, there have been bills introduced in Congress to confiscate guns. One such was H.R. 226 introduced January 13, 2013. It was called "Support Assault Firearms Elimination and Reduction from our Streets Act". This bill would never make it through Congress dominated by Republicans.

There are plans to confiscate guns from accused domestic abusers in Dallas County, Texas. That would be the last place I would expect such a law, especially since there is a town called 'Shot and Kill' in Texas.

Most gun advocates, including the NRA, point out that Nazi Germany confiscated guns when they came to power. They argue that this is a first step in squashing democracy and freedom. It would also be in violation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution.

The truth be told, most countries have more stringent gun laws than the United States. Even Australia has strong laws concerning gun ownership. Of course, Obama likes Australia's gun laws.

Admittedly, the gun laws in the U.S are weak, mostly because of NRA lobbyists. However, it seems that all that the United States needs to do is toughen the background check laws to include gun shows and swaps where guns can be bought without any background check. Every state has its own laws about guns, and in some cases they are very weak.

I purchased a gun in Pennsylvania back in the 60's and I had to submit my fingerprints and wait for 5 days before I could receive the gun. They ran my prints and license information through the FBI, the Sate Police and the Local Police. When I moved to Ohio I could avoid all of that when I bought a gun.

I can understand why some people would prefer to be able to purchase a gun without the background check because it would make it impossible for the government to know if they owned a gun.

Still, some way must be found to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally disturbed individuals. I don't know how that could be done without some form of control. Many of the controls proposed are bad ideas.

Thanks for reading.
