Media Propaganda conspiracy
Media Propaganda conspiracy
This is one of my favorite subjects. As you know, the big news networks like AP, Reuters, CNN, Fox and MSNBC are owned by powerful wealthy people who deliver news to their advantage. They twist the facts and try to affect public opinion, especially if it involves national policy on foreign affairs and economic interests. What makes this theory so believable is the fact that most people accept what they see or hear on TV. In other words, they're easily persuaded by a particular political agenda.
Let's look at some of these news agencies. CNN stands for Cable News Network that's owned by Turner Broadcasting. That's Ted Turner, the mogul, who leans to the left politically.
Fox is the Fox News Channel, which was created by Rupert Murdoch, an Australian media mogul who is known to favor right-wing Republican Party agendas. They also have the reputation of favoring blond women reporters.
MSNBC is owned by the NBC Universal News Group and is decidedly progressive and aligned withe the left wing Democratic agenda.
Reuters is an international agency located in London, England. This agency is quite old and its roots can be traced back to 1851. It has been accused of being overly politically correct and also being anti-Israel.
From this, we could say that the media is politically biased. The problem with this is the laws about ownership of media are obscure and don't really prevent interest groups from dominating them by acquiring licenses and agencies that have access to the public airwaves, so to speak. This, in my mind, makes them unreliable as a source of the news and, at the worst, dangerous.
The aspect that I abhor about the news media is that they are dominated by the desire to make money, not to present the news in an unbiased and honest manner. Local TV channels have morphed into something completely alien, and the local news shows have turned to tabloid news. They no longer employ real journalists. Instead, they use 'talking heads' to deliver news that's written by hacks or purchased from agencies who have a particular agenda. They spend more time bantering and joking rather than delivering significant news, and they definitely go out of the way to promote stories involving what could be considered gossip. This reminds of me of Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry', a song that should be played before the start of each and every news broadcast.
That's why I tend to tune in the PBSNews Hour for my news. They still practice professional journalism. However, even they have been accused for being biased. At least they don't engage in tabloid journalism. What I particularly like is how they present two sides of a contentious issue and how they actually go out to the dangerous locales to bring on-the-scene information and video. Many people take issue with how they question officials and important people. They are often accused of being too lenient. I don't necessarily agree with that, but it does seem that way at times.
It appears that none of these news agencies are unbiased and can be trusted. That's sad.
Thanks for reading.
