Where is the Ark of the Covenant?
Where is the Ark of the Covenant?
As you must know, the Ark of the Covenant is a wooden chest clad with gold that contained the stone tablets of the Ten Commandments, Aaron's rod and a pot of manna. This chest was carried around by the Israelites and was believed to have supernatural powers. It is said to have ended up in Solomon's Temple. The Philistines subsequently captured it, and after the Babylonians destroyed the Temple, it disappeared and has been sought ever since.
First, let it be said that the Ark of the Covenant is real. It actually existed and is well documented in the Old Testament. What happened to it is widely speculated. Some have claimed to have already found it. Obviously, its value is priceless.
But, that's not the main reason that people have tried to find it. The Nazi's wanted it because they felt it held supernatural powers that they could use against their enemies. This doesn't make sense because they were persecuting the very descendants of the race of people that created it. This was the main theme of the movie 'Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Arc'.
So, where is it? That's a good question. There are a number of possible locations: It's buried in a cave under Mount Nebo in Jordan; It's being kept secret in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in Axum or Aksum; It's being held by the Lemba people of South Africa; the Templars took it to Chartres Cathedral in France; it's in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome; the leader of the Templars, Ralph de Sudeley, brought it to his estate in Warwickshire England; it's buried in the Hill of Tara in Ireland by British Israelites; it was in Tutankhamen's tomb in Egypt; it's hidden in the old Temple Mount, or it's locked up in a secret government vault.
There are many books that claim to know where the Ark is located, but no one has positive proof.
There are archaeologists who claim they know where it is, but do they? It's probably buried under the original Temple in secret tunnels, but it'll be a holy day in hell when they're allowed to excavate it. This is an obvious location because it would be the logical place to hide it during times of siege.
The indication of this location comes from the Bible. 1 Kings 6:19 tells that the Ark was placed in the Temple. It's also referenced in 1 Kings 8:6-9 and in 2 Chronicles 35:3. It's also referenced in the New Testament in the Letter to the Hebrews; Revelation 11:10; Hebrews 9:4.
Some Roman Catholic writers equate the Ark to the Blessed Virgin Mary. John of the Book of Revelation saw it in heaven. If it is still on Earth, it has to be under the original Temple mount because the Second Temple (built after the Babylon Captivity) stood for 500 years without the Arc.
Some would ask why the Priests didn't put the Ark in the Second Temple. The reason is that Gentile armies dominated Jerusalem. The Temple priests wouldn't want it to fall into Gentile hands so they left it hidden, and then when Rome destroyed the temple at the fall of Jerusalem, it was too late to do anything with it.
That's the theory that I believe in.
