Project MKUltra
Project MKUltra
Here we go again. The CIA had a secrete project to experiment with mind control. Apparently, this was a real project. I'm not surprised since it was done during the cold war and reflects the ideology represented by 'The Manchurian Candidate' movie.
Evidently, these experiments were done by the secrete branch of the U.S. Army Chemical Corps and Scientific Intelligence Division of the CIA in the early 1950's, and they officially ended in 1973. The main mission of this project was to find a feasible method to control human behavior using chemical, biological, and radiological materials. The research was done at 80 institutions, including institutions of higher learning.
This project progressed out of earlier projects (BLUEBIRD, ARTICHOKE) to determine a method to use mind control for interrogation purposes. One of these projects involved using LSD. I know this was true because it was done with army privates. One of my college buddies told me that he was in a program and was given LSD.
Other substances involved barbiturates, heroin, morphine, mescaline, marijuana, alcohol and other more insidious substances. Hypnosis was also tried.
Apparently more outrageous experiments were conducted in Canada by a Scottish psychiatrist, Donald Cameron. This bad ass conducted experiments that bordered on torture in which test subjects were put into drug-induced comas that lasted for extended periods. He also used shock treatments at higher than normal power levels. Many victims were permanently damaged or died prematurely because of these treatments. This sounds to me like what the Nazi's did.
Some claim that these experiments were a form of brainwashing, which would imply that the government was conducting them for political reasons.
Many countries have experimented with these nefarious ideas. The project discussed here is only one of several secret attempts to mind control people.
The MKUltra project was revealed in 1973 and it precipitated congressional investigation into the domestic practices of the CIA and FBI. A congressional committed headed by Senator Frank Church recommended that these activities be curtailed unless there was written consent from the test subjects. Let's face it; using hallucinogenic drugs to control people is by its very nature disgusting. It hints of Nazi practices, and it's not suitable or justified in a democratic society.
This is not 1984, people!
Thanks for reading.
