Space science conspiracy theories

These are even more fun than the UFO conspiracies.

Velikovsky Theory is certainly up there with the best. Immanuel Velikovsky, a Russian-Jewish author, published a book called 'Worlds in Collision'. This is a book based on mythology that relies on the Old Testament and other ancient sources to argue that many of the events in the Bible were caused by interactions of other planets in the solar system. He especially liked Venus and Mars. He argued that since Venus rotates backwards it's not a true member of solar system. He proposed many crazy ideas including: many of Earth's catastrophes that happened before mankind are recorded in the memory of mankind; These catastrophes are the result of other planets, specifically Venus and Mars; the configuration of the solar system violates laws of physics; Earth was a satellite of a proto-Saturn; the planet Mercury was involved in the Tower of Babel catastrophe; Jupiter caused the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah; Venus close contacts caused Exodus events. None of these make sense.
Changes in the solar system are causing climate change. This theory says that nothing that is happening on Earth has anything to do with climate change. It's just that the entire solar system is warming up. There is no evidence for this.

NASA is planning on A Lucifer Project. No, it's not the devil. This comes from '2001: Space Odyssey' and the next book in the series dated at '2010'. Lucifer is the name of the star that Jupiter turns into. This event, caused by intelligent aliens, makes the moons of Jupiter habitable. The theory is that NASA is going to do this. First of all, the idea is pure fiction. If Jupiter were turned into a star, it would require much more mass and would only be a red dwarf at best. The added mass in this new star would upset the entire solar system and certainly mess up the orbits of the moons, which are not really large enough to sustain life. The idea of changing Jupiter into a star was a great science fiction idea but not really practical. No offence intended to Arthur C. Clarke.

Another conspiracy theory is not about NASA but rather the European Space Agency. They sent a probe to a comet and actually landed it on its surface. The theorists turned this into a conspiracy in which the Space Agency was trying to retrieve an alien artifact. That would be a neat trick, but as I recall the probe fell over on its side. I don't think it's going anywhere soon.

This one is even crazier. NASA obtained Cassini spacecraft images of Saturn in 2007 that showed a hexagon shaped thing with two concentric circles on Saturn's north pole. This thing is at least the size of four Earth's. Right away theorists said it looked the 'All Seeing Eye' symbol on the back of a dollar bill. They claim this is a sign of the 'New World Order' by either he Masons or the Illuminati. I think that they've been drinking too much wine.

It gets even crazier. We have already colonized Mars and President Obama has been there, that he was teleported to Mars using a 'jump room', whatever the heck that is. He was sent there to forge an alliance with Martians to take over the USA. I think they came up with this crazy idea because they think he's a secret Muslim. I don't understand the logic here.

The HAARP project ruined the Russian Martian probe, Phobos-Grunt. Yes, I never heard of this one either. The HAARP project or High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program was designed to explore the ionosphere. Some theorists said it was meant to control the weather. If it was, it failed miserably.  The Russian spacecraft failed in orbit around Earth and never made it to Mars and the theorists claimed that the US did it because of the cold war revival.

The Illuminati are again trying to force the end time scenario. Here we go again! In this latest version the media is hinting that Lucifer has a plan B and that God has a plan to establish a new kingdom on Earth during September 2015. I guess He missed the date. I think most of these ideas are designed to sell books. There seems to be a slew of these books every so often. Predicting the end time using Jesus and the Bible is a profitable business. Nobody really knows when the end will happen. Just relax and enjoy the ride.
