Is the Bermuda Triangle real?
Believe it or not, there are quite a few conspiracy theories about the Bermuda Triangle, which is a large area that covers the Atlantic Ocean from Bermuda to Miami to Puerto Rico. This is where numerous ships and aircraft have gone missing. It is the most mysterious region on Earth.
There are several theories about the Bermuda Triangle events. The first is that these disappearances are caused by human error. This is probably true in some cases. People who sail into this area without checking for storms are making a big mistake. This region is the site of some very volatile and unpredictable weather, including hurricanes and powerful storms. These often pop up without warning. These violent storms can be dangerous to ships and planes.
The other more possible reason for disasters in this region is compass reading anomalies. This is a problem in this region because of magnetic mineral deposits. Some have attributed this to aliens in UFO's.
The Gulf Stream is particularly strong in the triangle region. It goes at 2.5 meters per second, causing ships to drift off course. There are also deep trenches in this area. Between these two characteristics, debris from ship or aircraft wrecks would be strewn widely and deeply.
Now we get into the paranormal theories. One of them is that the Bermuda Triangle is the source of time warp and that missing ships and planes have been transported somewhere in a different time, possibly the future. This is a science fiction theme.
The lost city of Atlantis is in the middle of the triangle. Unfortunately, no one has discovered it as yet.
The most quoted theory is that aliens in their UFO's took the missing planes and ships. I'm not sure how they would do that. This alien-abduction idea was used in the 'Encounters of the Third Kind' movie. In that case the aliens returned the people that they had abducted.
Pirates took them. This idea is the least favored because it would involve avoiding search planes and ships.
The triangle is the site of strong gravitational fields. Science teams have not verified this idea. It would involve a theoretical Mascon or mass concentration. This is possible, but I am unaware of anything like that in the Bermuda triangle.
Skeptics claim that the Bermuda triangle concept doesn't exist. They say that the triangle is the product of tabloids and inventive writers that have offered wild speculations about the events that have occurred there. That's a valid criticism. However, the anomalies that have occurred there cannot be ignored.
As with most strange areas on Earth, the Bermuda Triangle has captured the public's interest because of excessive attention of the media and novels and movies about it. This makes it difficult to determine what's fact and what's fiction.
Thanks for reading.
